US Military Has Taken Control Of Europe — Wimmer

“We note to our sorrow the fact that our national parliaments and our national governments are no longer in a position to make an independent assessment of other parts of the world, or to ask ourselves whether our policies towards other countries can be upheld or have to be changed, because we follow the lines from Washington and sometimes from Paris and London in a very bad way.”

Leading Israel lobby group sees massive rise in budget

A leading pro-Israel group in Brussels has seen its budget increase fivefold over the past few years.

The European Jewish Association has become increasingly prominent in efforts to counter the Palestinian call for boycott, divestment and sanctions. One of its campaign priorities is to convince political parties that they should issue policy statements rejecting the BDS movement as anti-Semitic.

The association has a massive war chest.

The latest annual budget that it declared came to $8.5 million. That is five times the $1.7 million per year figure previously stated by the association.

I asked Menachem Margolin, head of the European Jewish Association, to explain the increase. I asked him, too, how much his group receives from the Israeli government.

Margolin replied that “since we can’t really consider you as a great supporter” of his organization, “we won’t answer your questions and won’t provide you [with] any information” about it.

Warsaw won’t bow to ‘lies & racist insults,’ Polish PM says amid simmering row with Israel

After an Israeli minister claimed that Poles harbor anti-Semitism from childhood, a Polish PM fired back, saying his country, where thousands risked their lives to help Jews during WWII, will not accept “racist insults.”
Amid a simmering political row between Warsaw and Tel Aviv, Mateusz Morawiecki told Haaretz that Poland “will no longer give in to a pressure to accept lies, misleading phrases, let alone racist insults.”

Donald Trump Uses Poland to Divide Europe and Undermine EU’s Policy towards Iran

Political analyst Adriel Kasonta believes hosting the Warsaw summit would cause further deterioration of Poland’s relations with the European Union, which attempts to avoid the break with Tehran and works on a mechanism to bypass US sanctions against Iran.
Adriel Kasonta, in an interview with FNA, said that the right-wing ruling party in Poland instead of establishing an independent foreign policy, is strongly influenced by “the xenophobic warmongering Trump administration”.

Mr. Kasonta believes that “there are many Polish politicians that condemn the shameful behavior of the current government” in hosting an anti-Iran summit which according to the analyst does not serve the interests of Poland or that of the European Union.

Adriel Kasonta is a London-based lawyer, political analyst and entrepreneur of Polish-Jewish and Tanzanian descent.>>>

Anti-Semitism rising sharply across Europe, latest figures show

Anti-Semitism is rising sharply across Europe, experts have said, as France reported a 74 per cent increase in the number of offences against Jews last year and Germany said the number of violent anti-Semitic attacks had surged by more than 60 per cent. The figures confirm the results of three recent Europe-wide surveys showing Jewish people feel at greater risk, and are experiencing markedly more aggression, amid a generalised increase in racist hate speech and violence in a significantly coarser, more polarised political environment ... The French president, Emmanuel Macron, denounced the trend as "unacceptable", telling ministers that anti-Semitism in France was "a repudiation of the Republic and its values". Petra Pau, an MP for Germany's Die Linke party, said more and more people felt free to "deny the Holocaust and engage in anti-Semitic agitation".

Putin Threatens US Soil If Missiles Deployed in Europe

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during his annual presidential address to the legislature Wednesday, criticized the United States for ignoring the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty by deploying missile launchers in Romania and Poland.

"First it started developing and using intermediate-range missiles it deceitfully called targets for missile defenses. Then it began to deploy the Mk-41 launchers in Europe, capable of using intermediate range cruise missiles Tomahawk for combat purposes," he said.

"By doing all this the United States blatantly ignored the provisions contained in articles 4 and 6 of the INF Treaty."

Russia will respond to any U.S. deployment of short or intermediate-range nuclear weapons in Europe by targeting not only the countries where they are stationed but the United States itself, Putin warned.

Brexit LIVE: Chaos as UK to be blocked from MAJOR EU trade deals in event of no-deal

THE EU’s trade agreements with Japan, Algeria and Turkey will not automatically still apply to the UK in the event of a no-deal Brexit, the Government has confirmed.

The revelation was made in the latest document released by Whitehall as the UK gears up its preparations to leave the Brussels trade bloc without a deal. The Government said it was “in the process of transitioning existing trade agreements of which the UK participates as a member of the European Union”. It is hoped a total of around 40 existing trade deals will roll over after March 29 in the event the Brexit deadlock is unable to be broken.

Europe to Sign Own 'Suicide Pact' If Hosts New US Missiles – German Politician

Europe’s possible agreement to host US intermediate and shorter-range ballistic missiles will be tantamount to signing a "suicide pact" in light of Russia’s declared resolve to target these potential security threats, Helga Zepp-LaRouche, the leader of Germany’s Civil Rights Movement Solidarity party, told Sputnik.

"If Europe were to accept the installation of new US missiles on its territory in this strategic environment, it would sign a suicide pact," Zepp-LaRouche said.

Ukraine President Signs Constitutional Amendment On NATO, EU Membership

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a constitutional amendment committing the country to becoming a member of NATO and the European Union.

Addressing parliament on February 19, Poroshenko said he saw securing Ukraine's membership in NATO and the EU as his "strategic mission."

Ukraine should "submit a request for EU membership and receive a NATO membership action plan no later than 2023," the president told the Verkhovna Rada.

However, he acknowledged that his country needs to come a "long way" to meet the criteria of joining both institutions.

European Council President Donald Tusk attended the signing of the constitutional amendment in the parliament building.

Russia Will Respond To ANY U.S. Weapons Deployment In Europe

Russian president Vladimir Putin has vowed to use force against the United States should the U.S. deploy any missile weapons in Europe. Putin says the threat is necessary to protect Russia because U.S. weapons will be much closer to being able to destroy his country.

In what could be called Putin’s toughest remarks yet on a potential new arms race, the Russian president said Moscow was not seeking confrontation and would not take the first step to deploy missiles in response to Washington’s decision this month to quit a landmark Cold War-era arms control treaty. But Putin would take action against the U.S. if the decision is made to deploy weapons in Europe.

Russia Will Target US With New Hypersonic Weapons If It Deploys Missiles To Europe

In his first major public address since the US formally pulled out of the INF arms-control treaty, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on Wednesday that Russia would point its new arsenal of hypersonic missiles - which can purportedly bypass NATO's ABM systems - directly at the US if it dares to reintroduce ground-based intermediate-range missiles to Europe.

According to Fox, Putin threatened to deploy Russia’s new Zircon missiles, which Putin said can fly at nine times the speed of sound and carry a range of 620 miles and are part of the country's drive to upgrade its defensive capabilities against an increasingly aggressive US and NATO.

Putin cautions if threatened, Russia could target US missiles ‘hosts’ and America as well

Russia will consider tit-for-tat and asymmetric measures if the United States deploys intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles to Europe, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his annual State of the Nation address to the Federal Assembly on Wednesday.

"I’ve already said and I want to repeat - and this is vital - to repeat this specifically, that Russia is not planning to be the first to deploy these missiles to Europe. If they are indeed manufactured and sent to the European continent, and the US does have these plans, anyway, we haven’t heard other statements, this will sharply deteriorate international security and create serious threats to Russia since it takes up to 10-12 minutes for certain types of these missiles to fly to Moscow. This is a very serious danger to us. In this case, we will be forced, and I want to stress this, we will be forced to envisage tit-for-tat and asymmetric measures," Putin said.

Putin: Russia to Take Steps if US Deploys Its Short, Medium Range Missiles in EU

Swedish-Hungarian War of Words Escalates as Minister Called 'Sick Creature'

Sweden and Hungary have been embroiled in a bitter quarrel after a Swedish cabinet minister made a controversial comparison between Budapest's pro-family policy and that of Nazi Germany.

The Hungarian ambassador to Sweden has been summoned to a meeting with representatives of the Foreign Ministry as part of the escalating verbal exchange of fire between the two nations.

The war of words broke out when Swedish Social Insurance Minister Annika Strandhäll compared Hungary's new pro-family policy, which includes complete tax exemption for mothers of four children, to Nazi Germany, claiming it "reeked of the 1930s". In turn, Hungarian Vice Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen called the Swedish minister a "poor sick creature" in a talk show on Echo TV.

Hungarian 'Conspiracy Theory' Over Soros, Juncker 'Beggars Belief' - EU

The new campaign of the Hungarian government targeting the European Commission's President Jean-Claude Juncker and Brussels' migration policy promotes falsehoods, the European Commission said Tuesday.

"The Juncker commission made the commitment to fight disinformation and fake news. And this case is no exception. The Hungarian government's campaign beggars belief. It is shocking that such a ludicrous conspiracy theory has reached the mainstream to the extent it has… Hungarians deserve facts, not fictions," Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas told a press conference.

The spokesman stressed that the European Union was not undermining national border protection.

Putin: If mid-range missiles deployed in Europe, Russia will station arms to strike decision centers

If the US deploys intermediate-range missiles in Europe, Moscow will respond by stationing weapons aimed not only against missiles themselves, but also at command and control centers, from which a launch order would come.

The warning came from President Vladimir Putin, who announced Russia’s planned actions after the US withdraws from the INF Treaty – a Cold War-era agreement between Washington and Moscow which banned both sides form having ground-based cruise and ballistic missiles and developing relevant technology.

The US is set to unilaterally withdraw from the treaty in six months, which opens the possibility of once again deploying these missiles in Europe. Russia would see that as a major threat and respond with its own deployments, Putin said.

The Worst Possible Version of the EU Copyright Directive Has Sparked a German Uprising

By Cory Doctorow

Last week’s publication of the final draft of the new EU Copyright Directive baffled and infuriated almost everyone, including the massive entertainment companies that lobbied for it in the first place; the artists’ groups who endorsed it only to have their interests stripped out of the final document; and the millions and millions of Europeans who had publicly called on lawmakers to fix grave deficiencies in the earlier drafts, only to find these deficiencies made even worse. The epicenter of the uprising is Germany, which is only fitting, given that German MEP Axel Voss is almost singlehandedly responsible for poisoning the Directive...

Huge statue that depicts Donald Trump as a Warhammer warrior with Twitter engraved on his sword and Vladimir Putin is unveiled in Italy

A huge statue of President Trump dressed as a Warhammer warrior with Twitter birds on his sword and the head of Vladimir Putin on his shoulder has been unveiled in Italy.

The European Union will blacklist eight more Russians over a stand-off with Ukraine in the Azov Sea, diplomatic sources said on Friday.

Trump demands Europe 'take back' and lock up 800 ISIS fighters captured in Syria or he warns the US will be forced to release the terrorists to 'permeate Europe'

President Trump wants America's European allies to put more than 800 ISIS fighters captured in Syria on trial.

'The United States is asking Britain, France, Germany and other European allies to take back over 800 ISIS fighters that we captured in Syria and put them on trial,' the president tweeted late Saturday.

'The Caliphate is ready to fall. The alternative is not a good one in that we will be forced to release them.'

Trump continued: 'The U.S. does not want to watch as these ISIS fighters permeate Europe, which is where they are expected to go.

US mobilizes allies to blame Russia for dismantling INF Treaty - Lavrov

Washington takes unscrupulous steps mobilizing its allies to put the blame for dismantling the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) on Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters in Munich on Saturday.

"Back in October, US officials told us that President [Donald] Trump announced a withdrawal from the treaty. It is not an invitation for dialogue but a final decision," Lavrov said.

"Afterwards, it has not been very scrupulous to mobilize allies in order to blame us for dismantling this crucial agreement," he said.

Lavrov said that Moscow has no doubts that Washington warned NATO officials against attending a briefing organized by the Russian Foreign and Defense Ministries on the 9M729 cruise missile.

Hate Fest In Warsaw

Warsaw, Poland is not a fun place to visit in darkest February, but that is where the US just staged an anti-Iranian jamboree of 60 client states that brought derision and scorn from Europeans and much of the Mideast.

Venezuelan congressional chief and self-appointed interim president, Juan Guaido, must be acknowledged as such by the European Union, according to the US vice president.

US Vice President Mike Pence, speaking on Saturday at the Munich Security Conference, declared that the EU must recognize Guaido as the official — although temporary — leader of the beleaguered South American nation, until a new official presidential election can be held, according to Reuters.

Hungary Schools Pompeo Over 'Huge Hypocrisy' on Russia: 'We're Sick and Tired

The top Hungarian diplomat's remarks came during his joint press conference with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who, in particular, warned Hungary not to let Russian President Vladimir Putin "drive wedges between friends" in NATO.

Speaking at a joint news conference with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Budapest on Monday, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto specifically pointed out what he described as Western countries' hypocritical stance toward Moscow.

"As for Russia – and I have told the State Secretary about this – there is enormous hypocrisy and political correctness in the European political arena," Szijjarto said.

He recalled that neither Hungarian nor central European energy companies are partnering with the Russian corporation Gazprom in the Nord Stream 2 project.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I didn't see any coverage of this story in the US papers, if they were, in fact, reporting on Pompeo's trips to both Budapest and Warsaw, which both appeared to have come off the flipping rails, and combusted, then imploded, then fell into the swamp!

Apparently, his and Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu's anti-Iran twitter rant did not win Pompeo any bouquets in Warsaw;

Ahead of Peace meeting in Warsaw, Netanyahu threatens war with Iran. and him prattling on about Hungary's not being a great "Western NATO Partner" against Russia, did not earn him anything positive in Budapest, either.

In the Biblical book of Isaiah, there is a phrase: Isaiah 1:18 King James Version (KJV) Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord".

Right now, to the international community, Mike Pompeo is behaving like some kind of bad-dream, Neocon-leftover clown whose only answer to everything which annoys the US, is, of course, more wars.

His polar opposite, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov is always the responsible, peace-seeking, reason-seeking adult in the room, and conducts himself with intelligence, clarity, and dignity.

Would that the US government had someone like this, carefully negotiating and listening, not blustering, seeking consensus, not further dividing, and asking, politely, for a specific outcome, rather than demanding it.

I am afraid that the only thing which would bring this about, would most probably be, a complete, utter, military loss of this country to several others, who collectively vow that the Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika will never be allowed to create a carnage as intense as this war creates.

Hungary tells UK Jewish group to 'mind its own business' over antisemitism

A Hungarian government minister has accused a senior representative of British Jews of politically-motivated lying, telling her to “mind your own business” following a meeting in which she raised concerns about antisemitism.

The secretary of state, Vince Szalay-Bobrovniczky, wrote to Marie van der Zyl, the president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, this week to take issue with the board’s account of a meeting between the pair.

The board said the meeting, which took place on 8 February, was “an important opportunity to raise a number of the [BOD’s] long-standing concerns directly with the Hungarian government, including the use of antisemitic tropes and … moves to downplay the role of historical Hungarian leaders in supporting the Holocaust.”

Other issues raised by the board included the Hungarian government’s attitude to Muslims and migrants, and relations between it and Jewish communities in the country.

Where A No-Deal Brexit Would Hit Hardest

In recent weeks, the chances of a dreaded no-deal Brexit occurring have increased exponentially ahead of the deadline on March 29th.

A new study has looked into that scenario's potential impact on jobs across the world. Statista's Niall McCarthy notes that the analysis was carried out by the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH), focusing on 56 industrial sectors across 43 countries while assuming a 25 percent drop in EU exports to the UK in the event of a hard Brexit.

It found that Germany could lose the most jobs with around 103,000 threatened if the UK crashes out of the EU with no deal.

Sweden’s minister compared Hungary’s new family assistance measures to Nazism

Sweden’s minister for social affairs compared Hungary’s new family assistance measures to Nazism. Foreign Minister Szijjarto hit back by criticising the Scandinavian country’s migration policy.

In a tweet, Annika Strandhall, the Swedish minister for social affairs, said that Hungary’s “alarming” policies were“reeking with the 1930’s”. She suggested the Hungarian prime minister, who seeks to promote the birth of “more true Hungarian” babies was a “right-wing populist trying to obscure the consequences of those policies to the independence women have earned”.

As Hungarian daily Magyar Hirlap reported, Strandhall approvingly shared an article by Aftonbladet. Another Swedish outlet, Sydsvenskan, also published an article with similar opinions. According to journalist Sofia Nerbrand, the pro-family action plan is offensive to women and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban should be ashamed after saying that he wants more Hungarian children instead of immigrants.

German Ex-Air Force General: 'US Betrayed European Security'

A former head of NATO’s Military Committee has slammed the US move against the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) as “extremely dangerous” for Europe. This comes after Washington had suspended its obligations under the agreement that ended the arms race between the East and West back in the 1980s.

Former head of the NATO Military Committee and retired Air Force general Harald Kujat has sharply criticised the US for terminating the INF Treaty calling the move “a betrayal of the security of the European allies" in an interview with the Bavarian broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk.

According to the retired commander, the withdrawal from the treaty that ended the nuclear arms race back in 1987 means that the US is saying goodbye to responsibilities to its European allies. This move could be extremely dangerous for Europe, Kujat stated.

Spanish Prime Minister Calls General Elections For 28 April

The call for elections comes just two days after the Spanish parliament rejected a draft 2019 budget proposed by the government of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

"Between doing nothing and continuing without the budget and calling on Spaniards to have their say, I choose the second. Spain needs to keep advancing, progressing with tolerance, respect, moderation and common sense", Sanchez stated in an address to the nation. "I have proposed to dissolve parliament and call elections for April 28th".

May’s Dutch ‘Ally’: ‘Weak’ UK ‘Too Small’ to Be World Player After Brexit

The Netherlands’ Prime Minister Mark Rutte has said that the UK is “too small” to be a world player after Brexit.

Prime Minister Rutte, often sold as Prime Minister Theresa May’s ‘closest ally’ out of all European leaders, made the comments in an interview with Spanish newspaper El País on Wednesday and claimed the UK was on a “precipice” of a “devastating” no-deal Brexit.

Asked whether he thought the European Union would be “weakened” by the United Kingdom’s exit, Mr Rutte replied, “It is the United Kingdom that will be weakened by Brexit.

“It is already weakening,” the establishment centre-right politician continued, “it is a waning country compared to two or three years ago.

“It is going to become an economy of intermediate size somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. It is neither the U.S. nor the EU.

“It is too small to appear on the world stage on its own.”

BREXIT BETRAYAL: How British public was 'DECEIVED into voting YES in 1975 referendum'

BRITAIN voted by a margin of two-to-one to to stay in the European Economic Community, what is now the EU, in a 1975 referendum – but British citizens were deceived into voting “Yes” as politicians told them they were merely deciding on trading arrangements and not whether they wanted to be part of a "bossy superstate”, a book claims.

With armoured vehicles and snipers, US seeks to deter Russia

With the Russian border little more than an hour away, the desolate grey sky burst open with an explosion of fire and a plume of smoke. If the scene evoked the Cold War, it was intentional.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo trekked Wednesday to the Polish town of Orzysz to witness NATO live-fire exercises in an unmistakable sign to Warsaw that the United States has its eye on Russia.

Pompeo walked through drizzling rain with senior Polish officials over frozen soil and patches of snow to a reviewing stand as several hundred troops stood at attention.

PENCE SAYS EU MUST WITHDRAW FROM IRAN DEAL & STOP TRYING TO ‘BREAK UP’ SANCTIONS ON ‘VILE REGIME’

US Vice-President Mike Pence has demanded that Europe withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal and lashed out at the EU’s efforts to evade Washington’s sanctions on Tehran.

Speaking at a security conference in Warsaw, Pence chastised Europe for leading an “effort to create mechanisms to break up our sanctions” against Iran, and complained that European countries had not been “cooperative” since the Trump administration withdrew from the Iran deal last year.

“The time has come for our European partners to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal” and join with the US to give the Iranian people and the world “peace, security and freedom,” he said.

Pence said the EU’s newly created Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), conceived as a way to continue facilitating trade between the EU and Iran, was an “ill-advised step” which would only “strengthen Iran, weaken the EU, and create still more distance between Europe and the United States.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, Vice-President Pence is absolutely tone-deaf to how he is coming across to European heads of state, with such unhinged, and uncharacteristically hubristic threats against US European allies.

The countries in Europe want to make money, and need Iran's oil to do so.

So, what are he and President Trump going to do, if they don't get their way?!? Bomb Europe?!? Bomb Iran?!?

This meeting in Poland, was doomed to be an epic fail even before it began; Iran's president, Hassan Rouhani, was absolutely correct in his prediction of this happening precisely the way he said it would.

And President Trump, it is very unfortunate ... that your only understanding of both Iran's history, and future trajectory, comes exclusively from the Butcher of Gaza, Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu.

And I have a video you should absolutely see, before you decide on how hard you are going to militarily shatter this country, because your economic sanctions are going utterly nowhere, as evidenced by the Polish meeting in Warsaw: Don't Tell Mother I'm In Iran

This little trip, done by a very charming Jewish videographer, was to see just how the Jewish community was faring in Iran, and the good news is that the resounding answer was, "Quite Well!" He was shown a beautiful synagogue, and the Majlis Building (their Parliament), where minority religions are guaranteed a seat at the national table, which includes Christians, Jews, and the Bahai.

Mr. President, Netanyahu could fly to Tehran, and make peace within a day's worth of work; but he absolutely will not, as his "vision" of Iran is just as flawed as is humanly possible. It's about controlling the oil and regime change here, to create something more to Israel's and the US's liking.

But Mr. President, there is a reality that you and Netanyahu are going to have to face; this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Iranian Revolution. People are living better than they ever did under the Shah, and feel they have a future, both as individuals, and as a nation.

You were utterly mistaken that Europe would just collectively" drop dead", in its dealings with Iran, and this "conference" was proof positive that they wouldn't.

I think it is high time for you and Prime Minister Netanyahu to collectively dust off that word neither of you like to hear or use frequently, and that word is...(drum roll, please....) NEGOTIATIONS. Because if the threats and sanctions are not working, because they are totally unrealistic for our European allies, what else do you have to fall back on; an invasion, which will almost surely bring Russia to Iran's defense?!?

Downing Street Insists No-Deal Remains a Brexit Option, Despite Claims

The government was on damage control duty Wednesday after a senior civil servant was overheard speaking loudly in a Brussels bar saying Brexit could be delayed, the latest in a series of government figures to do so.

The Prime Minister told Parliament Wednesday that members should not take “what someone said to someone else as overheard by someone else, in a bar” as gospel after her chief advisor on Europe Oliver ‘Olly’ Robbins was heard by a British journalist talking about the future of Brexit in a hotel bar in Brussels.

Theresa May continued to say: “It is very clear the government’s position is the same. We triggered Article 50 (the process by which the UK leaves the EU)… that had a two-year time limit, that ends on the 29 March… We want to leave with a deal, and that’s what we are working for”, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Verhofstadt on a Roll, Calls Italian President ‘Puppet’ of Populists

Guy Verhofstadt has called Italy’s President Giuseppe Conte a “puppet” of the populist deputy prime ministers and said the country was suffering from “political degeneration.”

The remarks came during a heated exchange in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, on Tuesday after President Conte, an independent, gave a speech where he said that the EU had “lost contact” with Europe’s people and demanded Brussels come to a permanent solution to the migrant crisis, according to Politico.

Leftist and progressive MEPs launched attacks on Conte, with socialist grouping leader Udo Bullmann saying that Italy was heading “into political and economic isolation.”

EU Ignoring Mideast Summit Shows Brussels Anger Over US Stance on Iran – Report

The two-day gathering, which kicked off in Warsaw on Wednesday, was announced last month by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who described it as a platform for focusing on the "important element of making sure that Iran is not a destabilising influence".

Key European powers' limited participation in a high-profile US summit on the Middle East in Warsaw reflects their "growing anger over unilateral US policymaking on Iran and Syria", according to Patrick Wintour, The Guardian's diplomatic editor. The gathering began earlier on Wednesday and is due to wrap up on Thursday.

In an article titled "European powers to present cool front at Warsaw summit", Wintour recalled that British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt will leave the event early, while France is sending a civil servant and Germany only bothered its junior foreign minister with the summit.

Powerful US influence drove EU to slap new sanctions on Russia, Lavrov says

The anti-Russian sanctions of the European Union in light of the situation in the Kerch Strait are being taken under Washington’s powerful pressure, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday, commenting on reports of possible new sanctions of the EU and the US against Russia.

"We said long ago that we do not discuss sanctions with anyone. We want to improve our economy and trade with normal Western partners so that not to depend on anybody’s whims - in this case the whims of those who did not keep their word and did not make the opposition carry out their agreements with [former Ukrainian] President [Viktor] Yanukovich," the minister noted.

"We are also dealing with the people who introduced sanctions over the Crimeans’ expression of will and over the events evolving in the region in general, in particular in eastern Ukraine."

Italy to Explore ‘Bilateral Ties’ for WTO Brexit over Fear of Losing Trade

Italy’s populist, Eurosceptic government is examining potential bilateral arrangements with the UK in the event of a no-deal Brexit to safeguard against potential economic damage.

The UK is Italy’s third largest food products market, after Germany and the United States, accounting for €23 billion (£20bn/$26bn) annually — a bilateral surplus of €10 billion (£8.8bn/$11.3bn).

The country’s coalition government of the right-populist League and anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S) is worried that the European Commission’s inflexible attitude to Brexit will come at a cost of EU member state Italy, reports The Telegraph, with Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte telling his Brexit Task Force to examine the impact a no-deal will have on trade, ports, and customs.

Soldiers of Odin Declare Hunt for Rapists, Paedophiles Amid Finland Sex Attacks

The vigilantes' recent video, in which they claimed Finland to be overrun by "sex tourists" has arrived amidst a grooming gang scandal which has implicated immigrants and asylum-seekers from the Middle East.

The Finnish police and the National Prosecutor General's Office are investigating whether the new Soldiers of Odin video, in which they declare a hunt for rapists and paedophiles, constitutes hate speech and instigation to violence, the Finnish daily newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet reported.

In the video, which is provided with English and Arabic subtitles, the group claims that it has made false profiles in social media, posing as young girls. With the help of the profiles, the group seeks to reveal men in search of sexual contact with young girls on the web.

The alliance has no plans to deploy new ground-based systems with nuclear weapons in Europe, even following the termination of the INF Treaty, NATO's Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller said in an interview with the German news outlet Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
