State AGs Unveil Sweeping Antitrust Probe Against Google On Steps Of The Supreme Court

By Tyler Durden

In the latest legal push that could ultimately result in the break-up of one of the world’s largest tech firms, a bipartisan group of more than 40 state attorneys general, led by Texas’s Ken Paxton, will unveil a sweeping antitrust investigation against Google parent, Alphabet Inc.

The antitrust investigation, which was previewed late last week in a leak to the Wall Street Journal, aims to hold Alphabet accountable for the extreme concentration in the US technology industry. Specifically, the AG’s case will focus on Google’s influence in search and the digital advertising market, and whether the Silicon Valley giant’s overarching influence harms rivals and consumers...

How to Make Health Care Unaffordable and Inaccessible

By Bradley Thomas

Whether it’s Medicare for All or some other variant of a single-payer plan, the leading 2020 Democratic presidential candidates are in agreement that more government control will make health care more affordable and accessible.

The presumption behind these plans is that there is currently too much freedom in the health care industry, and only more state intervention will reign in costs and make health care more accessible to more people.

But the opposite is true...

Most Stable Linux Distros: 5 versions of Linux We Recommend

At the very beginning, I would like to mention why the term ‘Stable’ comes in relation to Linux OS or distro. Because there are thousands of Linux OS variations as per the user’s requirements. Some are very fundamental like Debian, some is a fork of a base distro like Ubuntu, Arch Linux and there are many fork-of-a-fork-of-a-fork like Linux Mint.

So all the variations do not comply in terms of well support and documentation from the Linux community. So Here we are going to list down the best stable Linux distros which are well known, well supported, have good repositories, are regularly updated, are user-friendly and will remain around us quite a time.

Zao’s Deepfake Face-swapping App Shows Uploading Your Photos is Riskier Than Ever

By Alexandros Antoniou, University of Essex

The latest photo app craze can make you look like a movie star. Zao uses artificial intelligence to replace the faces of characters in film or TV clips with images of anyone whose photo you upload to the app.

The effect is startlingly realistic and shows just how far this sort of “deepfake” technology has come. But it also highlights how great the risks have become of making your photos available online where anyone can use or abuse them – and the limitation of the law in dealing with this issue...

New Oregon Law Orders Review of Research on Health Effects from Cell Phone and WiFi Radiation Exposure

By B.N. Frank

Decades ago research determined that exposure to cell phone and wireless WiFi radiation is harmful. Since then more research has confirmed the same thing. This is being taken seriously outside of the U.S. already.

Unfortunately, current American guidelines, legislation, limits, and testing are VERY outdated and don’t apply to how most people use or are exposed to current wireless radiation emitting technology...

Drug Warriors Ignore Basic Facts to Push the Vaping Scare

By Ross Marchand

August was not a good month for harm reduction advocates striving to save the lives of millions of smokers. Many media outlets have been spreading fear and panic among Americans trying to quit smoking by raising hysteria about a mysterious lung ailment popping up across the United States, claiming it is a deadly side-effect of using e-cigarettes.

Is Vaping Dangerous?

This could not be further from the truth. By all indications, the vapes causing breathing problems are black market devices tainted with impure, illicit substances...

Plan to Use Fitbit and “Smart” Home Devices to Stop Mass Shootings — But Might This Instigate More?

By B.N. Frank

In addition to the concept of surveillance for mental health and gun control, other concerns revolve around the health research of wearables and smart devices.

Research has also already determined that exposure to sources of wireless radiation disrupts the blood brain barrier which can cause it to leak and kill brain cells.  Research has also determined that this can reduce impulse control and increase the potential for homicide and violence.  So doesn’t making people who already have mental health issues wear wireless radiation emitting trackers and requiring them to install wireless radiation emitting “Smart” listening devices and sensors in their homes seems like a recipe for more disasters? ...

“There are many unknowns, and no certainties,” Dr. Orient concludes. “But the physician must strive to do no harm, not even in the guise of serving the collective good.”

Research Says Cell Phone Radiation Prematurely Ages Skin and 5G Irritates Eyes, Skin, Sweat Ducts, and More

By B.N. Frank

It’s bad enough that cell phones have been found to be 10X dirtier than a toilet seat. Last year Reader’s Digest reported “Warning, Cell Phone Addicts: Your Phone Is Aging Your Skin.” The article focused on exposure to Blue Light or High-Energy Visible Light (HEV) as the culprit but it’s not the only one.

Exposure to Electromagnetic Radiation (aka Electrosmog) can age us, too, and more than just skin deep. Dr. Magda Havas refers to this as “Rapid Aging Syndrome.”...

Up to 70 Energy Businesses and Advocacy Groups Spend Millions Lobbying In Massachusetts

By B.N. Frank

Lobbying isn’t illegal but most would agree that it has certainly created a lot of problems – mostly at the public’s expense, financially and otherwise (think Opioid Crisis).

Most wouldn’t be surprised to learn that telecoms spend big bucks on lobbying. Many may not realize that energy companies are heavily targeted by lobbyists too. I Was a Physician at a Federally Qualified Health Center. Here’s Why I No Longer Believe Government Health Care Can Work

And so, just a few weeks after taking my Family Medicine board exam, I headed off to my new job at a well-established health clinic in rural America, where my education on the role of government in health care began...

I couldn’t leave. You see, I had signed a contract with the government. As a National Health Service Corps scholarship recipient, I had agreed to work at a health shortage site for four years. In exchange, the program paid my medical school tuition. The penalty for breaking the contract was harsh: repay three times the tuition amount immediately or go to jail.

I was trapped.

ARE GENE EDITED COWS OR HUMANS WHAT WE REALLY NEED?

SOURCE: F. WILLIAM ENGDAHL
Scientists using the “second generation” of genetic manipulation technology have used gene-editing to alter the DNA of breed of cattle so that they supposedly do not grow horns. At around the same time another group of scientists claim to have injected human cells into monkeys to create chimeras, as in the ancient Greek myths of beings part lion, part snake. Earlier this year a group of Chinese researchers claimed to have deliberately gene-edited monkey clones with a mental disturbance. What few realize is that all this is taking place almost entirely without any serious health and safety regulation. Is this what mankind really needs at this juncture?

Gene-edited hornless cows

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please remember; " Big Agriculture" is one of the most generous campaign contributors around, and have done a good job of convincing the Congress critters they control, that people don't really need to know if the food they are eating is GMO, or not; but the cautionary info from this research, suggests that these recombinent genes are going to have some very negative effects, particularly down the road.

We need to demand both strict protocols for this research, and to not allow it to get into the American food chain, unvetted.

GOOGLE AND MOZILLA BLOCK KAZAKHSTAN’S BROWSER SPYING TOOL

SOURCE: MOTHERBOARD | VICE

On Wednesday, Google and Mozilla announced they would block an encryption certificate the Kazakhstan government has forced citizens to download. The certificate allows authorities to intercept Facebook, Twitter, Google, and other passwords of the 18 million people in the country. But now with two of the main browser makers pushing back, that surveillance will be more difficult for the government to carry out.

“We will never tolerate any attempt, by any organization—government or otherwise—to compromise Chrome users’ data. We have implemented protections from this specific issue, and will always take action to secure our users around the world," Parisa Tabriz, senior engineering director for Chrome, said in a statement.
