'Routine, Responsible Journalism': New York Times Sends Pieces to US Government for Approval

On 15th June, the New York Times reported that Washington was “stepping up digital incursions into Russia’s electric power grid in a warning to President Vladimir Putin”. The article enraged President Donald Trump, who took to Twitter to attack the outlet, calling the “not true” story “a virtual act of treason by a once great paper”.

“Anything goes with our corrupt news media today. They will do, or say, whatever it takes, with not even the slightest thought of consequence! These are true cowards and without doubt, THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!” he fulminated.

In response, the paper’s public relations account said accusing the press of treason was “dangerous”, and claimed its reporters had “described the article to the government before publication”.

Trump: I Don’t Need Congressional Approval to Attack Iran

In an interview Monday, President Trump told Hill.TV that if he was going to start a war against Iran, he doesn’t need Congressional approval, nor does he even have to inform Congress about the attack.

“I do like keeping them abreast, but I don’t have to do it legally,” Trump insisted. Trump says Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told him he needed Congressional approval, and “I disagree.”

The US Constitution empowers only Congress to declare war, and the War Powers Act also mandates that Congress offer an authorization for the use of military force. No such authorization exists for Iran, something Congressional officials have repeatedly pointed out.

Iran Vows That Path To Diplomacy Closed "Forever" After Latest US Sanctions

Despite the fact that Washington had already sanctioned more than 80% of Iran's economy, so the notion that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior Iranian officials still have any exposure to the Western financial system is a little ridiculous, President Trump delivered on his promise to impose new sanctions on the Supreme leader and other senior Iranian officials on Monday, with Treasury Secretary Mnuchin adding that more sanctions against Foreign Minister Javad Zarif would be handed down later this week.

As The EU Refuses More Migrants, 1000s Trapped In The Balkans Are Overwhelming The System

There are numerous reports that an influx of migrants is overwhelming the already-fragile system in the Balkans. You may think this is not pertinent if you don’t live in Europe. But just like the collapse of Venezuela, the Balkan War, and the collapse of Greece, there are patterns of behavior to which attention should be paid.

Here’s a quick video with a glimpse at the situation occurring right now in Bihac, a city of about 61,000 people in the northwestern corner of Bosnia.

Our army’s bloat of officers is one reason it can’t win wars

Since Korea, our military has proven itself unable to win wars. We cannot win even against foes with little training and less equipment. We cannot win even when the US fields large armies fueled with almost unlimited funds against foes having neither. As we walk on the verge of war with Iran, we must ask “why?” There are a thousand and one answers. But we should look first at our leaders, often the difference between victory and defeat.

Listening to climate doomsters makes our situation worse

James Anderson (Prof of Atmospheric Chemistry at Harvard) gave a speech. It fed the daily doomster news from the Left. "There Is No Time Left" by Robert Hunziker at Counterpunch. Journalist Jeff McMahon, presented it at Forbes as yet another in the endless series of deadlines: "We Have Five Years To Save Ourselves From Climate Change." (see lists of such deadlines going back many years: here, here, here). But, as usual, Grist went into deep clickbait.

Professor Anderson believes that we have only 55 months left to "fix climate change" or we will go extinct. Some of the predictions in his speech rely on the work of other scientists (e.g., more and stronger storms in a warmer world, as predicted by Professor Michael Mann). His doomster prediction has little support from the IPCC’s reports.

Iranian fisherman finds part of downed US spy drone wreckage

An Iranian fisherman from the country's southern Island of Qeshm has found more parts of an American spy drone, which was shot down over the Sea of Oman after intruding into Iranian airspace.

A report by Mehr News Agency on Monday showed photos from Qeshm in the Strait of Hormuz on the neck of the Persian Gulf, showing the local fisherman, Youssef Saffari, with parts of the US spy drone's debris.

No official source has so far confirmed the report and Press TV cannot independently confirm it either.

The images, shared by photographer Ivan Pierre Aguirre, were originally from a protest held at the Tornillo detention center, but, rather than showing the allegedly suffering children or the deplorable conditions, they simply show images of a forlorn future congresswoman, dressed in her best Sunday whites and looking as if her puppy ran away from home.

NATO Tells Russia To Destroy New Missile Or Face Consequences

NATO defense ministers will hold talks on Wednesday over their next move if Russia doesn't destroy a new missile system that could allow for short-notice nuclear attacks throughout Europe, which the United States has said violates the 1987 Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), according to Reuters.

"We call on Russia to take the responsible path, but we have seen no indication that Russia intends to do so," said Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at a news conference, adding "We will need to respond."

While he declined to go into further detail, diplomats have said their defense ministers will consider allowing more flights over Europe by nuclear-capable US warplanes, as well as more military training and the strategic repositioning of US sea-based missiles.

The dispute has deepened a fissure in East-West ties that severely deteriorated after Russia’s seizure of Crimea and its involvement in Syria. -Reuters

Webmaster's Commentary:

Reuters, you pitiful;codswallop-creating intellectually-crippled dolts: your revisionist history of what happened with Crimea, and Syria are falsehoods of such immense magnitude, that I barely know where to start. So let's do this YET AGAIN!!

In light of your seeming to still collectively be suffering from an almost pathological case of SMD, (Selective Memory Disorder), let's set the way-back machine to 2014. I promise to try to use small words, which hopefully won't confuse you too terribly.

In 2014, Ukraine suffered from an alleged"color revolution" (translation: the US and Western Europe, were fomenting unrest yet again), and the duly, and legally elected President of Ukraine, President Yanukovich, was officially "thrown under the proverbial bus", and - in an election which was more crooked than is a dog's hind leg - "anointed" Poroshenko (the Chocolate King, remember?!?) as his successor because he was nominally more western-centric than was his successor.

Apparently, Reuters, it has escaped your US collective government-centric gaze, that not only did Victoria Nuland share to a private audience, and was videoed, about the US Government, having spent $5 billion dollars of taxpayers' money to subvert Ukraine Victoria Nuland's Admits Washington Has Spent $5 Billion to "Subvert Ukraine", but none other than President Obama actually confessed, on a CNN interview with Fareed Zakaria, that he was a part of a group which made such subversion possible. Washington Was Behind Ukraine Coup: Obama admits that US “Brokered a Deal” in Support of “Regime Change”

$5 billion dollars is not chump change, even in these spectacularly inflationary times. And one has to wonder, with Poroshenko having lost this years' election, if anyone of those accountable for this fiasco, have had a tiny bit of "Buyer's remorse" about getting this guy elected.

What Crimea did, which is at the heart of the UN charter, regarding peaceful self determination, when they understood that there was no viable, citizen-chosen government in Kiev, was two things; they had a free and fair referendum, asking the people of Crimea, post-coup, if they wanted to stay with Ukraine, or petition Russia to become a member of the Russian Federation; by an overwhelming majority, Crimeans voted to petition the Russian Federation to become a member of Russia, and the Russian Federation accepted their petition.

As you probably do not know this, as history was never your strong suite, collectively, but Crimea was a part of Russia, before it was annexed to Ukraine by Kruschev in 1954: The 1954 transfer of Crimea to Russia by Kruschev

Now, let's take a look at Syria, shall we?!?

Seeing just how "brilliantly" the American regime changes/occupations of Iraq; Afghanistan; and Libya were going, Russia's President Putin believed that he had a responsibility to make sure that the duly elected president of Syria, Bashar Al-Assad, had the opportunity to stay in office, and with the help of the Russian Military, Al-Assad's forces were able able to wipe out most of the US and Israeli-funded and trained jihadis there, leaving only a few small pockets of resistance.

"What, What,?!?" you say, in a gasp of faux surprise?!?, HOW CAN THIS BE?!? AREN'T THE JIHADISTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST, SUPPOSED TO BE THE US'S MOST HORRIBLE THREAT EVER?!? YES, REUTERS, YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY.

Inside Israel’s Secret Program to Back Syrian Rebels Fighters were armed and paid to keep Iranian-linked forces away from Israel’s border. How many Iranian linked forces were, and actually are, still in Syria, remains to be seen.

America Created Al-Qaeda and the Isis Terror Group

Reuters, can you please JUST STOP LYING, because I am going to embarrass the hell out of you with the facts, every damned time I can, if you continue to do this; and it has become pathological on your part, recently!!

Please count on it!!

No More ‘Great White Hopes’: Study Reports Women and Men of Color Are Just as Electable as White Men

It’s a word that trails women and people of color like a stray dog: “electability”—a word that’s become a catch-all code for nebulous concerns that certain candidates just don’t (or can’t) inspire voters to turn out at the polls as much as others. But, as a new study suggests, if those concerns are tethered to a candidate’s race or gender, they ought not to be.

China isn’t the only country with a draconian “social credit score” system — there’s one quite a bit like it operating in the U.S. Except that it’s being run by American businesses, not the government. Stunned Anderson Cooper Cuts CNN Interview After Trump Accuser Calls Rape "Sexy"

Less than 48 hours after columnist (and soon to be book author) E. Jean Carroll accused (in a New York Magazine article) Donald Trump of raping her in a dressing room in high-end department store, Bergdorf Goodman, in the 1990's, CNN had gleefully invited the accuser on to discuss the details of this horrific act from her past.

Things did not go according to plan for CNN... and we suspect for Ms. Carroll's book sales.

While President Trump has vehemently denied the rape took place, a sensitive Anderson Cooper welcomed the woman on to his CNN show... then things went 'full awkward'.

Cooper asked Carroll, "you don't feel like a victim?" after she suggested that was the case, and things went downhill fast.

The seemingly unstable Carroll replied, "I was not flung to the floor."

Cooper retorted, "I think most people think of rape as a violent assault..."

To which Carrol replied, stunning the CNN anchor, "I think most people think of rape as being sexy..."

State Dept Looks to Create Anti-Iran Coalition

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says he intends to build a global coalition against Iran, starting Sunday with his visit to Saudi Arabia. This appears to be the latest push since the collapse of an attempt to build an “Arab NATO,” though Pompeo intends to recruit nations from Europe and Asia as well.

While Pompeo emphasized the new coalition being anti-Iran, other State Department officials described it as primarily about maritime security. They said it would be intended to patrol and protect shipping lanes.

This reflects the conflicting interests of Pompeo and President Trump. Pompeo is very keen to get something started against Iran, and remains among the main advocates for that. Trump, on the other hand, says he wants other nations to protect their own ships instead of expecting the US to do it, this isn’t necessarily an Iran-centric issue.

Russia Warns US Buildup Risks Repeat of Cuban Missile Crisis

The US withdrawal from the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty is raising concerns in Russia that it would lead to the deployment of land-based US missiles along their borders in Eastern Europe. Russian officials warn this could create a crisis comparable to the 1962 Cuban missile crisis.

This is not a totally unfounded concern. The INF treaty’s dissolution, and the expansion of NATO all the way to Russia’s border indeed would create such a possibility. Russian officials have made clear they would respond to try to maintain deterrence, and prevent NATO having an overwhelming nuclear advantage. Though there are no formal plans for such deployments by NATO announced publicly yet, the Eastern European members are overwhelmingly hostile to Russia, and would endorse such deployments.

No War With Iran, for Now – but Mike Pompeo and John Bolton Still Really, Really Want One

After a week of high drama in which Secretary of State Mike Pompeo indicated the Trump administration was preparing for war with Iran, President Trump sought to end the war crisis, at least for now, by declining to retaliate against Iran over what he called “very minor” attacks.

Trump canceled a retaliatory strike on Iran in the early hours on Friday, at least in part because he was not certain that the drone or a Navy spy plane following it had not strayed into Iran’s airspace in Strait of Hormuz, according to the New York Times.

But the evident determination of Pompeo and National Security Adviser John Bolton to get Trump to carry out a military strike against Iran – combined with Trump’s “maximum pressure” strategy, which has already prompted Iranian pushback – mean that such crises are bound to continue until either war comes or U.S. policy fundamentally changes.

No evidence Russia influenced Brexit via Facebook, says Clegg

There is “absolutely no evidence” that outside forces such as Russia used Facebook to target users and influence Britain’s vote to leave the European Union, the world’s biggest social network said on Monday.

Nick Clegg, head of global affairs at Facebook and Britain’s former deputy prime minister, said the network had run two full analyses of its data held in the run up to the 2016 referendum and found no evidence of a significant attempt by outside forces to influence the outcome.

Opponents of Brexit have repeatedly questioned whether the Kremlin played a role in the vote by promoting stories online on issues such as immigration in a bid to sway opinion. Britain has said it found no evidence that Russia interfered in the vote and Moscow has repeatedly denied even trying.

Blain: "We're Nearing The Moment When Everyone Tries To Exit The Bond Market At The Same Time - It Will Be 2007 Again"

These are thin and dangerous markets… We are marking time ahead of Friday’s G20 meeting. Then it will be summer. By then we will be anxious about Europe, Iran or whatever the next thing is. Traders have too much to worry about and too little to do. The geopolitical strains, fretting what Trump might tweet next (yesterday’s all-out assault on the Fed and calling it a “stubborn child” was sublime), or this week’s trade meeting at the G20 – which I expect will seriously under-deliver on market hopes. Remember – Hope is never a Strategy!

I do think we need to think a little more about the Trump effect on stability. The US ain’t doing so bad around 2.5% growth (3.1% Q1). Only an idiot would mistake a soar-away stock market with economic stability. A Dow a couple of “thousands points higher” would be massively overbought, and just a higher number to correct, and if “the Fed doesn’t know what its doing”.. well who does? Trump is noise. Get over it.
