Dershowitz spills the beans: Supreme Court’s Jerusalem case impact on Iran deal

Alan Dershowitz has been giving a few interviews this week lambasting Mondays’ Supreme Court decision overturning an unconstitutional 2002 law on Jerusalem. Predictably, he doesn’t like it. According to Dershowitz, the ruling is not only “silly” and “utterly unnecessary“–it’s also “dangerous to the world”.

Why? because Dershowitz thinks it gives too much power to the President over Congress regarding the Iran deal. He’s wrong but it’s interesting for what it revealed about the intentions of the parties pushing the case.

During an interview broadcast last night on an Israeli TV station he spilled the beans.

Hawkish Hillary Clinton and Her Israel-First Political Sugar Daddy Haim Saban

Considerable attention has been devoted to the millions of dollars Bill and Hillary Clinton have received from wealthy individuals and corporations for their foundation and for themselves.

Hillary Clinton’s greatest billionaire backer has been Haim Saban, a dual United States-Israel citizen and hardline supporter of Israel, who has openly commented, “I’m a one-issue guy, and my issue is Israel.”

It would not be beyond the realm of possibility that those who handed over tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Clinton Foundation (some of which took place while Hillary was Secretary of State) or to the couple themselves for speaker fees expected favors in return.

Ukrainians Dispossessed, Americans are next — Paul Craig Roberts

Americans are already dispossessed of their livelihoods and careers and their pensions are next. Wherever we look, the fate of populations under Western influence are the same. The Ukrainians are exploited, the Greeks, the British, the Americans.

Apologists for exploitation claim that the rich are richer because they are smarter. But the stupidity of the rich is everywhere visible. The greedy fools have destroyed their domestic US market. Really, how stupid can you be? How do Americans buy when they are forced by offshoring out of well paid manufacturing and software engineering jobs into being waitresses, bartenders, retail clerks and part-time Walmart workers in order that corporate bottom lines improve? Who buys the stuff that sustains the profits? Not Americans who no longer have the incomes to do so.

US confident there was no cyber-spying breach in Iran talks

The US State Department — on the front lines of the sensitive Iran nuclear negotiations — said Thursday it was confident there had been no security breach, after Swiss and Austrian investigators launched probes into alleged cyber-spying.

Najafi: Israel's Spying on Nuclear Talks Expected

Iran's top envoy to the UN nuclear watchdog agency said Israel's spying on the nuclear talks was nothing unexpected to Tehran.

"The nuclear negotiations has enemies, specially the Zionist regime that does not want the talks to succeed. Owing to the same fact, they would spare no efforts and their spying was and is not an unexpected issue," Reza Najafi said on Friday.

Yet, the IAEA envoy stressed that the negotiators have always adopted the necessary precautions.

A cybersecurity firm has identified breaches in its software at three luxury Swiss hotels from a virus considered a hallmark of Israeli intelligence operations. The three hotels hosted the Iran nuclear talks.

Obama’s Stupid Propaganda Stuff

Obama spouts stupid propaganda stuff that is ultimately damaging to the American Republic.

President Barack Obama must know better regarding the crisis in Ukraine, but he insists on reciting the propaganda lines drafted by his neoconservative and “liberal interventionist” advisers blaming everything on Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Watching his behavior in the White House over the past six-plus years, I’ve come to suspect that – if he had been a national politician amid the Iraq War fever – he would have gotten in line just like ambitious Sens. Hillary Clinton, John Kerry and Joe Biden did. Even as President, a position that gives him enormous power to push back against Official Washington’s “group think,” he won’t.

WPost Plays Ukraine’s Lapdog

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yatsenyuk and Finance Minister Jaresko are on a U.S. trip to drum up weapons and money to crush the ethnic Russian resistance in the east – and they are finding a lapdog U.S. press that won’t ask them tough questions.

There once was a time when the U.S. news media investigated U.S. imperial adventures overseas, such as Washington-sponsored coups. Journalists also asked tough questions to officials implicated in corruption even if those queries were inconvenient to the desired propaganda themes. But those days are long gone, as the Washington Post demonstrated again this week.

Israel Used Same Duqu Malware To Hack Kaspersky, Spy On Iranian Nuclear Negotiations

The virus used to hack the Russian cybersecurity company Kaspersky Labs is an improved version of the malicious software that was used in an attempt to monitor nuclear negotiations with Iran, according to Kaspersky. Israel is believed to be behind both hacks, as each strain of malware is also a variant of the Stuxnet virus deployed against Iran by the U.S. and Israel in 2010.

Kaspersky dubbed the newest virus Duqu 2.0, an updated version of the Duqu virus that targeted three European luxury hotels where diplomats from around the world were staying when they congregated to iron out details of the Iranian nuclear deal over the past 18 months. Representatives from the U.K., the U.S., China, France, Germany and Russia (the so-called P5+1) were on hand for the negotiations, though from afar Israel loudly protested the plan to ease the restrictions on Iran's nuclear program.

Iran nuclear talks 'virtually stalled', deadline may be missed: TASS

Nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers have virtually stalled and a deadline for a final deal may have to be postponed again, Russian news agency TASS quoted a diplomatic source as saying on Friday.

Iran and the powers -- the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany -- are trying to reach a settlement by June 30 under which Iran would curb its nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.

The United States has said it stands by the end-June deadline for the deal, meant to assuage Western fears that Iran is working to develop a nuclear bomb.

The latest round of discussions in Vienna on Friday had made no significant progress, the source from one of the missions said, according to TASS.

"The process has virtually stalled, there is risk that deadline will have to be postponed again," TASS said the source added.

Two weeks before Iran nuclear deal deadline, Israeli delegation to head to Washington

An Israeli delegation headed by National Security Adviser Yossi Cohen will arrive in Washington on Monday for a final round of talks with senior U.S. officials over the deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Every time I see Israeli and US officials ratcheting up their "Frequent Government Flying Miles" between Tel Aviv and DC, I get very nervous.

The US has stated certain provisions of the deal which the Iranian officials have denied agreeing to, which has to make this phase of negotiations particularly awkward.

The Israeli government wants the deal to go nowhere, and will probably be pulling out all the stops to guarantee that it cannot go forward. Or, perhaps, the US in telling the world that Iran has agreed to inspection of ALL its military installations (which it has not) has already scotched the deal outright, which may have been the objective all along; to appear to be the voice of sweet reasonableness, only to tack on something at the end of negotiations to which the Iranian delegation cannot agree at all.

Without this deal, the Middle East may be in for a particularly bloody summer this year.

Adelson’s Anti-BDS Event Links Money To Action

The “secret” Vegas weekend focused on planning for, and funding, a campaign to kill BDS in its academic cradle.

With U.S. billionaires both funding and setting up its top down strategy with Israeli-inspired organizations on American campuses, Israel’s successful invasion of U.S. institutions takes another major step toward “occupying” American institutions.

Four days after the Salon posting appeared, The New York Times buried two paragraphs about the Vegas event inside a longer story which featured the success Israel was enjoying in gaining anti-BDS support in state legislatures in South Carolina and Illinois.

This campaign against American supporters of Palestinian freedom, was prompted by the alarmed awareness among Israeli leaders, and their U.S. allies, that the BDS movement is rapidly gaining ground.

A Rapprochement Or Just Wishful Thinking?

Iranian people have no problem with a rapprochement with the United States...…?Iran could prove to be a powerful strategic partner to the United States, as long as its independence and regional influence are not threatened.

While Mr. Obama had, realistically speaking, no better alternative in choosing the timing for his administration’s foreign policy reorientation, a meaningful follow-through to implement his vision after his term in office expires would need a new Chief Executive with similar convictions; and, as things appear now, that prospect seems somewhat in doubt.

The current jockeying by potential candidates for the 2016 presidential elections is a perfect example of how true national interests are sacrificed for the sake of personal gains.

Diplomats: EU has Israel sanctions ready, and Uncle Sam may not be able to help

Israel wishes to delay the signing of a nuclear deal between world powers and Iran, but not solely because such an agreement would be dangerous to the Jewish State.

The concern is that immediately following such an agreement, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will become the UN Security Council's and European Union's top priority, and the international community will be freed up to deal with the party it sees as responsible for the stagnation in the peace process - Israel.

This is the widely-held assumption in off-the-record conversations among diplomatic sources in New York and in Washington. "A diplomatic attack against Israel is expected soon that will surprise even the pessimists in Jerusalem," a senior Western diplomat told The Jerusalem Post's Hebrew-language sister publication, Ma'ariv. "In the Security Council, in western capitals and at EU headquarters, they are just waiting for the Iran deal to be signed and for it to be approved by the American Congress."

BEX ALERT - Iran Spends Billions to Prop Up Assad

Iran is spending billions of dollars a year to prop up the Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, according to the U.N.'s envoy to Syria and other outside experts. These estimates are far higher than what the Barack Obama administration, busy negotiating a nuclear deal with the Tehran government, has implied Iran spends on its policy to destabilize the Middle East.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unable to derail the P5+1 because they cannot find any evidence Iran is building nuclear weapons while the world marvels at the hypocrisy of pretending Israel doesn't have any, the new rationale for killing the P5+1 agreement is that Iran will spend the sanctions-relief money in ways Israel does not approve of, such as supporting Syria against the US/Israeli overthrow!

Riyadh’s increasingly destructive war in Yemen has sparked overripe discussion in Western capitals about Iran’s use of “proxies” to subvert otherwise “legitimate” Middle Eastern governments. Iran's envoy to the U.N. nuclear agency declined on Thursday to commit to nuclear transparency measures that were part of a preliminary deal Tehran and world powers reached in April, deflecting U.S. demands to implement such provisions.

The United States urged Iran to implement the so-called Additional Protocol, which allows more intrusive access to Iranian sites, and Code 3.1, which requires from Iran early notification of the construction of any new nuclear facilities.

Iran sends 15,000 fighters to Syria

Iran has sent 15,000 fighters to Syria to reverse recent battlefield setbacks for Syrian government troops and wants to achieve results by the end of the month, a Lebanese political source has told The Daily Star.

The militia force, made up of Iranians, Iraqis and Afghanis, the source said, have arrived in the Damascus region and in the coastal province of Latakia.

The source said the fighters are expected to spearhead an effort to seize areas of Idlib province, where the regime has suffered a string of defeats at the hands of a rebel-jihadi coalition.

Gen. Qasem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s elite Quds force, was in Latakia this week to shore up preparations for the campaign, the source said.

Soleimani promised a “surprise” from Tehran and Damascus.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Demands in US-Iran Nuclear Talks as Political Kabuki Theater

In the final phase of the negotiations with Iran, the US-led international coalition is still seeking Iran’s agreement to allow the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to visit any military facilities it deems suspicious and to interview a selected list of Iranian nuclear scientists.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This was NEVER agreed upon as part of the original inspection protocol, and has been added to move these talks into an utter train wreck, where Iran cannot, and will not, agree to these specifications.

What the US is doing here is attempt to make the US appear ""sweetly reasonable", while making the Iranian government to appear to be the bad guys for not agreeing to something which they never agreed to in the first place.

These talks are engineered to fail, and when 30 June comes around, I would almost be willing to bet that they will not succeed.

Israelis and Saudis Reveal Secret Talks to Thwart Iran

Among those who follow the Middle East closely, it's been an open secret that Israel and Saudi Arabia have a common interest in thwarting Iran. But until Thursday, actual diplomacy between the two was never officially acknowledged. Saudi Arabia still doesn't recognize Israel's right to exist. Israel has yet to accept a Saudi-initiated peace offer to create a Palestinian state.

It was not a typical Washington think-tank event. No questions were taken from the audience. After an introduction, there was a speech in Arabic from Anwar Majed Eshki, a retired Saudi general and ex-adviser to Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the former Saudi ambassador to the U.S. Then Dore Gold, a former Israeli ambassador to the United Nations who is slotted to be the next director general of Israel's foreign ministry, gave a speech in English.

While these men represent countries that have been historic enemies, their message was identical: Iran is trying to take over the Middle East and it must be stopped.

Never Mind FIFA, How about a Crackdown on the Banksters?

The belated focus of American and British authorities on the alleged wrongdoings at FIFA can be readily seen as both ludicrous and laughable when we compare that with the absolute dearth of interest by these same authorities in applying law enforcement where it ought to be applied – on the Wall Street and City of London banksters.

Both the timing of the US-launched corruption probe – in the week of FIFA’s annual conference and leadership election – plus the way that senior American and British officials, not to mention the publicity of Western news media, have weighed-in to rebuke FIFA suggests that it is all part of a coordinated political campaign authored at the highest level of government. That, in turn, suggests that there is an ulterior political agenda behind the supposed criminal crackdown on FIFA, and that the ulterior agenda is the Western objective to undermine Russia.

Israel Is A Discredit To America — Paul Craig Roberts

Jeffrey St. Clair, one of the few remaining Western journalists with a moral conscience, describes the latest Israeli horror to which we are all accomplices.

The Israel Lobby tries to prevent reports and criticism of Israel’s crimes against the Palestinians by branding every critic of every policy of the extreme right-wing Israeli government an “anti-semite.” In other words, if you object to Israeli armed forces shooting down Palestinian children in the streets and then bombing the funerals of the kids the Israelis have already murdered, you hate Jews and are an anti-Semite.

The success that the Israel Lobby has enjoyed in imposing this twisted logic on Congress, the White House, the media, the universities and the insouciant American public is astonishing. As a consequence, Americans are no longer answerable to Christian morality but to the evil that the Israel Lobby represents.

Russia and China mock divide and rule

Divide et impera? It’s not working. And it’s bound to fail miserably.

As it stands, what we do know is that 2015 will be a hair-raising year in myriad aspects... we all still remain under the sign of a fearful, dangerous, rampantly irrational Empire of Chaos.

Russia could outmaneuver Western financial markets by cutting them off from its wealth of oil and natural gas. The markets would inevitably collapse – uncontrolled chaos for the Empire of Chaos (or “controlled chaos”, in Putin’s own words).

In a different vein of the “soft beds of the East” seducing Marcus Aurelius, the silky splendors of chic Beijing offer a glimpse of an extremely self-assured emerging power. After all, Europe is nothing but a catalogue of multiple sclerosis and Japan is under its sixth recession in 20 years.

US preparing for war with China and Russia to save the banks

“There’s a general recognition growing that the driving force for this war is the utter collapse of the entire Western banking system,” Billington said.

“And the view from London and Washington and New York is we have to go to war, we cannot allow this BRICS alliance between Russia, China, India, South Africa and most of Latin America creating new financial institutions to take away our ability to loot the resources in the developing sector,” Billington noted.

Decrepit US Resorts to the Viagra of Militarism

The increasing deployment of American navy, warplanes and missile systems – under the guise of «protecting its partners» – is fuelling militarization of the territorial disputes.

US deteriorating relations with China are the latest manifestation of America’s self-declared «manifest destiny» to behave like a global hegemon.

The increasing deployment of American navy, warplanes and missile systems – under the guise of «protecting its partners» – is fuelling militarization of the territorial disputes.

China, for its part, says that its own military presence in the region is to protect its voluminous trade routes. Beijing has pointedly refused to cease its maritime development projects, mainly land reclamation in shoals and reefs that it says are strictly within its territorial limits.

Countdown: Obama has 1 month to strike deal with Iran

In recent days, Republicans have highlighted the continuing imprisonment of three Americans in Iran, as The Washington Post's Jason Rezaian.

House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) office issued a statement on Thursday urging the administration to tie the final nuclear deal with their release.

“Negotiations with Iran — and any good nuclear deal — should include the safe return of all of them,” the statement said.

But the Obama administration doesn’t just have to worry about Congress: it also faces pressure from within the “P5+1” — which consists of the U.S., the United Kingdom, China, France, and Russia plus Germany.

Iran nuclear talks very constructive: Kerry

US Secretary of State John Kerry says the latest round of nuclear talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif have been ‘very constructive’ while top Iranian negotiator Abbas Araqchi says some gaps still remain.

Kerry made the remarks following talks with his Iranian counterpart over Tehran’s nuclear program in the Swiss city of Geneva late on Saturday.

According to reports, US State Department officials also described the negotiations as most substantive and toughest since a mutual understanding between Tehran and the six world powers was reached in Switzerland back in April.

POETS’ TALK — Where do we fit in in ‘the march of Time’?

The gatekeepers have, I believe, crucified American poetry upon a cross erected by “language poets,” “identity poets,” “politically correct poets,” “apolitical poets” and general nincompoops -- Gary Corseri

The Arts have fallen into an era of petite academicism, crass commercialism and manipulated populism. So, our challenges are many; they are harsh; let us hope they will be invigorating!

Poets who do not see, who do not confront what is out there and around them-- are cowards! Which needn’t mean that that is ALL we must do! But… we must see and confront what surrounds us at some point! Not always…, but when it’s right to do so. To advocate that we always do it is asking us to be propagandists.José M. Tirado

Palestine, Israel and Dissent

It seems that the United States just can’t prevent itself from protecting Apartheid Israel. Just when it seemed that even U.S. government opinion was turning, the U.S. decided to arrest several members of FIFA (The Fédération Internationale de Football Association; English: International Federation of Association Football or International Federation of Soccer) the day before FIFA was to vote on expelling Israel.

US Cries FIFA Foul to Penalize Russia

The melodrama had the air of a politically driven media campaign for maximum publicity.

?But the real goal of the full-frontal assault on FIFA, which involved dawn raids at a five-star hotel in Swiss city Zurich, seems more to do with American political purpose to damage Russia’s World Cup plans. That objective has to be seen in the context of Washington’s aim to isolate and destabilize Moscow in an ongoing geopolitical battle that is currently centred on Ukraine.

Russia’s World Cup plans appear to be now similarly targeted for an ulterior political agenda. Within hours of the US-launched arrests of FIFA officials in Zurich, the football federation was obliged to state that the forthcoming World Cup in Russia was not in jeopardy of cancellation over related claims of wrongdoing in the selection of that venue.

A Critique of US “Grand Strategy toward China”

If one were to propose a realistic and reasonable ‘US Grand Strategy toward China’ one would have to start by shedding all the false assumptions and bellicose proposals that have been put forth by the CFR and the authors of the Report under review.

The US should not attempt to block China’s growth and expansion; it should assist and share in its ascendancy, especially in the face of great global climate and energy challenges. Washington is much more likely to strengthen its Asian – Pacific partnership and succeed in its diplomacy if it replaced its military posturing with robust economic growth.

Turning Lebanon into Gaza — Israel’s hole card against Iran deal?

Many observers have expressed concern that Israel could sabotage the Iran deal: fomenting a war with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, and soon, so that the Israel lobby flips out in the U.S. and Iran and the United States are suddenly at dagger points rather than at the table.

The Iran Talks Game Changer: An Israeli-Hezbollah War?

In spite of AIPAC, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Saudis and some of its GCC allies having done everything they could to kill the pending nuclear deal with Iran, they have failed. The negotiations are on track. Many opinion polls show that a comfortable majority of Americans support President Barack Obama's diplomacy with Iran.

To beat ISIS, kick out US-led coalition

It is time to cut these losses and bring some heavyweights into this battle against extremism.

Baghdad and Washington are pointing fingers, each accusing the other of being asleep on the job.

An objective look at US interests in the region paint an entirely different picture. The Americans seek to maintain absolute hegemony in the Mideast, even as they exit costly military occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Their primary interests are 1) access to low cost oil and gas, 2) propping up Israel, and more recently, 3) undermining Russian (and Chinese) influence in the region.

The ‘war’ word is being increasingly heard as Europe, Russia, China and the United States adopt provocative postures

IS the world going mad? Military posturing is quietly reaching new extremes in Europe, the Mediterranean and the South China Sea. And the provocative bluster has just reached new heights.

The source was anonymous. But the mouthpiece has a measure of credibility. High profile military analyst and former US Naval War College lecturer John Schindler tweeted last week: “Said a senior NATO (non-US) GOFO to me today: ‘We’ll probably be at war this summer. If we’re lucky it won’t be nuclear.’ Let that sink in.”

Netanyahu demands ‘up to $45 bn’ in US military aid to deter Iran, Gulf States

Israel is hoping to receive $4.2-$4.5 billion a year in military aid from the United States for ten years, to counter the threat from Iran and oil-rich Middle East states that have been re-arming rapidly, a senior Israeli source has told Defense News

Under a 10-year deal signed in 2007, Israel receives just over $3 billion a year in American aid, with stipulations that over 70 percent of that aid has to be spent buying US military hardware. An extension of that agreement, running to 2028, was principally agreed on by Barack Obama during a visit to Israel in 2013, but according to Haaretz, talks on its terms have been “preliminary and unofficial.”

"Subterfuge of all kinds" going on to sabotage nuclear deal with Iran

As attempts are underway to “sabotage” a nuclear deal between Iran and the global powers by “subterfuge of all kinds”, former US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is “the rational player in the room” thanks to his anti-war stance towards Tehran, a geopolitical commentator says.

Gates said earlier on Monday that war on Iran would not be an alternative if the ongoing nuclear negotiations fail for any reason.

“Gates is being more rational than a lot of folks” in the US political system, said Dean Henderson, the author of Big Oil & Their Bankers In The Persian Gulf, in a Monday phone interview with Press TV.

He added that those behind the US banking system would benefit form a “neo-colonial setup” in the Middle East with Israel and the Arab countries in power, that is why they would make attempts to hamper a deal between Tehran and the P5+1 – the US, Britain, Russia, France, China, and Germany.

A Poem On War

Beyond the count of years I walked the world,

and my children built their shrines to me.

Decades and centuries and millennia pass,

and still the shrines are built.

Temples insubstantial to men,

clear to my eyes.

No foundations or walls or roofs,

but shrines nonetheless.

Holy ground, consecrated

Today, every day, somewhere in the world,

the earth is prepared for my coming.

My hallowed grounds are everywhere.

In valleys and on mountains,

on broad plains and deep in hidden passes,

in deserts, on city streets.

Nameless, unremembered places.

Jeb Bush, James Baker, and the Pro-Israel Mega-Donors

What is the issue, that gets little attention in the mainstream, is that the presidential candidates find it necessary to pay obeisance to ultra-powerful individuals who represent the interests of Israel, not the United States.

What exists now is a “passionate attachment” to a foreign country on steroids that undercuts American security.

For while the mainstream media is analyzing in microscopic detail Jeb’s stumbling over his Iraq war response, it naturally ignores that third rail in contemporary American politics, the power of the Israel lobby.
