More Civilians Killed in US Airstrikes in Eastern Syria

Local sources in Southeastern Deir Ezzur reported on Monday that a number of civilians have been killed or wounded in the US-led collation air raids.
The sources said that the fighter jets pounded the village of al-Bahara on the Eastern bank of the Euphrates River, killing five civilians and wounding several more.

Local sources confirmed on Saturday that the warplanes pounded the villages of al-Bahara, killing 30 civilians, mostly women and children.

The sources further said that the death toll would likely increase as some of the injured are in critical conditions.

No Taxpayers’ Nickel is Spared in Washington’s Military Adventures Worldwide

At the beginning of 2017, the chief of US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) General Raymond Thomas while speaking in front of one of the Senate committees announced that:
We operate and fight in every corner of the world. Rather than a mere ‘break-glass-in-case-of-war’ force, we are now proactively engaged across the ‘battle space’ of the Geographic Combatant Commands… providing key integrating and enabling capabilities to support their campaigns and operations.
According the director of the Arms and Security Project at the Center for International Policy, William Hartung most Americans would be amazed to learn that US Special Operations Forces have been deployed to three quarters of the nations on the planet. Furthermore, according to this researcher there is little or no transparency as to what they are doing in these countries and whether their efforts are promoting security or provoking further tension and conflict.

Russia commemorates anniversary of lifting Siege of Leningrad. Putin visits his brother's grave

No more than 800,000 residents were remaining in the city by the end of the blockade out of the 3 million that had lived in Leningrad and its suburbs. According to various estimates, from 641,000 to 1 million Leningraders died as a result of hunger, bombings and artillery shelling. Almost 34,000 people were wounded, 716,000 residents were left without shelter and 1.7 million were evacuated across the Road of Life and by air in 1941-1942... On January 27, Russia marks the 74th anniversary since Soviet troops completely lifted the Nazi blockade of Leningrad (currently St. Petersburg), ending the 872-day siege of the city. In St. Petersburg, about 30,000 people, including WWII veterans and senior officials, attended memorial events at the city’s Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery, where 420,000 civilians and 50,000 soldiers of the Leningrad Front are buried in 186 mass graves. Syria: Peace Proposal by US, Saudi Arabia Not Even Worth Ink

The Syrian ambassador to the United Nations and head of the government delegation to intra-Syrian peace talks has strongly rejected a proposal offered by some countries, including the US and Saudi Arabia, for the resolution of the Syrian crisis, saying the so-called peace plan is “not even worth the ink.”
***
"Every word and sentence of this unofficial paper is rejected. And it is not worth the ink that it is printed on because the people will not and do not accept solutions which come down on parachutes or on the backs of tanks,” Ja’afari said.

Furthermore, he blasted the five countries and told reporters that the proposal was “tantamount to a black comedy.”

“All of them have participated in the bloodshed of the Syrian people,” he said of the five nations, denouncing Washington as the creator, financial supporter and protector of the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group.

Beware the Last Apartheid Regime in the World

The Trump White House should hold its head in shame. Instead of reversing President Donald Trump’s universally-condemned decision to declare Al-Quds as Israel’s new capital, it sent this week Vice President Mike Pence to the Israeli Knesset to give a speech loudly praising “the miracle of Israel,” and presenting America’s support for Israel as a question of siding with good over evil.

Far from it, America has sided with evil over good and the desperate attempt by Pence to focus heavily on defending President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem Al-Quds as Israel’s capital, citing biblical stories about the city, and suggesting that King David’s declaration of it as the capital millennia ago still applies, won’t change the irrefutable fact that this is still an apartheid regime condemned and isolated the world over.

Not surprising, Pence used his speech to also appease Tel Aviv by attacking the Iran nuclear deal, terming the pact as a “disaster,” and accusing Iran of being a brutal dictatorship that seeks to dominate the entire Arab world. He vowed the US would “no longer certify” the deal, leading to applause from the Israeli MPs.

Lest the pro-Israel US vice president forgets, the country he criticized is the same country that helped Iraq and Syria defeat the terrorist group of ISIL, Al-Qaeda and their affiliates in the Levant.>>>

Trump To Netanyahu: Palestinians 'Disrespected' Pence And Stand To Lose Aid

“When they disrespected us a week ago by not allowing our great vice president to see them and we give them hundreds of millions of dollars in aid and support, tremendous numbers, numbers that nobody understands, that money’s on the table, that money’s not going to them unless they sit down and negotiate peace,” Trump said Thursday at a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the World Economic Summit in Davos, Switzerland.

Palestinians declined to meet with Pence during his visit to the region, blaming Trump’s decision last month to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.>>>

Over 650 Syrian civilians killed in US-led airstrikes in 40 months: SOHR

A monitoring group says more than 600 children have lost their lives ever since the US-led coalition purportedly fighting the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group started its aerial assaults against residential areas across Syria back in September 2014.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that 2,815 people, including 655 minors and 481 women, were killed in US-led aerial attacks against civilian areas in the conflict-plagued Arab country over the past 40 months.

The London-based watchdog said the aerial assaults were conducted in the provinces of Hasakah, Raqqah, Aleppo, Idlib and Dayr al-Zawr, noting that the remains of 19 victims still await identification.

It added that the US-led coalition continues to carry out airstrikes across Syria despite the fact that the militants are controlling only pockets of Syrian territories following their humiliating defeats in the northern and eastern parts of the country.

Rex Tillerson Rewrites Syria, Ultimately Blames Iran, Essentially Declares War

Without telling you explicitly, and with no authority from Congress as required by the Constitution, the U.S. has invaded and occupied Syria with no intention to leave

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson presented remarks on The Way Forward for the United States Regarding Syria to the Hoover Institute at Stanford on January 17.

To start, Tillerson proved his mettle in lying for the U.S. Empire by blaming Syrian president Bashar al-Assad for the rise of ISIS. First Tillerson implied Assad had the nerve to fight a war and win and then he says that’s why ISIS moved in:

In December of 2016, the key city of Aleppo fell to the regime after a brutal campaign that essentially destroyed that city, which had a population over two million people before the war. This symbolized the regime’s ruthless determination to regain momentum in the conflict. It also led to – Assad to wrongly think that he would maintain power without addressing the Syrian regime’s – the Syrian people’s legitimate grievances.”

The civil war in Syria was horrific in and of itself. But Syria was thrown into an even greater state of turmoil with the emergence of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.>>>

Russia: US Attempts to Blame Syrian Gov't for Chemical Attacks Unfounded

According to the Russian military, Washington has failed to fulfill the obligations on the destruction of chemical weapons, preserving at least 10% of their arsenal operational.

"Following our commitments under the Chemical Weapons Convention, Russia has eliminated its entire chemical warfare agents arsenal early, while the United States, using false pretexts, has at first halted and then completely stopped fulfilling its commitments due to a 'lack of financing,' still keeping around 10 percent of its arsenal in a combat ready condition," the ministry added

Donald Trump’s First Year and the Illusion of Choice

The striking thing about Trump’s first twelve months compared to the Obama administration is not how different his foreign policies have been, but how similar.

January 20 marks one year since Donald Trump officially became the 45th President of the United States. His supporters, boosted by comments the Donald made on the campaign trail, hoped his Presidency would mark a shift away from a neocon/liberal interventionist foreign policy. In fact we’ve just had more of the same.

The old French saying ‘plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose (the more things change the more they stay the same)’ springs readily to mind. As indeed does the late George Carlin’s comment about Americans only having the “illusion of choice” on the things that really matter.

GOP CANDIDATE FOR PENNSYLVANIA SPECIAL ELECTION IS A FORMER ABU GHRAIB INTERROGATION CONSULTANT

RICK SACCONE, THE GOP nominee in Pennsylvania’s 18th congressional district, is a former intelligence support consultant for the U.S. Army at the infamous Abu Ghraib prison. He has written extensively in support of interrogation tactics widely condemned by human rights experts as torture.

Over the years, drawing upon his experience in Iraq, Saccone has promoted waterboarding, stress positions, sleep deprivation, as well as threatening prisoners with execution, dogs, and electrocution, as necessary tactics for obtaining information from detainees.

On Thursday, President Donald Trump appeared in North Fayette Township in Pennsylvania to promote Saccone’s candidacy. Despite the district going to Trump by some 20 points in November, the GOP is at risk of losing it to Democrat Conor Lamb.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am having a Jean-Luc Picard double face-palm, at warp speed, upon reading this.

Holy Heironymous Bosch, Pennsyvania GOP, could you do NO BETTER than selecting a candidate who obviously enjoyed torturing prisoners of war at Abu Ghraib so much, that he still briskly advocates these practices today?!?

Who the hell were the deaf, dumb, and blind people on your selection committee who thought this guy was THE perfectly best choice for the job, and that no other candidate could possibly be as great for the job as this guy?!?

It has been proven, by mountains of scientific evidence, that torture rarely produces actionable intelligence; it simply gets the tortured individual to say what he thinks his torturers want him to say to get the torture to stop.

There was a German interrogator, during World War Two, whose name was Hans Scharff, and he had a brilliant record of extracting information from American and British prisoners without ever once using violence.

Hans Scharff

In fact, after the war, the US military so respected his tactics that he was invited to teach seminars in interrogation to American, using his techniques.

Sure as hell looks like US foreign policy has moved from that kind of treatment of Prisoners of War to something just to the right of Atilla the Hun: and Saccone was complicit in this at Abu Ghraib, completely violating the Geneva Accords, to which the US government is a signatory!!

To the Republicans in Pennsylvania who got this guy nominated, congratulations; because of what this man has done, and what people now know about him, you have probably just thrown this election to his Democratic opponent.

Trump's Secretary Of State Pops Off; Dying North Koreans A Sign US Diplomatic Strategy Works

Dying North Koreans a sign US diplomatic strategy works, Tillerson says (*without so much as a flinch)

Signs of starvation and death in North Korea indicate that US diplomatic strategy works fine, says the secretary of state. The objective now is not to let Pyongyang evoke sympathy around the world for its sanctions-induced woes.

The unexpectedly-revealing description of what Rex Tillerson apparently considers successful diplomacy came from his own mouth on Wednesday as he was speaking at Stanford University with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

“The Japanese… have had over a 100 North Korean fishing boats that have drifted into Japanese waters. Two-thirds of the people on those boats have died,” Tillerson said, citing the Japanese delegation that attended a conference in Vancouver, Canada, earlier this week.

Trump Nominee Wrote One of Infamous 'Torture Memos'

A number of President Donald Trump’s judicial nominations have collapsed in recent days after the candidates’ utter lack of qualifications was revealed, signaling (at a minimum) poor vetting on the part of the administration. The most stunning failure was Matthew Peterson, who became an internet sensation and meme generator when he could not answer even basic questions about U.S. law. Also in the candidates’ graveyard is Jeff Mateer, who in 2015 stated that transgender children are part of “Satan’s plan.” Mateer also prophesied that same-sex marriage would lead to bestiality and lamented the banning by some states of harmful and bogus “conversion therapies” for gay and lesbian persons.

One additional problematic candidate is scheduled for a hearing this month: Howard C. Nielson>>>

Who Are the Leading State Sponsors of Terrorism?

The reality is that terrorism, defined by the United Nations as “criminal acts intended or calculated to provoke a state of terror in the general public,” is most employed at the state level by the United States and its allies Israel and Saudi Arabia, not by Iran. All have used violence directed against civilians in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon, and all three have supported organizations that fit the definition of terrorists. Iran may indeed be guilty of actions that much of the world disapproves of, but it is not the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism as has been alleged.

US Prepares for Forcible Entry Operations in Remote Theaters of War

Professionals study logistics, amateurs study tactics!

The facts and events summed up above are not front-page stories. They don’t tell much separately but tell a lot when put together and systematized. They lead to believe the United States is urgently preparing for a truly big war waged far away from its borders. The US military is sized, organized, and globally postured to fight it. A doctrine of expanding forces is not as straightforward as producing more fighters and weapon systems. Nothing is possible without logistics. That’s what is given the highest priority as the preparations are intensified.

If Trump is too stupid to know that the United States actually overthrew a democratically elected government in Iran, Benjamin Netanyahu is not. How Donald Trump Learned to Love War in 2017

The president promised to deliver peace. But in his first year, he expanded every war he inherited.

President Trump has maintained or expanded the wars that he inherited from his predecessor.

As Jennifer Wilson and I pointed out in an appropriately titled column in August, “Donald Trump Is Dropping Bombs at Unprecedented Levels.” Within eight months of assuming office, Trump — with the announcement of six “precision aistrikes” in Libya — had bombed every country that former President Barack Obama had in eight years. One month after that, the United States surpassed the 26,172 bombs that had been dropped in 2016. Through the end of December 2017, Trump had authorized more airstrikes in Somalia in one year (33), than George W. Bush and Obama had since the United States first began intervening there in early 2007 (30).

US, Israel sign pact to counter ‘Iranian threat’ – White House official

On Thursday, Israeli Channel 10 reported that Washington and Tel Aviv signed a strategy and policy document on Tehran, following discussions between Israeli and US intelligence and defense agencies on December 12. The talks were said to have been headed by the US national security adviser, H. R. McMaster and his Israeli counterpart Meir Ben-Shabbat.

Channel 10 reported that the document is designed to translate into “steps on the ground” the ideas laid out by US President Donald Trump in his October 13 speech on Iran, in which he all but ditched the Obama-negotiated Iranian nuclear deal, according to unnamed sources. Trump stopped short of breaching the accord, but “decertified” his support for the agreement, leaving its fate in the hands of Congress.

Specifically, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and president Trump agreed behind closed doors to set up joint teams to handle what they both believe amounts to an ‘Iranian threat.’

Four separate teams would be reportedly be set up to curtail Iranian power. The first would deal with “Iranian activity in Syria and Tehran’s support for the Hezbollah terror organization.” Another division will oversee “diplomatic and intelligence activities” aimed to confront Iran’s nuclear weapon “ambitions.”

Apparently, declarations of victory over ISIL by both Iraq and Syria, along with Iran and Russia, are not having an impact on US military policy in the region, according to Mattis, who insists that “the war is not over.” Which isn’t to say that the US is determined to keep fighting a war against ISIL, as such, but rather that there’s definitely going to be a war against somebody in those countries – and that somebody could be anybody. Mattis in particular has been keen to talk up the idea of an “ISIL 2.0” emerging in areas ISIL has been expelled from.

Mattis’ comments are very interesting in the context of other Pentagon statements, which have insisted that US troops would stay in Iraq and Syria long after the ISIL war has ended. This had long been assumed to be just a quiet, permanent garrisoning of the two countries, particularly controversial in Syria since they openly don’t welcome a US military presence.

Instead, Mattis seems to be presenting this as not just an open-ended deployment, but an open-ended war against an ever-changing collection of enemies. In Syria in particular, this is likely to mean a shift away from the terror proxies (created and backed up by the US allies!) toward pro-government forces and their Iranian-Russian allies. In Iraq, however, the continuation of the war is likely to be very much like the last US occupation of Iraq, fighting with any and all forces that are aligned in opposition to Washington’s occupying regime itself.

And the faulty justifications for the occupation, however, are far from blurred:

- The Iraqi Parliament is on record as being against the US-led military occupation of their country. Moreover, most Iraqis resent Americans occupying their country and the Trump administration’s requests to do it forever by maintaining illegal military bases in their country.

The Trump Peace Plan: Israeli Forces Raid West Bank, Detain More Palestinians In The Early Hours Of New Year

Israeli forces carried out raids in several areas across the West Bank during the early hours of the New Year, arresting 26 Palestinians, including a member of Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC).

Israeli forces arrested Nasser Abd al-Jawad, a Hamas member of the PLC, after they stormed his home in Salfit City at dawn Monday, Safa news agency reported.

More than 10 youths were also arrested in the city of Tulkarm in the West Bank.

Meanwhile, Israeli troops stormed a number of Palestinian houses, and deliberately caused damage to them.

The Palestinian ministry of public health in Gaza has also announced that the Israeli occupation forces use unknown gas bombs which caused cases of stress, convulsion, vomiting, coughing and rapid heartbeat among the Palestinian civilians. It stressed that the Zionist forces fire bullets directly on the Palestinian protestors.

The Israeli regime forces use brutal and excessive force against the civilians and the rescue teams as well as the medics, according to the Palestinian ministry which called for denouncing the racist actions of the Israeli authorities.

The Lincoln Putsch: America's Bolshevik Revolution

Union General Franz Sigel had been a leader in the communist Revolution of 1848, a revolution fought to destroy the individual state governments of Germany, and forciby unite them under an all-powerful central, socialist government. Thanks to some inept leadership, part of it provided by the young Sigel, that revolution failed and Sigel, along with thousands of other "forty-eighters," fled Europe for America, bringing their revolutionary socialist ideas with them.

Carl Shurz was another forty-eighter, who had met Karl Marx at the Democratic Club in Cologne. Schurz later went on to deliver the votes of 300,000 German immigrants to Lincoln in 1860. He was rewarded with an appointment as ambassador to Spain.

Lincoln: America's Highjacker

Notice the sides of Lincoln’s throne, above? Those bundles of sticks are an ancient Roman contrivance called a fasces, from which we get the word fascism.

Lincoln is still a much-revered figure to millions of ignorant Americans who were programmed in government schools. But an exciting new trend has begun: more Americans are learning that, like Russians and Chinese, we were lied to in school. The most destructive fraud promulgated by American schools is that Abraham Lincoln was a great president. In truth, as you’ll learn here, Lincoln was the most monstrous, ruthless, destructive president in our history.

Americans are completely ignorant of the affinity that Abraham Lincoln had for Karl Marx and his Communist system. As Americans banish the Confederate flag, those who think Lincoln was a hero are as ignorant of our history as the average Russian citizen is, of his.

After 9/11, America went on a rampage around the world. It fabricated intelligence and unleased thousands of armed gangsters, kidnapping innocent victims from around the world, labeling them terrorist, torturing some for years then quietly releasing most with a lame apology and a few thousand dollars in their pockets. What isn’t told is the tens of thousands who didn’t survive kidnapping and rendition, buried in mass graves in Poland, Ethiopia, Libya, Romania and a dozen other nations, exactly like the mass graves excavated after World War II, victims of what is called the “holocaust.” Add to these two million Iraqi dead, mostly children, victims of sanctions, 30,000 Syrian dead from “bombing errors” and the tens of thousands of mistaken drone killings in 45 nations as well and the actions of the “freedom loving” United States begin to deeply parallel those of histories most brutal regimes.

New UN Sanctions Against N. Korea to Impact Civilians, Not Govt

The latest round of UN sanctions against North Korea, imposed last week, see a substantial limitation on processed oil products, like diesel fuel, and a 24 month order for all North Koreans working overseas to return to the country.

The sanctions were unanimous among the UN Security Council, including rare support from China and Russia. North Korea was harshly critical all the same, terming it an “act of war.”

Still, experts say the new sanctions, like so many UN sanctions, are going to do a lot more harm to the average civilian in the destitute country than they will the government itself. The limitations on fuel, for instance, mean what fuel they can import will be given to priority consumers like the military, while more civilian uses will be termed “non-essential.”

This has been a long-standing problem with international sanctions worldwide.small>>>>

In 1936, the Arab population of Palestine launched a violent uprising. The Nazi persecution in Germany drove many Jews to Palestine (including my own family), and the local Arabs saw their country slipping away from under their feet. They started to react violently. They called it the Great Rebellion, the British talked of "disturbances" and we called it "the events".

Groups of young Arabs attacked Jewish and British vehicles on the roads. When caught, some of them were sent by the British courts to the gallows. When the Arab attacks did not stop, some right-wing Zionists started a campaign of "retaliation" and shot at Arab vehicles.

World Beware US Frozen Cold War Mentality

Russia and China rightly condemned the new US National Security Strategy (NSS) signed off this week by President Donald Trump. Moscow and Beijing rebuked the 68-page document’s “imperialist character” and “Cold War mentality”.

Purportedly setting out Trump’s “vision” of the world and strategic challenges facing the US, the national security document is rife with contradictions and falsehoods, as well as the usual cringe-making American delusions over its proclaimed virtues and greatness.

However, of serious note is an abiding theme targeting Russia and China as “rivals” who, it is claimed, are “malign actors” trying to undermine America as a world power.

There is little doubt from reading the latest NSS that Washington under Trump is no different from past administrations in its fundamentally hostile view of the world, and in particular a world where Russia and China are perceived as existential enemies.

You see, growing up during the Cold War as I did, the media narrative and group talk about Russia and their people went something like this. The Russians are Communists, amoral people, don’t believe in God, don’t value human life the way we do, their military and nuclear weapons are poised to preemptively destroy America because they hate our freedom, capitalism and everything we stand for. This was the ever-present drumbeat of the American media machine. This propaganda narrative, as I now know, was designed to keep Americans in fear and never to question the billions upon billions of hard earned taxpayers dollars going into our Nation’s military buildup and ever growing arsenal of nuclear weapons. We had to be superior in order to win if a war was to ever occur with Russia. And, according to the media, this was just around the corner and was just a matter of time. What do we make of Trump’s national security speech? First of all, it is the military/security complex’s speech, and it is inconsistent with Trump’s intention of normalizing relations with Russia.

My conclusion is that Trump has surrendered to the real rulers of America—the powerful interest groups such as the military/security complex, the Israel Lobby, the environmental polluters, Wall Street and the banks “too big to fail.”

America is a country in which despite the hopes flyover America had in Trump, an oligarchy rules. The American people, regardless of who they elect, have no voice, no input, no representation.

'No moral failures': IDF finds no wrongdoing in death of disabled Palestinian as UN urges probe

By staggering majorities, both houses of Congress just passed an almost $700 billion defense bill, more money than even President Trump had requested and he’s already happily signed it.

Trump's Failed and Costly Middle East Policies

***
The Saudi war in Yemen remains a humanitarian catastrophe and our relationship with the House of Saud remains corrupt. But the war in Yemen was already an American-abetted disaster under Obama, and the Trump White House has at least called for Riyadh to lift its Yemen embargo and seen the new king promise some mild social and economic reforms.

Douthat’s summary here is mostly wrong or misleading. Trump has outlined a very aggressive Iran policy aimed at “rolling back” Iranian influence throughout the region. U.S. forces in Syria are expected to remain there indefinitely, and administration officials are defining part of their mission as “not allowing” Iran and its proxies to have a presence in Syria. This is “slow-walking” his hawkish instincts? Unlike his predecessor, Trump has ordered military attacks on Syrian government targets, and U.S. forces have repeatedly struck pro-regime forces inside Syria when they came too close to U.S. proxies. If he isn’t interested in fighting “all bad actors” at once, he does seem intent on picking fights with Iran wherever possible regardless of the potential costs. Maybe that hostility to Iran isn’t surprising when his administration is overflowing with Iran hawks, but it shouldn’t be minimized or ignored.

The attack, one of the deadliest for civilians in the coalition’s relentless air war against Iranian-backed rebels in Yemen, helped persuade the Obama administration in December to block the sale of precision-guided munitions to the Saudi military until it addresses problems with its targeting.

Jerusalem Decision Rubber-Stamps 70 Years of Israeli Violations

For Arabs and Muslims worldwide, Jerusalem has become a powerful symbol representing a century of betrayal by the West

President Donald Trump’s decision to formally recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital was irresponsible and dangerous for more reasons than I can count. Let me outline just a few of the principle concerns.

While we have all grown weary of hearing the overused mantra “this is the end of the peace process,” Trump’s decision may, in fact, be the nail in the coffin for any negotiated solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In the first place, there is no peace process. It has been replaced, instead, by a breath-holding exercise with Israelis and Palestinians waiting for Trump aides to cook up “the deal of the century.” It is presumed that when “the deal” is presented negotiations will begin.

The unilateral American recognition of Jerusalem not only prejudges one of the conflicts most sensitive issues, it does so in Israel’s favor.>>>

The Malady of Excessive Interventionism

***
The post-Cold War era has seen a continuation of a long global trend toward greater peace and stability, lower rates of conflict, and zero great power wars. More peace and diminishing threats have merely enhanced the remarkable security already enjoyed by the United States thanks to its geographic isolation, weak neighbors, unparalleled economic and military power, and its nuclear deterrent.

But America doesn’t act as if it is safe. Instead, we have a hyper-interventionist foreign policy. Over the last century, according to the Rand Corporation, “there was only one brief period – the four years immediately after U.S. withdrawal from Vietnam – during which the United States did not engage in any interventions abroad.” Indeed, “the number and scale of U.S. military interventions rose rapidly in the aftermath of the Cold War, just as [rates of global] conflict began to subside.”

According to data from the Congressional Research Service, the United States has engaged in more military interventions in the past 28 years than it had in the previous 190 years of its existence.*>>>
