Why there is still no Iran nuke deal in Vienna

Deep into a warm Viennese night, with the legendary Café Sacher already closed, it was still a long way to go. In a hotel room, an Iranian diplomat mused; “The Americans created a structure of sanctions they don’t want to destroy. Emotionally, they want to keep it.” It’s no wonder that most of the unresolved brackets in the final text still relate to US and EU sanctions.

Video: ‘Right-wing pro-Israeli groups mobilizing massive money to kill Iran deal’

The U.S. and Iran appear to be on the cusp of a historic deal which could end decades of animosities and ensure a nuclear weapons-free Iran. But with political forces mobilizing on Capitol Hill to torpedo the deal, and both sides pushing for last-minute concessions, the likelihood of a breakthrough remains unclear. Does President Obama have enough political capital to ensure the sustainability of an eventual deal, and what are the broader geopolitical implications of the agreement? Oksana is joined by Trita Parsi, the President of the National American Iranian Council, to analyse these issues.

Is Alexis Tsipras the Mosaddegh of Our Time?

Like Tsipras, Mosaddegh is famous for a controversial and historic referendum. Mosaddegh’s rule was in turmoil domestically and outside the country, and he knew that the parliament was about to remove him from power soon. That’s why he held a referendum about the dissolution of the parliament, and to give himself temporary power to pass the laws necessary. The referendum was successful with 99% of the votes.

This remains Mosaddegh’s most controversial move to this, which many people including some reformists call undemocratic and unconstitutional. But the truth is that the parliament was handpicked by the Shah, Iran’s dictator, and they were about to overthrow the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran, and there is nothing undemocratic about turning to people’s votes, and getting a democratic mandate to push your agenda.

Keep It Quiet, Aide Tells Shouting Kerry and Iran Minister

As the negotiations grind on in the Austrian capital, frustrations have boiled over into decidedly undiplomatic confrontations. In one incident on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif could be heard shouting in nearby rooms.

A Kerry aide tip-toed into the room during the evening meeting at the Palais Coburg, a former aristocratic residence converted into a luxury hotel, to warn them that everyone outside could hear their row, according to Iranian state-run news agency IRNA.

Iran nuclear deal close; impasse over weapons, missiles persists

Iran and six world powers were close to an historic nuclear agreement on Thursday that could resolve a more than 12-year dispute over Teheran’s nuclear ambitions, but they remained deadlocked on the issue of Iranian arms and missile trade.

Webmaster's Commentary:

FOX News is reporting that the House Panel is holding a meeting today to issue new demands for the P5+1 including open access to all Iranian non-nuclear sites, in what is clearly a last-ditch attempt to derail the possibility of a deal and open the door for a war with Iran.

The Iran Deal’s Strategic Payoff

The Iran nuclear talks may be getting close to some sort of conclusion in Vienna, but American political and policy elites remain, to an appallingly large extent, clueless as to what is really at stake in the negotiations. (This was a significant theme in Hillary’s appearance on CNN, see here, and in Flynt’s appearance on CNBC, see here, to discuss the Vienna talks.)

Deadlock in Vienna Nuclear Talks with Iran

Washington obstructionism leaves Iran nuclear talks deadlocked as another deadline approaches for resolving remaining issues. Years of standoff persist.

Obama wants a one-way deal on his terms – demanding unreasonable Iranian concessions, raising the bar continually for more, wanting Iran subjugated and isolated as part of a long term plan to replace its government with a US-controlled puppet regime letting Big Oil plunder its hydrocarbon resources.

Greece – The Triumph of Democracy – the first day of a New Beginning

Congratulations! – With a resounding “OXI” = “No” – with 61% the Greek rejected the troika imposed austerity. They joined a majority of economists worldwide, including from the IMF, who also know that austerity doesn’t help recovery – and certainly doesn’t wipe out debt, the noose around a country’s neck.

But – what does the decisive no-vote mean for the 39% yes-voters? – Do they want more of austerity? – Hardly. Or were they manipulated with fear-mongering by the mostly privately owned western media, which also dominate Greece?– Blackmailed by the threats of Brussels? – Were they afraid of what’s next? – Western presstitute media propaganda for a “yes” vote, spiked with fear, threats and purposeful confusion was horrendous.

Anti-Iran Lobby Steps Up Its Game Before Deadline for P5+1 Talks

The U.S. and Iranian nuclear negotiators have just announced a one week extension of their nuclear talks. If, as expected, there is an agreement next week, it will open a new stage of tension in the process leading to its final formal ratification by all parties. For then, the U.S. Congress will have 30 days to vote the agreement up or down. This vote, forced on an unwilling president by his own party’s Senate members several weeks ago, poses a new threat. For the Israel Lobby, it offers a new opportunity to sabotage the deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mind you, this is the same Congress that pore-approves wars and fast-tracks trade deals because they can't be bothered doing their actual job, but when Israel says jump, they all shout "Ouch, my KNEES!!!"

U.S. official: Iran will face arms, missile restrictions under nuclear deal

Iran will continue to face restrictions on its missile program as well as its trade in conventional arms under an emerging nuclear agreement, a senior U.S. official said on Tuesday, hours after diplomats said that the talks between Tehran and world powers would continue past deadline until July 10.

The six major powers and Iran are still not where they need to be to achieve an agreement under which Iran would restrict its nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions, the official added on condition of anonymity.

"There will be an ongoing restriction on arms (if there is a deal), just like there will be ongoing restrictions regarding missiles," the official said. "It will be part of the (United Nations) Security Council resolution."

Webmaster's Commentary:

The world understands that the US has "weaponized" the world's dependence on the US dollar to strip Iran (a nation which has not initiated a war of conquest against another nation in over 200 years) of their ability to defend themselves against a future attack by the US or Israel. This is a major reason so many other nations are breaking free of the US-dominated western financial system.

Latest Netanyahu cartoon says west is allowing ISIS to build ‘atomic bombs’ aimed at US and Christianity

As the P5+1 push ahead to make a deal with the Iranian government over its nuclear program, the Israeli prime minister has published his latest cartoon to try and stop the deal. This cartoon equates ISIS, the Islamic state, with the “Islamic State of Iran” and suggests that the west is going to allow ISIS to get nukes.

Imagine Islamic State building atomic bombs. Well, maybe it’s not that hard to imagine.

The Islamic State of Iran – like ISIS. Just much bigger.

The cartoon ends with an ISIS fighter who has morphed into an Iranian ayatollah hugging nuclear warheads that are labeled with the US, Israel, Christianity and gay rights.

Nuclear Talks: US Spin on Access to Iranian Sites Has Distorted the Issue

Access to Iranian sites continues to be a thorny issue and the Americans may be playing a dirty game in the media

A public diplomacy campaign by the Obama administration to convince world opinion that Iran was reneging on the Lausanne framework agreement in April has seriously misrepresented the actual diplomacy of the Iran nuclear talks, as my interviews with Iranian officials here make clear.

President Barack Obama’s threat on Tuesday to walk out of the nuclear talks if Iranian negotiators didn’t return to the Lausanne framework – especially on the issue of IAEA access to Iranian sites — was the climax of that campaign.

Breakthrough Reported in Iran Talks, But Differences Remain

The P5+1 nuclear negotiations with Iran continue apace this weekend, with officials describing Saturday’s talks in Vienna as a “breakthrough,” and one which now has the two sides sitting on an unofficial draft agreement which could end up serving as the basis for a final pact.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif conceding that despite the progress, the final deal still isn’t necessarily clear, and that some difference remain and will require significant effort to move past. Exactly what remains to resolve is unclear.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF these reports are true, fingers crossed that an agreement can be reached.

Not reaching an agreement may well mean war with Russia, something for which the US military is woefully unprepared.

And I say this NOT to fault the US military per se, but right now, it does not have the troop strength, the manufacturing, or the money to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war with Russia.

Secondly, the weapons which have been bought for the US military are enormously expensive, don't work as advertised, and sometimes do not work at all.

Russia spends less on weapons that does the US government, but the weapons they buy are fully vetted and when they have to be counted on by Russian military in the field, they work.

US Senate trying to sabotage Iran nuclear talks: Analyst

“I just don’t see it likely that the US Senate is going to allow any kind of a nuclear deal to go through, and all they would have to do is… invoke another round of sanctions on Iran and the deal is off,” said James Morris, editor of America-hijacked.com

In a phone interview with Press TV on Monday, he said, “The demands that have been put on Iran are unreasonable.”

Morris made the remarks when asked to comment on a message tweeted by US foreign policy scholar Zbigniew Brzezinski, encouraging Washington to broker a deal with Iran.

“As the Mideast grows increasingly chaotic, it’s smarter to increase stability, not reduce it. A deal with Iran is better than no deal,” Brzezinski wrote.

US Senate hawks move to scuttle Iran deal by extending sanctions: Analyst

A recent legislative move by US Senate hawks to extend sanctions against Iran for 10 additional years is nothing but an attempt to “scuttle” an emerging nuclear deal, says an antiwar activist.

“This is an effort to scuttle the negotiated deal between Iran and the P5+1 over Iran’s nuclear program,” Joe Iosbaker, a leader of the United National Antiwar Coalition, told Press TV on Friday.

Senators Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and Bob Menendez (D-NJ) have filed an amendment to the national defense budget that would extend congressional sanctions against Iran.

If passed, the amendment would extend the Sanctions Act of 1996 until the end of 2026. The current act is set to expire at the end of 2016.

BEX ALERT - Netanyahu: Israel now faces double threat from Iran and ISIS

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday that "Israel now faces two threats: that of ISIS – and that of Iran."

He added in a statement issued yesterday, a copy of which was obtained by Anadolu news agency, that "We need not strengthen one at the expense of the other. We need to weaken both and prevent the aggression and arming of both".

Webmaster's Commentary:

Netanyahu's new propaganda strategy is to link ISIS and Iran in the public mind, so that the hate created by the US/Israel manufactured front group transfers onto Iran, which has not launched a war of aggression against another country in over 200 years.

CNN Rattles Sabers as Iran Talks Move Into Key Stage

With a 7-day extension hinting at the possibility of a major breakthrough in nuclear negotiations with Iran, CNN turned the tables and instead released a story talking about US bunker-busting bombs being put on standby.

The focus on a “military option” against Iran, the idea that in the middle of key talks the US could just up and attack Iran out of the blue, wasn’t actually based on new anything US officials said. Indeed, the CNN piece relied solely on a single quote from Defense Secretary Ash Carter in an interview from way back in April.

US officials do occasionally make puzzling decisions to threaten to attack Iran, but this was not one of those times, and rather CNN invented this story as a whole cloth exercise in 19th century-style yellow journalism.

ANOTHER LOONEY TOON

The video, just 28 seconds long, was published on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s social media pages Tuesday and argued that allowing Iran to obtain nuclear weapons would be even worse than giving nukes to the jihadist IS group — also known as ISIS — that has rampaged across Iraq and Syria brutally murdering opponents in its path.

As Iran nuclear deadline passes, narrative battle heats up

The real issue holding things up is whether the Americans have the "political will" to make that leap, to agree in writing to its obligations (without 100 caveats) and the courage to face their sprawling bureaucracy whose bread-and-butter is the 'sanctions industry' and the 'Iranian enemy.' says Sharmine Narwani

It’s D-Day in Vienna, and the parties sitting across the negotiating table still haven’t ironed out terms to settle a 12-year standoff over Iran’s nuclear program. Expect this deadline to be missed. And prepare for a lot of hot air to fill its space.

The “hot air” is calculated narrative-spin from a range of players that seek to 1) scuttle a deal, 2) increase pressure/create leverage at the negotiating table, or 3) frame an upcoming agreement in language favorable to one side.

Iran and six world powers extend nuclear negotiations deadline by one week

"The P5+1 and Iran have decided to extend the measures under the Joint Plan of Action until July 7 to allow more time for negotiations to reach a long-term solution," said Marie Harf, a senior adviser for strategic communications at the US State Department.
The major text of the final 80-page deal is still a subject of negotiations in Austria’s capital Vienna. Now the scrupulous work will continue at the level of experts and political directors. It is still unclear when the ministers will join it.
A diplomatic source told TASS has not ruled out that the ministers could arrive in Vienna by July 5. "We are discussing the issue on the possibility of the meeting on Sunday," he said.

Greece – A Moving Target

Mr. Tsipras lets it be known that if the Greek vote ‘yes’ – for the austerity program, he may resign – that might bring the hegemon’s desired ‘regime change’.

Greece is a moving target. A new bail-out package in the wings? Being negotiated as these lines are going to print? An act of desperation? – Confusing for sure – for the electorate, for observers – but especially for the suffering every-day Greek. Almost hour by hour things are changing.

A last-minute, last ditch negotiation with Brussels for a new bail-out program has apparently been initiated by Athens for two years. No amount has been mentioned – let alone the austerities that Greece would have to accept – or the troika.

‘New demands on Iran – deliberate stumbling blocks’

All sort of things in these negotiations are going on behind the scenes, not only between the P5+1 and Iran but between the Western allies as well.

France's Fabius says three conditions still not met for Iran deal

"For this there are three indispensable conditions: a lasting limitation of Iran's research and development capacity, a rigorous inspection of sites, including military if needed, and the third condition is the automatic return of sanctions in case it violates its commitments."

Webmaster's Commentary:

France is now doing Israel's dirty work for them! Iran has never agreed to inspections of non-nuclear military sites (despite claims they did so in the original framework). And non-nuclear military sites are irrelevant in the context of this being a deal about nuclear weapons. The other automatic deal-breaker is the threat that sanctions can be returned in an instant if anyone (like Israel or even just a stockbroker selling Iranian stocks short) makes any unfounded accusation about Iran at all.

Iran, World Powers Plan To Keep Nuclear Talks Going Beyond June 30 Deadline, Official Says

The six world powers seeking to negotiate an historic agreement with Iran to curb its nuclear program plan to carry on negotiating beyond a Tuesday deadline, a senior U.S. official said on Sunday.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was to leave Vienna and return to Tehran for consultations with the country's leadership on the state of negotiations, Iran said.

Officials from both sides said big differences still remained.

European Union foreign policy chief Frederica Mogherini said earlier on Sunday it was not impossible to get an accord by the self-imposed deadline but that a few extra days may be needed.

Foreign ministers from the negotiating countries were gathering in Vienna on Sunday to assess where the talks stood. They expected them to spill over into July.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With these talks "spilling over" into July, the logical question I have to ask is, how long before Israel bombs the Iranian reactors with impunity, in order to make the negotiations null and void?!?

And as the country which has offered the training and technology to Iran to make their nuclear state possible, what will Russia do when that happens?!?

Unfortunately, Israel's Netanyahu is hubristic enough to not have considered this, but I would strongly caution any sane member of his cabinet to raise the question, loudly, and articulately.

P5+1 and Iran Have Settled Framework for Sanctions Relief Timing, Says Iranian Sources

Contrary to public posturing on the timing and pace of sanctions relief, a framework for handling this critical matter of the nuclear deal has been resolved, according to Iranian sources.

Iranian officials have on numerous occasions insisted that sanctions relief must come immediately upon the signing of an agreement. This has been at direct odds with the position of the U.S. government and its allies, who insist that relief only can come after Iran has taken numerous steps limiting its nuclear activities.

As often times is the case in diplomacy, the solution was found in a combination of a play with words and practical measures.

He pointed to Iran’s proposal World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE), which was adopted by the United Nations in the form of a resolution, saying that the approval of the resolution went a long way in countering the false images of Iran, Press TV reported.

The Delphi Declaration – Paul Craig Roberts

The Delphi Declaration asks the European peoples, especially the Germans, to do the right thing and object to the plunder of Greece by the One Percent.

This appeal to goodwill is likely to fall on deaf ears even though the pillage of Greece will create a precedent that can then be applied to Italy, Spain, France, and even Germany.

European governments, European institutions and the IMF, acting in close alliance, if not under direct control of big international banks and other financial institutions, are now exercising a maximum of pressure, including open threats, blackmailing and a slander and terror communication campaign against the recently elected Greek government and against the Greek people.

Lower US Flag on 4th of July

We need to do a lot more searching, a lot deeper digging, if we're going to root out and destroy the virus that has been killing us for centuries!

For over half a century, I’ve written articles against racism and war. I was shocked and I grieved to see what happened at the Charleston Emanuel Church. Quickly, the call went out: We need to have a “conversation” about race in America! And, almost as quickly: Take down the Confederate flag! But, let’s be very clear: the Confederate flag is NOT a central issue here.

On the 4th of July, when Americans raise their flags as a proud symbol of their “freedom,” will anyone dare to lower their flags to half-mast to commemorate the 60,000 Americans who died in a now-acknowledged “unnecessary” war in Vietnam– let alone the millions of Asians?

Would it be disrespectful even to suggest such a gesture?

Massive US Media Campaign Aims to Derail Iran Nuclear Deal

With the June 30 deadline for the Iran nuclear deal just days away, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), an organization bankrolled in large part by Republican super-hawk Sheldon Adelson, is stepping up in its typical role of spoiler, launching a new media campaign aimed at killed the pact.

UANI and its cohorts center the ads on dubiously-worded allegations of Iranian nuclear plots, and spurious claims of Iran “single-handedly” killing thousands of US ground troops during the Iraq occupation. The group’s latest campaign features demands more or less entirely in line with comments from hawkish Republican Senators in recent days, which are meant to be directly contrary to what Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says he expects out of an acceptable deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately in this country, money buys foreign policy in politics, so Adelson may not be that far from his goal of buying the destruction of the P5+1 deal.

There are many issues upon which I have very vocally criticised the Obama administration; this, however, is not one of them.

IF the US government allows the P5+1 deal to fail, it will have no one but itself (and Israel) to blame for the war which will almost inevitably ensue from the failure of the deal.

30,000 Pound Bomb: U.S. Prepares To Strike Iran’s Nuke Facilities With Massive Ordnance Penetrator

As U.S. nuclear talks with Iran build to a head, with a June 30 deadline fast approaching to come to an agreement on how Iran will move forward with its nuclear program, the U.S. Air Force has been rehearsing with a 30,000 pound bunker busting bomb in case Iran continues toward developing nuclear weapons.

The bomb is called the Massive Ordnance Penetrator, or MOP, and is the largest non-nuclear weapon in the world. The massive bomb is designed to take on highly fortified and underground targets, with an ability to burrow 200 feet into the ground or through 60 feet of concrete, and then detonating.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am having a palm to forehead moment, at velocity, upon reading this.

And Iran's government can barely be characterised as "defiant" with a straight face by anyone who has been watching these negotiations; there are certain things to which they have NEVER agreed, that the US claims they have, such as inspection of all military sites, and interviews with their nuclear scientists on demand.

Over the last 20 years, I have been on a journey from a place, an America I thought I knew and understood, to an America where its foreign policy has devolved into apoplectic power grabs by its money junkies in power to own all the world's resources, no matter the cost to its citizens or the world.

I do not recognise this country anymore.

The Greek people are being penalized for having had the audacity to elect a socialist government – How dare they! – That’s the verdict.

What the troika is doing to Greece these days is the pinnacle of financial terrorism. It is economic waterboarding. It is blackmailing of the first degree. These people are neoliberal fascists, putting the Greek government before a dilemma – ‘either you present us with an acceptable list of austerities, or we will prepare one for you’ – literally. An austerity plan you better accept, lest you may default and being expulsed from the European monetary union and maybe even the EU. That is their threat. That is what Brussels does to a brother; to one of theirs. There is not a shred of solidarity left in this miss-called ‘Union’. This ‘Union’ doesn’t deserve existing.

Israel’s Dangerous Game with Syrian Al Nusra Islamists

Recently, Israeli TV aired an interview (Hebrew, at the 2:00 mark) with a wounded Syrian fighter who was treated in Israel after being evacuated from the combat zone. As I, and many other journalists have reported, Israel, despite the false claim of neutrality in the civil war, has frequently intervened in the conflict on behalf of forces opposed to Bashar al-Assad. It does this less because it opposes Assad himself, than because its arch-enemies, Iran and Hezbollah, are the regime’s strongest allies.

Russian President Vladimir Putin phoned U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday, their first call since February, to discuss Iran nuclear talks, "the increasingly dangerous situation in Syria" and the need to counter Islamic State militants, the White House said in a statement.

Ehud Barak: US lost negotiation leverage with Iran by committing publicly to reach nuclear deal

As the deadline approaches for a deal on Iran’s nuclear program, many in the US and the Middle East remain skeptical that it will prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. With the promise of a breakthrough in the decades-long impasse being weighed against the prospects of nuclear proliferation in the region, any outcome is bound to be controversial. Would a compromise contribute to stability, or will it sow the seeds of future conflict? Worlds Apart host Oksana is joined by Ehud Barak, the former Prime Minister of Israel, to piece together these issues.

Israel lobby pushing US to thwart nuclear deal with Iran: Analyst

The powerful Israel lobby in the United States is seeking to forestall a nuclear agreement with Iran and ignite another war in the Middle East, a political commentator in Los Angeles says.

“The problem that we have right now in America with people like John Kerry, the secretary of state, of course, is that you have a lot of Zionist influence, said James Morris, editor of America-hijacked.com, a blog charting the influence of the Jewish lobby.

“The Israel lobby is working overtime to try to get a war going with Iran,” Morris told Press TV on Thursday. “It seems that we are on a path to another war for Israel in the Middle East.”

Patriots’ owner brings 20 NFL veterans to Netanyahu who calls on them to block Obama’s Iran deal

Robert Kraft, the owner of the champion New England Patriots, is a longtime supporter of Israel. Today he led a delegation of 20 former NFL players, many of them in the Hall of Fame, to Israel, where they met with PM Benjamin Netanyahu and he used the visit to inveigh against the Iran deal.

How the Bush Administration Created the Iran "Nuclear Confession" Scam

Secretary of State John Kerry gave further legitimacy to a long-running official scam over the demand for a confession from Iran last week, even as he argued that getting details of Iran's alleged past work on nuclear weapons wasn't necessary for a nuclear agreement.Kerry said Tuesday that the Obama administration was "not fixated on Iran specifically accounting for what they did at one point in time or another." That wasn't necessary for a deal, Kerry explained, because, "We know what they did. ... We have absolute knowledge with respect to the certain military activities they were engaged in."

Rep. Gohmert: Obama Outed Active Israeli Iranian Spy Mission

United States Congressman Louie Gohmert revealed Thursday that the Obama administration had “outed” an active Israeli spy mission in Iran. Israel, he said, had infiltrated Israeli spies into mainland Iran via cargo boats.

He dropped the bombshell in a speech at EMET’s 9th annual “Rays of Light in the Darkness” gala dinner.

Rep. Gohmert, who is one Israel’s fiercest and truest friends on Capitol Hill, stated: “We are on the brink of disaster.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Can we crowd-fund a one-way plane ticket to Israel for Gohmert? And for that matter for every US politicians who is obviously more loyal to Israel than to the United States?

Trapping Russia to Prove a Negative

The prove-a-negative trap is the Big Lie technique of Nazi propagandist Josef Goebbels: there is no substance to the allegations and there is no obligation to present evidence to verify, thanks to the dutiful and unquestioning nature of Western corporate “journalism”.

The United States and its Western allies are trying to ensnare Russia in an audacious disinformation trap over the Ukraine conflict. That trap involves imposing an insoluble conundrum on Vladimir Putin’s government, which we might call “prove a negative”. It is a familiar conceptual device that Washington has used elsewhere, against Iraq and Iran for example, in order to pursue what are otherwise illegitimate geopolitical aims.Russia is being held up as the guilty party that is undermining the shaky Minsk ceasefire; and Western economic sanctions are being extended “until Russia implements the ceasefire”.

The Myth of Global ‘Free’ Trade

The key to TTIP is the so-called Investor-State Dispute Settlement mechanism that essentially gives corporations free reign to sue governments using a “failure to implement” provision, if state policies or legislation interfere with profits. But is this all about trade?

There was a direct, crucial “secret” agenda linking the G7 meeting in Germany and the Bilderberg meeting in Austria last week; the advancement of the virtually secret negotiations towards the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), the massive free trade agreement between the US and the EU.

Even though the corporate powers behind TTIP are itching for a deal to be reached before the end of 2015, serious (negotiation) trouble remains.

Trump for President? — Paul Craig Roberts

This is not my endorsement of Trump for President. It is merely my speculations on how we might think of how large egos might be brought into our service.

Celente put it well. If you look at the sorry collection that aspires to be the CEO of what continues to be described as the “exceptional, indispensable, most important country with the largest economy and military, the world’s only Superpower, the Uni-power,” you see a collection of nobodies. America is like the last days of Rome when contenting factions fought to put their puppet on the throne.

In actual fact, Trump might be our best candidate to date. By all accounts, he is very rich. Thus, he doesn’t need the office in order to become rich by selling out America to interest groups.

Alison Weir Replies to JVP Leaders’ McCarthy-like Attacks

It is time to stop fighting among ourselves, for JVP and others to stop their witch hunts against deeply committed writers and activists, for JVP to stop its attempted censorship and domination of the Palestine movement, and for all of us to get on with our desperately important work.

With the publication of my book last year, “Against our Better Judgment: The hidden history of how the US was used to create Israel,” the attacks seemed to escalate.

It appeared that some JVP leaders were attempting to thwart my talks and prevent people from learning the facts that my book and my talks contain.

American CEOs Eye Iran: Interview with Prominent US Businessman/Investor

I have gone on two trips to Iran, in spring of 2014 and 2015. ... Little of what we saw is what we are normally exposed to through American news ... Few of us had a sense for what Tehran looked like - the quality of roads, the quantity of traffic but of newer cars, how most signs are also in English, how couples and families in parks show open displays of affection. We were deeply impressed by the quality of the infrastructure, the talent, and educational skill (especially engineering) of the youth. We were treated with great warmth and respect as Americans in both meetings and random encounters ... Iran is a surprisingly wired country. Nearly 65 percent of homes have broadband access.

In the USA – “I Cannot Write!”

The West is finished, its culture dead. What is left is unattractive, even horrifying. There is no heart, no compassion, and no creativity.

It was the first time in many years that I had missed my column, my essays, for several weeks.

I was shocked by the state in which I found the United States.

I couldn’t breath. I lost the ability to write. I felt anger building inside me. The anger was suffocating, strangling me. It was unhealthy anger, mixed with frustration! It was not that sacred anger one feels when going to a battle against great evil. It was also somehow petty, indescribable, and pathetic. It was breaking me, humiliating me.

I hated the fights I had to fight here.

I tried to see the reality that was surrounding me with different eyes but wherever I looked I saw only a dysfunctional, sad, collapsing country and culture.

This visit broke me. It exhausted me. It thoroughly depressed me.

Jens Stoltenberg: NATO’s Mr Zig-Zag

So, who is rattling sabres here?

Obviously, the NATO alliance is on a dangerous, threatening roll toward Russia’s borders. American-led war games, thousands of troops and tanks, missiles, warplanes and warships have proliferated at dizzying speed over the past year, from the Baltic to the Black Sea. Currently, NATO is conducting its biggest-ever war manoeuvres in the Baltic region, and yet when Russia takes reasonable defensive measures, Stoltenberg accuses Moscow of sabre-rattling. Just this week, prior to the Russian ICBM announcement, the Pentagon told the Paris Air Show that it was considering the stationing of its new generation of stealth F-22 and F-35 fighter jets in Europe – another contravention in a whole series of audacious contraventions of the 1997 Russia-NATO Founding Act which forbids such NATO military expansion.

Robotic Warfare Part of Pentagon Strategy to Defeat Eurasia

Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work expounded upon the US’ military strategy in Eurasia during a speech at the Army War College Strategy Conference on 8 April, revealing critical insight into the Pentagon’s formal approach to forthcoming conflicts.

Work’s words should be read in full by any strategist endeavoring to understand the imperatives that guide the world’s most armed forces. He elaborates on the theoretical foundations of American military might, including how the Pentagon plans to counter the three types of wars supposedly being waged by Iran, Russia, and China.

The main strategic innovation being presented is something called the “Third Offset Strategy”, which in practice amounts to electromagnetic anti-missile rail guns and seamless combat integration between man and machine.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work: why are you not preparing for peace?!? A peace that involves hard, good-faith negotiations, and people working together for the common good?!?

I come from San Francisco, and that's earthquake country. So are parts of China, and Iran. Can you imagine if the best experts from all these countries came together to create an affordable building material that was quake-resistant? What if they could develop an earthquake prediction system that really worked, so we can save lives?!?

You see, I do not want to live in the world it appears US Deputy Secretary of Defense Work wishes to build; a world of fear, manufactured hatred, and loathing, and ultimately war. I see the possibilities for collaboration on many scientific fronts, for example the use of 3D printing in the medical arena.

It seems to me that there is a horrifically communicable mental illness in DC, and this mental illness has to do the making of money through war at all costs, no matter how much the people of the warring countries have to suffer. And it is this simple:

"War's never fought for the reasons you're given,
those in power keep feeding you lies
And the reasons you're made to keep fighting and killing
should come as no big surprise.
It's not about freedom, or glory, or honor,
or preserving the American Way;
It's all about money, control, greed and power,
and making those who resist go away...
And making those who resist go away..."

(*From the soon to be released song by Claire Rivero, "War's never fought for the reasons you're given")

BEX ALERT - Iran Still Supports Terrorism, State Department Finds

Iran continued its “terrorist-related” activity last year and also continued to provide broad military support to President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, the State Department said Friday in its annual report on terrorism.

The State Department’s assessment suggests that neither the election of President Hassan Rouhani nor the prospect of a nuclear accord with the United States and its negotiating partners has had a moderating effect on Iran’s foreign policy in the Middle East.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Bad Iran. BAD Iran!!!" -- Official White Horse Souse

Everf notice that when Iran supports Syria's government, it is terror, but when the US supports the hired mercenaries trying to overthrow Syria's government, it is called "nation-building" and "bringing the people Democracy!"

I am concerned about this announcement coming as it does on the heels of Israel's testing of radioactive dirty bombs in the Negev.

Oh, What A Tangled Web Israel Weaves When They Practice To Decieve.

Today I would rather address the immediate issues we will face in the Mideast for the next 90 days. My regular readers know that I do not believe America is headed to war either with Russia over the Ukraine or with the Chinese over the South China Seas. America is too weak to even contemplate such wars. Our professional soldiers will mutiny rather than follow orders to lead a tank assault against the Russians.

That leaves the Mideast where Israel controls the forces of Al Qaeda, ISIS, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the Kurds and the US.

Stuxnet-Like Digital Attack on Iran Nuclear Talks May Have Come from Israel, Security Researchers Say

Moscow-based technical security company Kaspersky Lab last week revealed evidence of a new cyber attack on both its own network and those of several European hotels that hosted nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 (US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany) last year.

This follows a March 2015 Wall Street Journal report that revealed senior White House officials knew Israel was spying on talks surrounding Iran's nuclear program. The report explained, “the spying operation was part of a broader campaign by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government to penetrate the negotiations and then help build a case against the emerging terms of the deal.”

China Rising — Pepe Escobar

Americans have to eventually share their preeminent position with China.”

As intellectual acumen and cross-cultural expertise go, it would be hopeless to expect self-described “Don’t Do Stupid Stuff” Obama administration foreign policy advisers — as well as Pentagon functionaries/hacks — to understand the complexities of China.

For instance, they would be incapable of evaluating all the myriad ramifications included in Professor Alfred McCoy’s masterful deconstruction of US-China geopolitics.

“The US cannot stop China’s rise. It just has to live with a bigger China, which will be completely novel for the US, as no country has ever been big enough to challenge its position. China will be able to do so in 20 to 30 years.” (Lee said that at the Future China Global Forum in Singapore, in 2011. Under Xi, China is already challenging the U.S.’s position.)

Syriza: Plunder, Pillage and Prostration

How the ‘Hard Left’ embraces the policies of the Hard Right

Greece has been in the headlines of the world’s financial press for the past five months, as a newly elected leftist party, ‘Syriza’, which ostensibly opposes so-called ‘austerity measures’, faces off against the “Troika” (International Monetary Fund, the European Commission and European Central Bank).

Early on, the Syriza leadership, headed by Alexis Tsipras, adopted several strategic positions with fatal consequences – in terms of implementing their electoral promises to raise living standards, end vassalage to the ‘Troika’ and pursue an independent foreign policy.

We will proceed by outlining the initial systemic failures of Syriza and the subsequent concessions further eroding Greek living standards and deepening Greece’s role as an active collaborator of US and Israeli imperialism.

American dreaming, from G1 to Bilderberg

G1 plus junior partners? Bilderberg? Get a job; you’re not the only show in town, any town.

What’s the connection between the G7 summit in Germany, President Putin’s visit to Italy, the Bilderberg club meeting in Austria, and the TTIP – the US-EU free trade deal – negotiations in Washington?

We start at the G7 in the Bavarian Alps – rather G1 with an added bunch of “junior partners” – as US President Barack Obama gloated about his neo-con induced feat; regiment the EU to soon extend sanctions on Russia even as the austerity-ravaged EU is arguably hurting even more than Russia.

The “civilized” G1 + junior partners could not possibly argue whether they would collectively risk a nuclear war on European soil over a Kiev-installed ‘Banderastan’, sorry, “Russian aggression.”
