Iranian Warships Arrive Near Yemen

A fleet of Iranian warships arrived near the southern coast of Yemen on Wednesday in a move likely to add greater tension in a developing U.S.-Iranian standoff in the region, according Iranian military leaders.

Just days after the United States announced it would send its own warships to Yemen in order to prevent Iran from smuggling weapons to terror forces fighting there, a flotilla of Iranian destroyers docked in the same area.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yes, I can see the warships featured in the image on the left hand side of the article, and the date of the photo is 7 April.

But are these the same ships which have actually arrived near Yemen, or are they actually cargo ships, bringing humanitarian aid which we are NOT seeing in this image, and were these warships actually going to somewhere else rather than to Yemen?!?

The Iranian military and civilian leadership may be many things, but stupid is definitely not one of them.

I seriously doubt that they are out for a confrontation of either American or Saudi forces; that does not mean, however, that the US and Saudi governments are not salivating at the possibility of ginning up a false flag to be blamed on Iran, and throw the region, and the world, into further turmoil.

U.S.: Warships near Yemen create 'options' for dealing with Iranian vessels

He noted that the nine ships in the Iranian convoy were cargo ships, but he declined to specify what they were carrying beyond "containers." International officials are concerned that Iran could surreptitiously attempt to transfer weaponry to the Houthis.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Finally, we get a photo of the Iranian "warships!"

And as expected, they are cargo ships, most likely carrying humanitarian aid.

Putin Undercuts Obama Iran Ploy

Once more Vladimir Putin and his team have managed to undercut Washington’s geopolitical strategy, this time regarding the secret bilateral US negotiations with Iran outside the G5+1 talks that included Russia. What Russia has done, with dazzling speed, is to defuse what could have been a devastating US move to turn Iran from an ally of Russia into a bitter adversary. Were that to happen it would deal a devastating blow to Russia’s resistance to the Washington dictates.

Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif Coming to New York

Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif is scheduled to come to New York to address the five-yearly review conference of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) that will be held from April 27th to May 22.

During the daily foreign ministry press briefing in Tehran, the ministry's Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham confirmed Zarif's trip to New York and added that, "given the presence of Iranian diplomats as well as other members of the P5+1, there may be talks on the nuclear negotiations on the sideline."

Former Mossad Chief: Israel Should Not Meddle In US-Iran Talks

Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, ex-Mossad Director Efraim Halevy summed up the current chilly relationship between the United States and Israel with a joke.

"When we had problems with the United States, people in Israel jokingly said we should go to war with the United States," Halevy said. "And the problem would be not what would happen if we would lose the war, but what happens if we win the war?"

Halevy, speaking on a conference call sponsored by the Israel Policy Forum, said that the old line shed light on the Israeli government's current opposition to the Obama administration's ongoing negotiations with Iran over the country's nuclear program.

"That of course highlights the somewhat ridiculous situation we might be in if an Israeli effort to derail the entire process would succeed," the former intelligence chief said.

Iran and the six international negotiators have coordinated provisions of the final document on Tehran's nuclear program, a Western diplomatic source taking part in negotiations told TASS.

The source also said a regular round of talks between Iran and the six international negotiators on Iran’s nuclear program (P5+1) may be held already next week in New York.

"Experts are highly likely to meet next week in the United States to continue work on the text of a comprehensive agreement," the source said. "Political directors may join them."

He said the issue will be specified in Vienna within the next few days.

Obama calls on Iran to help resolve crisis in Yemen

'We've indicated to the Iranians that they need to be part of the solution, and not part of the problem,' Obama said in an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday night.

'What we need to do is bring all the parties together and find a political arrangement. It is not solved by having another proxy war in Yemen,' he stated, according to Press TV.

The US president added 'that we can settle down the situation in Yemen.'

Time to Wake up to some Realities on the Iran Deal

Too many cooks spoil the broth, and that appears to be precisely what the Senate had in mind.

Evidently Obama has concluded that a veto-proof majority in both Houses stood behind the Foreign Relations Committee bill, and reluctantly conceded. But that wrests control of the process out of the hands of the Administration. The Iran deal may have died this afternoon.

To make sense of the events that have led to the current negotiations over Iran’s so-called nuclear ambitions, certain elemental realities should be highlighted:

Israel: We Can Target Russian-Made Weapons

Infuriated by Moscow's decision last week to revive a long-shelved S-300 missile deal to Tehran, officials here reiterated Israel's right to target those batteries or any other high-end Russian arms transferred to regional terrorist organizations via Iran or Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Go ahead Israel; try to bomb an anti-air missile system!

Moscow says S-300 supplies to Iran will force those willing to attack it to ‘think twice’

However, according to the minister, neither Moscow, nor Tehran need a Russian-Iranian military alliance.
"We have received no [such] proposals from the Iranian side. This is unrealistic and unnecessary," Lavrov said.
According to him, Russia, Iran, as well as India and China are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). "SCO members and observers actively interact within the framework of this antiterrorist structure, at regular military exercises, which are primarily of antiterrorist nature or are aimed at emergency response preparation," said the Russian foreign minister. "This is quite enough for promoting these ideas," Lavrov said. "As for the attitude towards Russia in Iran, I think the people fairly assess our interaction."

Iranian officials began Tuesday hopeful a ceasefire would bring an end to the relentless air campaign Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies have conducted in Yemen for nearly a month now. In the following hours Saudi Arabia announced on television that Operation Decisive Storm was over, that “all the goals had been met” and declared the beginning of a new operation: “Restoring Hope.” In its statement, the kingdom said the new operation would have more of a political focus, would spend time dealing with helping civilians and counter terrorism.

Iranian support for Yemen's Houthis goes back years

If the U.S. ships intercept the Iranian convoy, they may find it is carrying humanitarian supplies to Yemen to relieve a populace facing massive shortages, Schenker said. Iran for years has provided humanitarian and military assistance to Shiite militias in Iraq and Lebanon, and in the past it has provided similar assistance to Sunni militias fighting Israel in the Gaza Strip.

"There is the possibility of a humanitarian crisis of immense proportions," he said. "Nobody wants to go into Yemen to do this kind of work. But one thing we've learned over the past few years is that the Iranians always stand by their friends."

Webmaster's Commentary:

I did a Google search for the Iranian "warships" on their way to Yemen and all Google showed were photos of the US warships heading for a confrontation. From this I conclude that the Iranian ships are not warships but cargo ships full of humanitarian aid, but Google doesn't think you need to know that.

US Navy Confirms Aircraft Carrier, Warships To Intercept Iranian Weapons Shipments In Yemeni Waters

The 'proxy' war is escalating very rapidly. As AP reports, Navy officials confirm that the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is headed to Yemeni waters to intercept an Iranian weapons shipments. Just as we warned 10 days ago, the probability of a major escalation over the latest proxy Middle Eastern civil war escalated substantially when Iran parked two warships off the Yemeni coast.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is only an assumption that the Iranian ships contain weapons. Given that Iran made no effort to conceal the sailing, I would not be surprised to find out it is actually humanitarian aid as 50% of the people of Yemen are now starving due to the US/Saudi war to re-impose US puppet rule. If the US sinks the Iranian ships and nothing but food parcels are seen floating in the wreckage, it will be as huge an embarrassment to the US as when the USS Vincennes shot down the Iranian Airbus.

IDF Censor Seeks Possible Phantom Leaker

Haaretz’s managing editor, Aluf Benn, published a series of articles (this is the main one) about an ill-fated Israel-Iran oil venture, the Eilat-Ashkelon Pipeline Company (EAPC), that began in 1968 and ended in 1979, just after the Iranian Revolution. The most criticial part of the project was a pipeline running from Eilat to the major Israeli port of Ashdod. The Shah agreed to ship his oil via the pipeline, thus avoiding the Suez Canal, and then transport it, via tankers jointly owned by the venture, to Europe. Israel received approximately $200-million in oil from Iran before the Shah’s regime collapsed and Iran withdrew from the venture.

Iran urges India, China & Russia to counter NATO missile system

Iran has announced its readiness to cooperate with Russia, China and India on the issue of NATO’s missile shield and related threats from the military bloc, the head of its defense ministry said in Moscow.

“I’d like to support the idea of developing multifaceted defense cooperation between China, Iran, India and Russia to counter NATO eastwards expansion and installing a missile shield in Europe,” Hossein Dehghan said on Thursday, at an international security conference in Moscow.

Hours later Dehghan was cited by RIA Novosti as saying that Russia, China and Iran may hold tri-party defense talks.

“We discussed certain aspects of regional security. It was proposed to hold a trilateral meeting of Russia, Iran and China,” Dehghan said after meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.

Conference on the Israel Lobby—Press Blackout at the Press Club

So, where were the reporters of the mainstream media? Where was C-SPAN during a week when Congress was on a holiday and their cameras were not preoccupied by Capitol Hill activities—its foremost priority? Apparently, the American people were only to see and hear the extreme views of AIPAC that do not even command the support of a majority of American Jews who do favor a two-state solution, along with a majority of Arab-Americans.

Organized by the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, which was launched about thirty years ago by a British Army Officer who served in World War II and two retired U.S. Ambassadors to countries in the Middle East (wrmea.org), the day-long program at the prestigious National Press Club should have been intriguing to reporters. After all, are they not interested in important, taboo-challenging presentations on a critical dimension of U.S. foreign and military policy?

WHAT WAS FORGOTTEN ON HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY?

What, exactly, was remembered during Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day this week?

Not the victims of Israel’s latest slaughter in Gaza, where more than 2,200 civilians were killed less than a year ago. In the propagandistic world of “Holocaust memory” only Jews can be victims, so mainstream media marginalize the hundreds of Jewish Holocaust survivors and their descendants who publicly condemned “the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza” (their words). Instead, a leading Israeli newspaper informed us this week that “adult children of Holocaust survivors in Israel tend to be more anxious than their peers … about the Iranian nuclear threat” — even though Iran has no nuclear weapons and has never attacked Israel.

Iranian ship convoy moves toward Yemen, alarming US officials

U.S. military officials are concerned that Iran's support for Houthi rebels in Yemen could spark a confrontation with Saudi Arabia and plunge the region into sectarian war.
Iran is sending an armada of seven to nine ships — some with weapons — toward Yemen in a potential attempt to resupply the Shia Houthi rebels, according to two U.S. defense officials.

What's unusual about the new deployment, which set out this week, is that the Iranians are not trying to conceal it, officials said. Instead, they appear to be trying to "communicate it" to the U.S. and its allies in the Gulf.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Which suggests to me that the convoy is actually food and humanitarian aid.

Did the Senate just blow up the Iran nuclear deal?

Too many cooks spoil the broth, and that appears to be precisely what the Senate had in mind. Not just Israel’s friends in Congress, but the preponderance of the liberal foreign policy establishment worries that Obama has sacrificed urgent national security concerns out of personal ambition or sentiment. Steadfast Obama supporters like the Times’ Thomas Friedman expressed grave reservations, and the elders of the Republican establishment, Henry Kissinger and George Shultz, authored an extraordinary joint statement published April 7 in the Wall Street Journal. 39 Senators and 447 Congressmen signed a letter to the Islamic Republic of Iran warning that a future administration might void the present deal.

Israel’s Nuclear Weapons Program; The Former Soviet Union As America’s New Frontier

Since Hillary Clinton announced without any surprise that she was running for president, it is worth taking a look at her record. As U.S. Secretary of State during the conflict between Russia and Georgia, Clinton claimed that the U.S. was committed to “Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” and that the “United States does not recognize spheres of influence.”

In the meantime she was pushing for the military integration of countries from the former Soviet Union with NATO. Rick Rozoff commented at the time: “Despite Clinton’s claim to the contrary, the United States most decidedly recognizes spheres of influence. In its own hemisphere – the entirety of it – in the South Caucasus and everywhere else on the planet.”

Also in the double standard category, Washington is applying sanctions on Iran for its non existent nuclear weapons, even though the Pentagon has “officially” recognized that Israel is a nuclear power.

Op-Ed: Attack Now – Russian Interference Leaves Israel No Choice

The Obama Doctrine – scorn your friends, reward your enemies – has finally reaped the whirlwind, namely Russia and its pledge to provide Iran with an array of the most advanced “defensive” missiles on earth. This leaves Israel with no choice except to act BEFORE those missiles are deployed.

Israel must attack to remove those nukes before it’s too late.

If it was difficult to successfully strike Iran’s nuclear facilities today, tomorrow will be near impossible.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I was worried that Russia's sending defensive missiles to Iran might provoke this reaction.

I would like to remind everyone of three important facts before a lot of people die in yet another war.

1. Israel was at the forefront of screaming that Iraq had nuclear weapons, and bombed Iraq's nuclear power station at Osirak under the claim that it concealed a clandestine bomb factory similar to the one Israel maintains under Dimona. Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq (again supported by Israeli claims of nuclear weapons) experts examined the ruins of Osirak and found no evidence of a weapons facility, nor has any evidence to support Israel and the US' claim that Iraq had nuclear weapons ever been found. Israel has a very poor record of accuracy in knowing who does or does not have nuclear weapons, other than their own.

2. Iran has not launched a war of aggression against another country in over 200 years, standing in sharp contrast with Israel, which these days cannot seem to go six months without attacking one of their neighbors.

3. Iran has signed and ratified the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, So has the United States. Everything Iran is doing with nuclear power is allowed to them under that treaty. Recently declassified US documents support the conclusions from earlier documents released by South Africa, and Mordechai Vanunu's photos of the Dimona weapons factory. Israel does have nuclear weapons, has had them since the 1970s, including hydrogen bombs. Israel refuses to sign the NNPT or allow IAEA inspections. IN short, Iran is playing by the rules. Israel is not.

Iran is not going to attack Israel. The result would be Iran melted down into a giant glowing slab of green glass. What the Russian missiles do is make it impossible for Israel to bully Iran, or attack it to remove an economic rival, as Netanyahu himself admitted to only last week.

US, Israel OK'd Saudi war on Yemen: Iran defense min.

Iran’s defense minister says the Saudi aggression against Yemen has been authorized by the United States and the Israeli regime, calling for an immediate end to the deadly assaults.

Addressing the Fourth Moscow International Security Conference on Thursday, Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said the Saudi government unleashed deadly air raids against Yemen once it received the green light from the United States and Israel, and was promised military cooperation by some regional states.

He added that not only will the Saudi regime fail to achieve its “illegitimate” purposes in Yemen, but will also suffer a heavy defeat and precipitate its downfall, said Dehqan, adding a fate similar to that of former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, awaits Riyadh’s ruler.

S-300 missile system serves defense purposes for Iran: Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has defended Moscow’s recent decision to deliver S-300 air defense system to Iran, saying the system is meant for deterrence amid the developments in war-torn Yemen.

He made the remarks during his annual televised question-and-answer session with the nation at Gostiny Dvor (Merchant Yard) exhibition hall in the Russian capital city of Moscow on Thursday.

“This is a defensive weapons system. More than that, considering the situation that is building up in the region, especially regarding the incidents in Yemen, we think that the delivery of this kind of weapon is a preventive factor,” Putin said.

The comments come as Yemen has been the scene of deadly aerial assaults by Saudi Arabia since March 26. The attacks have so far killed some 2,600 people, according to Yemeni sources.

‘No end to sanctions, no agreement’: Iran sticks to nuclear deal demands

There’ll be no deal on Tehran’s nuclear program without the simultaneous lifting of all sanctions against Iran, President Hassan Rouhani stressed, echoing an earlier statement by Iranian supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

"If there is no end to sanctions, there will not be an agreement," Rouhani said in a televised speech in the northern Iranian city of Rasht. "The end of these negotiations and a signed deal must include a declaration of cancelling the oppressive sanctions on the great nation of Iran."

A Reckless Act in the Senate on Iran

Congress has formally muscled its way into President Obama’s negotiations with Iran, creating new and potentially dangerous uncertainties for an agreement that offers the best chance of restraining that country’s nuclear program.

With a unanimous vote on Tuesday, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved a bill that would require Congress to review, and then vote on, the final text of a nuclear deal. It would also prohibit Mr. Obama from waiving economic sanctions on Iran — the crucial element of any agreement under which Iran rolls back its nuclear program — for at least 30 days, and up to 52 days, after signing an agreement so Congress has time to weigh in.

The full Senate and the House will have to approve the bill. But the committee’s action gives momentum to those who have bitterly criticized Mr. Obama for negotiating with Iran, though they offer no credible alternative to the preliminary deal on the table.

Marco Rubio and AIPAC allied in effort to insert poison pill into Iran deal

Marco Rubio just announced for president in a call to donors. First things first.

Rubio has his foreign-policy priorities down, too. He wants to insert a poison pill into the Iran deal:

Sen. Marco Rubio wants to make Iran recognize Israel’s right to exist as a condition of any nuclear agreement with Tehran.

The Florida Republican has floated his proposal as a possible amendment to a Senate bill written by Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) that would allow Congress to disapprove of any deal…

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iran's deal is not with the US Government, it is with the international community. Congress has no authority over that community or the United Nations, which organized the P5+1. Congress, willing to allow the President to start wars and murder people on his own whims, is suddenly demanding oversight on a peace agreement, with the clear Israel-ordered agenda of killing the deal. But Congress can only kill the deal for the US, not the other nations. If the rest of the P5+1 agree to the deal, with the Congress being the lone holdout, the world will see the US as the rogue nation, acting once again as Israel's slave-state to start and fight Israel's wars.

China to build nuclear power plants for Iran

The Islamic Republic of Iran plans to produce at least 190,000 SWUs (Separative Work Units) of nuclear fuel at the industrial scale, while we also think about 1,000,000 SWUs, which will be needed to fuel 5 power plants like Bushehr nuclear power plant," Kamalvandi said, addressing a meeting dubbed as 'an Analysis of Lausanne Statement' in Tehran on Tuesday.

"This is the reason why we have inked an agreement with the Russians to construct two nuclear power plants for the generation of electricity while the Chinese will also enter this arena soon," he added.

Iran Says It Is Negotiating With World Powers, Not The U.S. Congress

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday that Tehran was negotiating a comprehensive nuclear deal with world powers, not the U.S. Congress, and called a Senate committee’s vote to give Congress the power to review any potential deal a domestic U.S. matter.

The Iranian leader, speaking in a televised speech in the northern Iranian city of Rasht, also repeated earlier statements that his country will not accept any comprehensive nuclear deal with world powers unless all sanctions imposed against it are lifted.

“We are in talks with the major powers and not with the Congress,” Rouhani said, Iranian state television reported. Rouhani said the U.S. Congress’ power to review a nuclear deal with Iran was a domestic U.S. matter

Israel Lobby Conference: How big is the Lobby ?

Any lawyers willing to do it? Support the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) movement, on American university campuses across the nation.

It is high time to engage the enemy with weaponry with which they are not only familiar, but weaponry which can penetrate their defenses and do damage. ‘Know thy Enemy’, learn from his successes.

Ahmad Saadaldin on Panel 3 (Overcoming obstacles: SJP – Student for Justice in Palestine successes) stood out as an especially inspiring representative of … a younger generation of activists.

The US administration and the US Congress have succumbed to the demands of the Zionists and the Zionist regime. American politicians and media have fallen captive to the Zionist network. This is a lethal ailment that afflicts the US.

Regrettably little is being done to cure this fatal disease.

Gideon Levy: A Prophetic Voice from Israel

The few prophetic voices we have, like Gideon Levy, will continue to remind us of the false prophets who have led us into the darkness.

As part of his mission, Levy came to Washington last week to speak at the National Press Club.

Levy came to Washington with the simple message that change in the situation between Israel and it neighbors will have to come from the U.S. He feels that Israel is a “lost case”. Change will not come from an Israeli society which “has surrounded itself with shields, with walls, not just physical walls but also mental walls.”

He sees three principles which allow “Israelis to live easily with the brutal tyranny that is the occupation”.

Hillary Clinton – the ‘Liberal’ Puppet for War

Hillary Clinton this week launched her bid for the US presidential elections in 2016.

Clinton’s Republican rivals or would-be rivals immediately fired the brickbats, accusing the 67-year-old former First Lady of being a «Washington insider» and the «embodiment of all that is wrong» in US politics.

Hillary Rodham Clinton is lambasted by Republicans as a «liberal».

Whether described as «liberal», «conservative» or «hawk» – all American presidential candidates are the same in practice. Puppets for sale.

The unintended irony of Clinton’s Republican detractors, who include rabid rightwing Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, as well as the maverick Senator Rand Paul, is that every single one of them will have to spend similar amounts of cash in their anticipated presidential campaigns.

Bomb Iran? Not now: bomb Yemen

“Operation Decisive Storm” – yet another Pentagon-style illegal war – has already plunged Yemen into the twin plagues of civil war and humanitarian disaster.

So what we have is the ‘Empire of Chaos’ ‘leading from behind’ in the war on Yemen and also de facto ‘leading from behind’ in the fight against ISIS/ISIL/Daesh; the ones doing the heavy lifting are Iraqi militias supported by Tehran. The hidden agenda is always – what else –chaos; be it across “Syraq” or inside Yemen. With an extra bonus; while Washington is engaged on striking a nuclear deal with Tehran, it also turbo-charges an alliance against Tehran using the House of Saud.

Putin briefs Netanyahu on logic behind sale of S-300 to Iran

Russian President Vladimir Putin has held a telephone conversation with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to brief him on the logic behind the Russian leadership’s decision to lift the freeze from the contract to sell S-300 air defense systems to Iran.
The Kremlin’s press service has said the Russian leader put the emphasis on the fact that the S-300 system had entirely defensive functions and by no means endangered the security of Israel or other countries in the Middle East.

Iran Deal Reached In Senate; White House Hints Its Support

A tentative deal has been reached by senators on a bill to apply congressional oversight to a nuclear deal with Iran. And early signals from the White House suggest the president will drop his veto threat and sign the measure.

Under the deal, the president would still be required to submit any final agreement before Congress and Congress would continue to have a say over whether he can lift sanctions on Iran in exchange for restrictions on Iran's nuclear program. But the new deal, hammered out between Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, would reduce the time frame the Senate has to consider the lifting of sanctions -- from 60 days to 52 at most -- and would keep demands on Iran limited primarily to its nuclear program and not, for example, against its sponsorship of terrorism.

"The president would be willing to sign the proposed compromise that is working its way through the committee today," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Tuesday.

Corker, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told MSNBC network on Tuesday morning, “We have reached a bipartisan agreement that keeps the congressional review process absolutely intact, full of integrity.”

How the GOP Became the Israel Party

Bill Kristol and John McCain have replaced Robert Novak and Pat Buchanan in Republican foreign policy influence.

When the unexpectedly detailed P5+1 framework agreement with Iran was announced last Thursday, Illinois Republican Mark Kirk made a bizarre comment. “We all know” said the senator, that this is going to end with “a mushroom cloud somewhere near Tehran”—a result of Israel having to go to war to “clean up the mess” made by American and European negotiators. A few days earlier John McCain had expressed the wish that Israel “go rogue” and attack Iran in order to upend the Iran negotiations.
