Lest we forget: Bygone lights shining on our dark present

"Nostalgia, a hybrid of nostos, the Greek words for "return", and algos, which means "suffering”, is often based on myths and false memories and, as such, is rarely a helpful illuminator on the present or guide to the future.

"But occasionally one stumbles on hard evidence of days long forgotten in the Arab world, or blurred and distorted by dysfunctional, primitive traditions and/or the venomous ideas of malicious forces among us, which shine a light on the darkness in which we currently live.

"The photographs below are snippets of the Arab world as it was once upon a time.

Ohio House Passes Bill Banning Abortion After Heartbeat Begins

The pro-life movement won a significant victory in Ohio this week, where the state House passed a bill that would ban abortions on unborn babies after a heartbeat is detected in the womb.
State House Bill 258 passed in a 58-35 vote and now moves to the state Senate for consideration. Should the state Senate approve the bill, most abortions in Ohio would be effectively banned.

Can’t fix STUPID: Alyssa Milano’s bright idea to put Georgians out of work because Democrats lost there is ALL FAIL (12 Pics)

Nothing says sane, rational, and thoughtful like wanting to put a bunch of people out of work in a state you don’t even live in because you don’t like who won an election there. We’re not entirely sure why Alyssa Milano thought it was wise to complain about people actually having jobs in the entertainment industry in Georgia but here we are …

The Left’s Linguistic War

One of the key lessons of the 2018 elections is that the Left is waging – and winning – a linguistic war. The Left claims and occupies more and more linguistic ground with each new fight.Defense of the Founding Fathers becomes defense of white, racist, slaveowners. Defense of American identity becomes an act of white male domination.

GOP chairman plans to subpoena Comey, Lynch to testify before next Congress

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) is planning to subpoena former FBI Director James Comey and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch in an effort to get them to testify before Democrats take over control of the panel in January, The Hill has learned.

Goodlatte on Friday provided notice to Rep. Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), the top Democrat on the panel and presumed incoming chairman, of his plans to subpoena the former officials. Both officials served under former President Obama, while Comey briefly served under President Trump before being fired in May 2017.

The GOP chairman plans to subpoena the pair to discuss their decisionmaking during the 2016 presidential race, a committee aide confirmed. Republicans on the panel are seeking to have Comey appear for a deposition on Nov. 29 and for Lynch to testify Dec. 5.

California Fires Keep Getting Worse

How and why exactly do California’s fires keep getting worse? Over the last 10 years or so we’ve seen a trend with California’s wildfires where that trend has shown us that the fires continue to get more destructive. Last year during the fire season we saw close to 5,000 homes destroyed and now this year we’re seeing nearly 6,500 homes destroyed...

THE POLITICAL REBELLION GATHERS MOMENTUM

When was the last time a monopoly or quasi-monopoly was broken up? A generation ago, or was it two generations ago?

The Ruling Class that wants us to love our servitude incites us to seek divisions: between red and blue, left and right, progressive and conservative, and so on. The Ruling Class in the mainstream media, in Washington D.C. and in Silicon Valley are experts at manipulating language and terminology to divide and conquer.

But beneath the superficial red-blue divide they are hawking, a broad-based political rebellion against the Oligarchy and their Ruling Class nomenklatura is gathering momentum. People left, right and center are awakening to two painfully obvious realities:

1. the political-social-economic system no longer works for the bottom 95%

2. the system is intrinsically unfair--rigged to benefit the few at the expense of the many.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The key question here, is what happens when vote after vote changes nothing, and people get angry and despairing that any real change can happen through their peaceful, political process?!?

THAT ... is what this country's monied and elite need to be asking themselves right now.

"I Can Not Recall": The Reclamation of George W. Bush Is an American Tragedy

By Maj. Danny Sjursen
The whole charade plays best as farce. Absurdity incarnate. The sight of former President George W. Bush receiving a medal from Democrat Joe Biden – once an ardent opponent of Bush’s war policy – in Philadelphia for “his work with veterans,” on Veterans Day no less, induced nothing short of a gag from this veteran of two Bush wars – Iraq and Afghanistan.

George W. Bush, after all, led the U.S. military – to which I’ve dedicated my adult life – into two ill-advised perpetual wars, one of which was objectively illegal and immoral. In that war, in Iraq, some 7,000 American troops – including three of mine – were killed fighting in an unwinnable quagmire. Furthermore, though it slipped the attention of an American citizenry best known for its provincial inwardness, at least 250,000 Iraqis – mostly civilians – were killed. In a just world this would be labeled what it is – a war crime – but in this era of American hegemony, the populace simply sighs with apathy.

BREAKING: Dem Stacey Abrams Ends Challenge to Brian Kemp – But Won’t Concede!

Democrat Stacey Abrams says she can’t win the Georgia governor’s race, effectively ending her challenge to Republican Brian Kemp.

Her speech Friday effectively puts a stop to the contest. The final result had been in doubt for 10 days after the election.

Abrams made her announcement just after 5 p.m. That was the earliest state officials could certify the results after a court-ordered review of absentee, provisional and other uncounted ballots. Abrams’ campaign had contended there were potentially enough uncounted votes to force a runoff.

Abrams stressed as she spoke: “This is not a speech of concession.”

Stacey Abrams mulls asking a court to order a second vote in Georgia governor’s race

Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams is considering asking a court to intervene in her race against Republican Brian Kemp and order an extraordinary second round of voting in response to charges of election irregularities.

The long-shot strategy, first reported by the Associated Press, comes as Georgia elections officials appear to be poised to certify Kemp as the winner in the hard-fought contest as early as Friday.

If Abrams moves forward, she would rely on a provision in Georgia law that has never been utilized in such a high-profile contest. It allows losing candidates to challenge results based on “misconduct, fraud or irregularities .?.?. sufficient to change or place in doubt the results.” The decision could ultimately fall to the state’s Supreme Court.

Giuliani Dishes on Mueller Questions: 'Unnecessary' and 'Possible Traps'

Some of the more than two dozen questions special counsel Robert Mueller sent to President Donald Trump to answer are problematic in a legal sense, Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani said Thursday.

Giuliani spoke with The Washington Post about the list of questions for which Trump could submit answers as soon as Friday.

"There are some that create more issues for us legally than others," Giuliani told the Post. The former New York City Mayor called some of the questions "unnecessary" and others "possible traps."

"We might consider some as irrelevant," Giuliani added.

Trump and his legal team met for more than four hours on Monday and an additional hour-and-a-half Wednesday night, according to the Post.

Study: 80% of Americans Believe Political Correctness Is a Problem

Except among a tiny minority of far-left Americans, political correctness (P.C.) is deeply unpopular. Some 80 percent of people said they viewed P.C. excess as a problem.

That’s according to a fascinating survey conducted by More in Common, an international research initiative. The researchers asked respondents dozens of questions about race, immigration, sexism, free speech, and other hot button issues, and then sorted them into seven different categories: progressive activists, traditional liberals, passive liberals, the apathetic, moderates, traditional conservatives, and devoted conservatives. The two conservative categories constituted 25 percent of the total; the progressives, just 8 percent.

Everyone else, according to the researchers, form an “exhausted majority” whose views are not so different from one another, even across racial and gender lines.

Amnesty strips Aung San Suu Kyi of its highest honor; Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize should be next

Amnesty International announced it would strip Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi of its top award, saying it was “profoundly dismayed” at her failure to acknowledge the full scale of atrocities against the Rohingya people.

Before you are tempted to view this as some kind of principled, honorable move on Amnesty’s part, stop yourself and check out its dubious government and corporate funding sources, its selective support for the concept of free speech and the fact that it spends quite a bit of time soft-pedaling Western imperialism and its atrocities while magnifying the wrongdoings of the West’s adversaries.

Amnesty’s attempt to win plaudits for its decision to revoke Suu Kyi’s award has come after mounting calls for the controversial figure’s 1991 Nobel Peace Prize to be stripped from her. Nearly half a million people have signed a Change.org petition calling for the Nobel Committee to take back the award.

Double middle finger…to EU? Top Romanian official slams union, makes ‘offensive gestures’

Things got obscene at the Romanian parliament as its deputy speaker vowed to resist pressure from the EU and go on with a controversial judiciary reform. The politician reinforced his statement by producing a double middle finger.

Do Loan Sharks Run America?

Everyone knows America is bankrupt, $21 trillion in debt, adding a trillion a year to that figure under Trump’s voodoo economics. Yet, America is on not just a massive military buildup, but expanding its global military presence at levels not seen since the end of World War II.

Is America controlled by an international cabal of “loan sharks?”

Everyone knows America’s military is beaten, worn down, “in over its head” in Afghanistan, defeated time and time again every time America has entered a battlefield, every conflict since Korea and Vietnam.
***
America under Trump is escalating military confrontations with Russia and China. Global arms races are ramping up as former conventions limiting weapons are tossed aside and even the militarization of outer space is “on the table.”
