CONGRESS MEMBERS URGE TRUMP TO MEDDLE IN HUNGARY'S ELECTIONS

One of the loudest voices screaming "Russia is meddling in our democracy!" has been Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH). Last year she signed a letter to the Speaker of the House demanding that Homeland Security and the FBI brief Congress on "the Russian attack on 21 states' voting systems" (a charge since disproven). The letter complained that "when a sovereign nation attempts to meddle in our elections, it is an attack on our country."

To be fair, it is hard to disagree with Rep. Kaptur and her colleagues on that final point. No one wants a foreign country meddling in their elections, hacking their ballot machines, funding opposition parties, manipulating the media in favor of one side, etc.

But here's the rub: Rep. Kaptur has just sent a letter to the State Department demanding that the United States government commit all of the above violations against NATO partner country Hungary!

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable, but perfectly predictable from Congressional Representatives.

What amazes me, is how do these people manage to get through life so absolutely logic-free?!?

According to a bill brought forward in local parliament, Danes could face a jail term if they voice dissent over the government's position on Russia.

The proposal, which is said to be meant to "strengthen efforts against illegal influence from foreign intelligence services," would introduce criminal penalties for perceived "meddling" in public debates and attempts to influence decision-making. Crimes committed during an election campaign would entail a maximum prison term of 12 years.

With Saudi Arabia and Egypt—the outside—brought onside with the promise of continued military aid despite their crimes against humanity and violations of international law and the Palestinians weakened by being silenced, economically crushed and stripped of any friends to help them, the United States and Israel are now free to attempt to impose a peace plan on the Palestinians.

ECB Hands Italy An Ultimatum: 'Obey EU Budget Rules Or We Won't Save You'

With the Washington Post stepping up to put a floor under US stocks Thursday afternoon by reporting that President Trump would meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at next month's G-20 summit (while the headline soothed the market, it doesn't change the fact that, as with everything involving the Trump administration, this too remains subject to change), investors have apparently overlooked the latest ominous headlines out of Italy. To wit, Reuters reported that the ECB won't come to Italy's rescue if its government or banks run out of cash unless the Italian government first secures a bailout from the European Union. Of course, this would almost certainly require that the populist coalition end its ongoing game of fiscal chicken with Brussels and abandon its dreams of lowering the retirement age and extending a basic income to the Italian people - policies that would effectively secure a political future for M5S and the League.

STARVING UKRAINE ARMY LOOTING AND PILLAGING DONBASS LOCALS

INTRIGUE SURROUNDS THE WAR, WITH STARVING UKRAINE ARMY LOOTING AND PILLAGING DONBASS LOCALS

A starving and demoralized Ukrainian military, in the part of Donbass under their control, are pillaging grocery stores and taking food from the local population. This is alarming for a number of reasons beyond the obvious fact of crimes being committed against a civilian population. In this Ukrainian army, we are expected to believe that their stocks and force projection has been growing.

It is through this mechanism that Poroshenko seems to want to push his drive for war, in order to secure the election, by turning out the support of the Gacilian and Ukropian populace. But at the same time, we are seeing some Kievan oligarchs talk of peace and love and rejoining with the Donbass not through war, but through dialogue, restoration of pensions, and many things which surely are compatible with Yulia Tymoshenko’s electoral strategy

Israel MK called ‘war-monger’ and ‘devil’ at EU Parliament

Chairman of Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee at the Israeli Knesset Avi Dichter was described on Monday as a “warmonger” and “war criminal” at the EU Parliament, international and Israeli news agencies reported.

Dichter was there, Israeli media said, to speak about the two Israeli Jewish settlers who were killed in the occupied West Bank last week. However, he encountered a “severe wave of criticism”, Israeli media said.

Portuguese MEP Ana Gomes said that the president had been “honoured” to invite Dichter to address the EU Parliament, but she was “disgusted”.

“As head of the Shin Bet [Israel Security Agency], he masterminded the policy of targeted killings, in which many died in extrajudicial killings. He also initiated the racist nation-state bill, which I think makes Palestinian citizens of Arab origin second class citizens,” Gomes said.

Conservative journalist’s young children threatened with rape and death – Swedish media ignore it

Joakim Lamotte, a Swedish journalist who is known for his research into migrant crime, is being threatened with his life and the rape of his wife and young children.

As we’ve reported before, people call Lamotte and tell him that he should be slaughtered, that his wife should be slaughtered and that they are going to f*ck his entire family.

In one weekend the conservative journalist received over 40 calls of that kind and as a result he explained why he was inactive for some time on Facebook.

But in politically correct Sweden the case isn’t even news. Imagine what would happen if a leftist politician or migrant family received these threats.

EU Finally Stands Up To US ‘Bullying’ Over Iran Sanctions

History may one day rule this was the fateful geopolitical moment when the European Union clinched its PhD on foreign policy. Last week, EU foreign policy head Federica Mogherini and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, announced at the UN a “special purpose vehicle” (SPV) to deal with the Trump administration’s sanctions on Iran after the US unilaterally pulled out of the JCPOA, also known as the Iran nuclear deal.

Mogherini crucially emphasized, “in practical terms, this will mean that EU member states will set up a legal entity to facilitate legitimate financial transactions with Iran and this will allow European companies to continue to trade with Iran in accordance with European Union law and could be open to other partners in the world.”

The SPV, which according to Mogherini “is aimed at keeping trade with Tehran flowing while the US sanctions are in place,” could be in effect before the second stage of US sanctions begin in early November.

Iran to seal oil deal with EU before US bans return

Iran says it is working on an agreement to sell oil to Europe in face of returning US sanctions that ban purchases of oil from the country.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told reporters in New York that the Islamic Republic was close to a deal with Europe over oil sales.

Zarif said this was part of Iran’s efforts to break efforts by the administration of US President Donald Trump to cut off the country’s revenues.

“This is for us to sell our oil and get the proceeds,” he was quoted as saying by US media. The Iranian minister further emphasized that under UN resolutions passed when the 2015 nuclear deal was signed with Tehran, countries would have the legal right to trade with the Islamic Republic.

US could use Navy for ‘blockade’ to hamper Russian energy exports – Interior Secretary

US could use its Navy to prevent Russia’s potential energy supplies to the Middle East, Internal Secretary Ryan Zinke said, Washington Examiner reports. The blockade would actually mean an “act of war,” Russian Senator fired back.

Zinke alleged that Russia’s engagement in Syria – notably, where it is operating at the invitation of the legitimate government – is a pretext to explore new energy markets.

"I believe the reason they are in the Middle East is they want to broker energy just like they do in eastern Europe, the southern belly of Europe,” he has reportedly said.

Iranian FM: Agreement to Sell Oil to EU Close, Despite US Threats

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif announced over the weekend that Iran and the European Union are very close to finalizing negotiations on a major oil trading deal. Zarif said there was growing enthusiasm for the deal, which if completed would be the most overt rejection of US sanctions and threats.

Last week, the European Union unveiled a plan to open a closing house that would allow trade with Iran to bypass US banking sanctions. This plan was centered on the idea of an oil trade, with oil purchasers giving money to the clearing house, which would pass it on to other EU companies to pay them for goods and services provided to Iran.

EU officials seem to have become increasingly interested in the oil deal since the plan was announced, as it now seems that EU leadership is committed to resisting US sanctions, and has set up a means to do so.

Poland Buys Gold For First Time In 20 years

Central banks have emerged as some of the biggest buyers of gold this year, with purchases hitting their highest level in six years, according to analysts at Macquarie.

Central banks have bought a total of 264 tonnes of gold this year, “by far the most at this stage of the year of any period in the last six years,” the bank said.

While gold buying has been dominated by Russia, Turkey and Kazakhstan, Poland also bought gold for the first time since 1998, Macquarie said.

“The only unambiguously positive sector for gold at the moment is central banks,” the bank said.

Central banks may be buying gold to diversify their reserves away from the US dollar, the bank said.

Bannon Declares ‘War Rooms’ to Win European Elections

Bannon Declares ‘War Rooms’ to Win European Elections – and That’s Not Meddling?

One trait of imperial decadence is untrammeled hubris. Given the increasingly arrant arrogance on display by United States’ officials, public figures and news media we can safely conclude that this empire is accelerating into decadence.

A recent spectacular example comes with separate visits to Europe by US defense secretary James Mattis and Steve Bannon, the former aide to President Trump.

Bannon was addressing a rightwing forum in Italy at the weekend in which he declared that he would be devoting “80 per cent” of his time to help anti-European Union parties win seats in the next European parliamentary elections due in May 2019.

Bannon said he was setting up a coordinating committee, called “The Movement”, in Brussels, from where his political project would direct “war rooms” across Europe to ensure that anti-EU and anti-immigrant parties would succeed in gaining up to a third of the total seats in the 27-nation member bloc’s parliamentary elections. In short, a declaration of political warfare. Unapologetic. Brazen. Arrogant.

Pompeo Slams EU Plan to Circumvent US Sanctions on Iran

On Monday night, EU officials unveiled a planned clearing house that would allow international companies, including all of Europe, Russia, and China, to continue trading with Iran while circumventing US banking sanctions.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said it was “deeply disappointing” to hear that the plan existed, and that he considers it an attempt to bolster Iran’s “ranking as the number one state sponsor of terror,” and counterproductive to US goals.

Not complying with US goals is very much the point. The US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, and has been trying to impose trading sanctions since then. All other nations remain in the nuclear deal, and are trying to save the deal by letting trade continue to flow.

Europe Unveils “Special Purpose Vehicle” With Russia and China To Bypass SWIFT, Jeopardizing Dollar’s Reserve Status

In the latest sign of the growing divide between Washington and its allies, the European Union’s foreign policy chief announced Monday that the bloc was creating a new payment mechanism to allow countries to transact with Iran while avoiding U.S. sanctions.

Called the “special purpose vehicle” (SPV), this mechanism would aim to “assist and reassure economic operators pursuing legitimate business with Iran,” according to a joint statement released by the remaining members of the Iran nuclear deal — France, Britain, Germany, Russia and China.

“This will mean that EU member states will set up a legal entity to facilitate legitimate financial transactions with Iran and this will allow European companies to continue to trade with Iran in accordance with European Union law and could be open to other partners in the world,” Federica Mogherini, the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs, told the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

Europe Unveils “Special Purpose Vehicle” To Bypass SWIFT, Jeopardizing Dollar’s Reserve Status

In a stunning vote of “no confidence” in the US monopoly over global payment infrastructure, one month ago Germany’s foreign minister Heiko Maas called for the creation of a new payments system independent of the US that would allow Brussels to be independent in its financial operations from Washington and as a means of rescuing the nuclear deal between Iran and the west.

Writing in the German daily Handelsblatt, Maas said “Europe should not allow the US to act over our heads and at our expense. For that reason it’s essential that we strengthen European autonomy by establishing payment channels that are independent of the US, creating a European Monetary Fund and building up an independent Swift system,” he wrote.
