North Korea says did not hack Sony, wants joint probe with U.S.

North Korea said U.S. accusations that it was involved in a cyberattack on Sony Pictures were "groundless slander" and that it was wanted a joint investigation into the incident with the United States.

An unnamed spokesman of the North's foreign ministry said there would be "grave consequences" if Washington refused to agree to the joint probe and continued to accuse Pyongyang, the official KCNA news agency reported on Saturday.

On Friday, President Barack Obama blamed North Korea for the devastating cyberattack, which led to the Hollywood studio cancelling "The Interview", a comedy on the fictional assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Obama: Hollywood weak, Boston stong

President Obama said Friday that the U.S. will retaliate against North Korea for its cyberattack against Sony Pictures, and he thinks the movie studio “made a mistake” by canceling the release of a movie in response to the hacking.

“They caused a lot of damage, and we will respond,” Mr. Obama said of the North Koreans at a White House news conference. “We will respond in a place and time and manner that we choose.”

FBI formally blames North Korea in Sony hack

The FBI said Friday that North Korea is responsible for the cyberattack on Sony Pictures that led the studio to cancel the release of a movie.

Confirming what government officials were saying privately for days, the FBI announced that is months-long investigation concluded that North Korea was behind the attack, based on technical similarities to previous attacks.

Think North Korea hacked Sony? Think about this

Unlike any hack attributed to North Korea in the past

North Korea has been blamed for a string of hacks in the past, and it’s generally accepted that the country has the capability to hack and attack companies. But no previous attack attributed to North Korea—or any nation-state—has been so public and so noisy. In the past, attacks happened, North Korea was suspected, and then sometimes the country was later blamed. It rarely said anything, except for an initial denial. This time around, the hacker group has posted messages online taunting Sony and telling the FBI they cannot be caught. Early on, they were also interacting with reporters.

Obama signs Russia sanctions bill, no plans to use it for now

US President Barack Obama has signed a bill that will allow the White House to levy further economic sanctions on Russia over Ukraine, though the Administration has said it has no immediate plans to introduce them.

Now they are in Combat. Obama will activate the new sanctions against Russia at the moment he thinks they will cause the most damage.

Congress once again insists on spending $120 MILLION on new tanks - despite the army insisting that it doesn't want them

The Ohio-based companies that provide the U.S. Army with Abrams tanks, once again proved to be one of the big winners when congress passed a $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill this week.

The new defense spending bill will include $120 million for the 70-ton tanks – even though the army has repeatedly said it doesn't need them.

It is the third year in a row that congress has disregarded the army's expressed wish to suspend tank building and upgrades.

US Targeting Hundreds of Millions of Russian Civilians

White House officials are openly expressing happiness with their siege/war tactics that they say are throwing Russia into an economic collapse and are, as a scholar defending the siege notes, “hurting the Russian public’s ability to buy food or heat homes”. This eagerness to starve and freeze children is particularly relevant given the recent publicity of the US’s tactics of starving and freezing innocent detainees as well as people claimed to be “suspects”.

U.S. Declares (Currency) War On Russia

U.S. economic terrorism (i.e. the One Bank’s economic terrorism) has hit a new extreme this week. This crime syndicate has launched what can be termed nothing less than an all-out effort to destroy the economy of Russia.

Its modus operandi is, once again, currency manipulation. What is the quickest/easiest way to destroy an economy? Drive the value of its currency as close to zero as possible. The effect of such a manipulated “devaluation” is a massive explosion in inflation. And the effect of that is to make all Russians much poorer.

The economic destruction caused by this economic terrorism affects Russians, and the Russian economy on a percentage-for-percentage basis. Each percentage lower that the banksters drive the ruble with their criminal manipulation makes Russians, and the Russian economy 1% poorer.

Russia Completely Jammed The U.S. Navy In The Black Sea And Could Have Subsequently Blown Them Away! [Validated]

As the Russian jet approached the US vessel, the electronic device disabled all radars, control circuits, systems, information transmission, etc. on board the US destroyer. In other words, the all-powerful Aegis system, now hooked up – or about to be – with the defense systems installed on NATO’s most modern ships was shut down, as turning off the TV set with the remote control.

The Russian Su-24 then simulated a missile attack against the USS Donald Cook, which was left literally deaf and blind. As if carrying out a training exercise, the Russian aircraft – unarmed – repeated the same maneuver 12 times before flying away.

After that, the 4th generation destroyer immediately set sail towards a port in Romania.

REPORTS OF US AIRFORCE CARGO PLANES DELIVERING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF ARMS TO ISIL/ISIS

US has delivered weapons to the terrorist group ISIS (Daesh, in Arabic) in the Iraqi city of Tal Afar, west of the capital of the northwestern province of Nineveh, Mosul, which has become since last June a bastion these takfiri gangs, according to an Iraqi parliamentary.

Boeing touts operational QF-16 UAV

Boeing is working to convert F-16 fighter aircraft into fully-fledged unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for potential use by US armed forces, IHS Jane's was told on 7 May.

The company has already converted the first six of 126 Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcons into optionally piloted QF-16 target drones for the US Air Force (USAF), but is looking to add improved datalinks to enable the QF-16 to fly as high and as far as conventional UAVs. Iraq torture claims: New allegations against British soldiers to go to the International Criminal Court

Hundreds of new cases accusing British soldiers of abusing – in many cases torturing – Iraqi men, women and children, aged from 13 to 101, are to be considered by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Britain is already under scrutiny for alleged war crimes committed by its forces in Iraq. The ICC is currently examining a dossier of claims presented by lawyers and human rights campaigners earlier this year that could lead to a full investigation.

The fresh details come on the eve of the publication of an official report into allegations that British soldiers mistreated and unlawfully killed Iraqis in 2004. The report, to be released on Wednesday, is expected to criticise the abuse of Iraqi prisoners captured after a battle. A number of "warning letters" have been sent to individuals believed to face criticism in the report.

US to give Israel $350mn for Iron Dome

The US Senate has approved a multi-billion-dollar military spending bill that includes $350 million for Israel’s Iron Dome missile system.

The Senate passed the bill on Friday by a 89-11 vote.

The bill was sent to the White House for President Barack Obama's signature.

The 2015 defense authorization bill also authorized $521.3 billion for Defense Department operations, and about $64 billion for overseas military operations.

The House of Representatives last week approved the National Defense Authorization Act by a 300-119 vote.

Five billion dollars are allocated for the fight against the ISIL terrorist group. The money should be spent for the training and arming of the so-called moderate rebels in Syria for two years and for the training and assisting of Iraqi and Kurdish forces.

Earlier this month, US Vice President Joe Biden announced that the Obama administration had provided Israel with more than $17 billion in military aid since 2008.

We’re Not Exceptional, We’re Isolated

In the United States we have 5 percent of humanity living in a society dedicated to war in an unprecedented manner, putting over $1 trillion every year into war and preparations for war. Going to the other extreme you have a country like Costa Rica that abolished its military and thus spends $0 on war. Most nations of the world are much closer to Costa Rica than to the United States. Most nations of the world spend a small fraction of what the United States spends on militarism (in real numbers or per capita). If the United States were to reduce its military spending to the global average or mean of all other countries, suddenly it would become difficult for people in the United States to talk about war as “human nature,” and going that last little bit to complete abolition wouldn’t look so hard.

But isn’t the other 95 percent of humanity human now?

‘Suicide Drones’ and the Spoils of War: Israeli arms manufacturers look to cash in on the war in Gaza

Three weeks after Israel’s latest assault on the Gaza Strip concluded, Israeli military and political leaders attended a conference next to Ben Gurion Airport to sell the successes of what Israel dubbed Operation Protective Edge, which killed more than 2,200 Palestinians including 521 children. The annual conference, named “Israel Unmanned Systems 2014,” took place in business-as-usual atmosphere — even with a complimentary beer keg. But the fare was anything but humdrum. Among the offerings were suicide drones, “loitering munitions” that need to explode; a 16-year-old showing off high-tech robots designed by fellow high schoolers and future drone makers; and “premature” weapons, armaments that have not been fully tested before they are used on a live Palestinian population. Such is Israel the military power.

Obama under fire for castigating Bush-era torture program and claiming moral high ground all while his administration kills 'thousands of innocents' during droning of terrorism suspects

President Barack Obama is under fire this week for the way his White House has excoriated the previous administration for employing tactics it would categorize as torture all the while launching drone strikes on terrorism suspects abroad.

The enhanced interrogation techniques used by the CIA during the George W. Bush administration on 39 detainees resulted in just one death, Obama's critics have pointed out. Drone strikes conducted by the current occupant of the White House have killed more than 2,400 people.

After claiming all week that the release of a Senate Intelligence Committee report detailing the brutal tactics employed by the Bush administration to elicit information from terrorists was necessary in order for the U.S. to reassert it's 'moral authority,' the White House was forced on Friday to state on record that it doesn't believe its drone policy erodes the moral high ground on which it thinks it stands when it comes to human rights.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This man is seriously, and dangerously, out of touch with the carnage his drone strike policy has caused, and the damage it has done to world perception of American jurisprudence.

Torture is absolutely wrong, and the only people who defend it are sick, twisted pieces of work who probably belong in an institution.

But extrajudicial assassinations are completely contrary to both the spirit, and literal interpretations, of the Constitution, and Bill of Rights. They are un-American in the extreme, in a society where presumption of innocence is the basis upon which all suspected criminals are to be judged by a jury of their peers.

It is an interesting psychological insight into our President that this is his preferred method of killing people he deems "dangerous".

Senator: Bush misled nation in run-up to Iraq war

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee released new information on Thursday that he claims is evidence that the Bush administration misled the nation in the run-up to the war in Iraq.

In a speech on the Senate floor, retiring Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., outlined a 2003 CIA cable that warns George W. Bush administration officials against making references to claims that Mohammad Atta - the man who led the 9/11 hijackers - met with an Iraqi intelligence officer in the Czech Republic before the Sept. 11, 2011, attacks. Levin claims Bush officials used the unconfirmed meeting to link Iraq to 9/11 to justify the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

Webmaster's Commentary:

All wars are started with lies. The people of the initiating nation do not want to go to war, as it is dirty, hard, dangerous, and ill-paid. No ruler dares come out and say, "Attack this other land because I want them attacked." Nobody would listen, or would demand a just share of the loot. Thus, the leaders who out of their own greed and lust for conquest must deceive the populace into thinking war is their only option, with frauds such as the Gleiwitz incident, torpedoes in the Gulf of Tonkin, Spanish mines in Havana harbor, or 9-11.

New evidence Bush misled Americans into Iraq war – senator

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee has released new information claiming the Bush administration misled the American people in the run-up to the war in Iraq.

House Republican leaders touted dents to the Internal Revenue Service budget and Environmental Protection Agency staffing levels, language that stalls some of President Obama’s plans to battle climate change, and the chance to fight the White House’s deportation amnesty next year as reasons to get behind the massive 1,600-page bill.

The great lie of our time

In all International Relations (IR) classrooms throughout the English-speaking world, something called the democratic peace theory is taught. The theory holds that countries are less likely to go to war if they are democracies, and that installing democratic regimes is therefore the path to peace and security in the world. Paradoxically, the theory is more often applied to justify wars than to end them.

Democratic peace theory is a large part of the underlying rhetoric behind the United States’ commitment to “democratization” in the world’s conflict zones, particularly the Middle East and the former Soviet Union. While the US supplies arms to dictatorships it falsely labels “democracies,” it works to overthrow governments that were actually democratically elected.

Hawaii under martial law was like ‘military dictatorship’ (1941-1944)

Islanders suffered under nearly three years of martial law from 1941-1944; so oppressive that it was later described by a federal judge as a “military dictatorship.” All manner of civilian liberties were replaced by oppressive military orders enforced by American soldiers.

The dark period of Hawaiian history began on December 7, 1941, with the massive surprise attack of Japanese bombers on the U.S. Naval Base Pearl Harbor. The air raid successfully sunk or grounded 18 ships and killed 2,403 Americans.

As the smoke billowed from the harbor, Lieutenant General Walter Short met with Territorial Governor Joseph Poindexter to convince him to declare martial law. Being coerced through tactics discussed below, Gov. Poindexter reluctantly ceded power to the military — temporarily, or so he thought.

NATO Prepositions Weapons in Poland for Attack on Russia

The lengthiest excerpt from the article that’s online is at NATO’s own site, the PR delivered straight from the horses’ mouth, http://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/natosource/russia-fears-prompt-na..., which posting there is certainly validation that the article represents NATO’s position accurately, even if it does so in ‘appropriately’ vague terms. (Of course, that’s not “appropriate” for readers, but for NATO, which is the weapons-manufacturers’ trade-organization, that’s being served in this ‘news’ story.)

Webmaster's Commentary:

A NATO-led war against Russia would be utterly disastrous for the West; and if you have a difficult time of wrapping your head around that, just look at the incredible "victory" NATO has wrested from the rebels in Afghanistan, 13 years on. Their "contribution" to the US war effort here has been one very sick joke.

And please don't get me started on the aftermath of their "victory" in Libya, with the ouster of Gaddafi, which has only exacerbated the instability here, to the point where various African countries are tag-teaming their military to control the insurgents. The future of Libya is still very much up in the air.

To put it plainly, NATO and the US do not have the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a war with Russia; and this is what makes the military confrontation scenario so scary.

And in terms of Russia's manufacturing and purchasing of war equipment, although they are not spending as much as the US government, the Russians are getting a lot more bang for their buck than does the US.

A war against Russia would be the last, desperate act of a criminally insane Western leadership.

US meddling to blame for ‘all Arab world sufferings’ – Sudan president

The bloody conflicts in Iraq, Syria and Libya are the result of the interference by the US, which wants to gain control over the rich natural resources of those countries, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir told RT.

“The people in Sudan believe that the since the fall of the Soviet Union [in 1991], injustice and oppression has prevailed around the globe as the US became the sole hegemon and began running things with impunity in many regions, including ours,” Bashir said.

In his interview with RT’s Arabic Channel, the Sudanese president labeled Washington’s policies in Middle East and North Africa as “harmful and destructive.”

“Just look at what’s now happening in Iraq and how it spread to Syria. All the suffering that is going in the Arab world is the work of the US,” he said.

House Chooses New Cold War With Russia

Last week the US House voted overwhelmingly in favor of an anti-Russia resolution so full of war propaganda that it rivals the rhetoric from chilliest era of the Cold War. Ironically, much of the bill condemns Russia for doing exactly what the US government has been doing for years in Syria and Ukraine!

For example, one of the reasons to condemn Russia in the resolution is the claim that Russia is imposing economic sanctions on Ukraine. But how many rounds of sanctions has US government imposed on Russia for much of the past year? I guess sanctions are only bad when used by countries Washington doesn't like.

Watching the watchmen: US shield to protect drones from 'spoofing' cyber-attacks

Pentagon-sponsored engineers have developed a system to shield unmanned aerial vehicles from cyber-attacks. It sounds the alert if a drone starts doing something that it is not supposed to do.

Called System-Aware Secure Sentinel, the new system detects “illogical behavior” compared to how the aircraft normally operates.

“Detections can serve to initiate automated recovery actions and alert operators of the attack,” said Barry Horowitz, a systems and information engineer at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, in a statement.

Rand Paul Declares a Non-War War

Senator Rand Paul wants Congress to Declare war on ISIS. Some, like Bruce Fein, are willing to ignore the UN Charter and the Kellogg Briand Pact, and write as if a war would be legal if Congress would just declare it. And, of course, Fein is right that in theory a Congress that was in any way held accountable by the public would be preferable to lawless presidents waging war where they like.

FLASHBACK - The War Prayer by Mark Twain

" Next the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception." From Twain's "The Mysterious Stranger."

Webmaster's Commentary:

FBI charges Saudi-born naval engineer over plans to sink aircraft carrier

A Naval engineer is facing federal charges for allegedly giving an undercover FBI agent secret documents on a new aircraft carrier being built in Norfolk, Va.

Saudi-born Mostafa Ahmed Awwad, 35, of Yorktown, Va., was arrested Friday on an FBI affidavit claiming he planned to use a dead-drop location along a secluded hiking trail to hand off secret information about the Gerald R. Fall 1941: Pearl Harbor and The Wars of Corporate America

Myth: The US was forced to declare war on Japan after a totally unexpected Japanese attack on the American naval base in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. On account of Japan’s alliance with Nazi Germany, this aggression automatically brought the US into the war against Germany.

Reality: The Roosevelt administration had been eager for some time to wage war against Japan and sought to unleash such a war by means of the institution of an oil embargo and other provocations. Having deciphered Japanese codes, Washington knew a Japanese fleet was on its way to Pearl Harbor, but welcomed the attack since a Japanese aggression would make it possible to “sell” the war to the overwhelmingly anti-war American public.

Pearl Harbor: A Successful War Lie

British Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s fervent hope for years was that Japan would attack the United States. This would permit the United States (not legally, but politically) to fully enter the war in Europe, as its president wanted to do, as opposed to merely providing weaponry, as it had been doing. On April 28, 1941, Churchill wrote a secret directive to his war cabinet:

“It may be taken as almost certain that the entry of Japan into the war would be followed by the immediate entry of the United States on our side.”

On May 11, 1941, Robert Menzies, the prime minister of Australia, met with Roosevelt and found him “a little jealous” of Churchill’s place in the center of the war. While Roosevelt’s cabinet all wanted the United States to enter the war, Menzies found that Roosevelt,

Obama's Defense Nominee: Here Comes Trouble

Ashton Carter is the typical Beltway apparatchik – profiting from the revolving door between the military, heavy industry and academia.

He advised Goldman Sachs on military technology.

He was an actor in the dismantling of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, signed by Bill Clinton, which allowed a collection of Dr. Strangeloves to go rampant on computer simulated lab tests of nuclear weapons coupled with underground tests in the Nevada desert (plutonium blown up with explosives, for instance).

He was and remains a key actor in the ever evolving “policy” of demonization of Russia.

Way back in 1996, he was totally paranoid about both Iraq and Iran non-existent WMDs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have looked at this man's bio, which in "Washington-ese", is very impressive.

But what I do not see is any actual military experience indicating that he has ever, in his life, participated in real combat.

As someone with family which has served, and some which do currently serve in our military, the next time a Secretary of Defense is chosen, I want that person to have known real combat, from an in-the-trenches perspective.

I want them to know the cost of putting people's lives on the line, so this is not an abstraction to them.

And I want them to be keenly aware of choices and decisions this government can make which can get the geopolitical objectives won through peaceful means.

Marines to train in Los Angeles for urban combat

Dozens of Marines will be raiding buildings and shooting paintballs at each other in downtown Los Angeles to prepare troops for urban combat.

Capt. Brian Block said Thursday that the raids at several undisclosed locations in the city will be off limits to the public.

Block says the trainings are part of a two-week military exercise that starts Friday and involves about 2,400 Marines and Sailors from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

He says the Los Angeles portion will take place over a couple of days next week. The other exercises will take place at military bases in California, at a site outside Las Vegas and at an undisclosed location in Arizona.

Rep. Kinzinger Blasts Russia: ‘This Aggression Will Not Stand’

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R., Ill.) had a few harsh words for Russian president Vladimir Putin while speaking on the House floor Thursday.

“Russia’s continuing political, military, and economic aggression against Ukraine, as well as Georgia and Moldova, must be addressed,” Kinzinger said. “In short, this aggression will not stand.”

Kinzinger stressed the importance of the territorial integrity and sovereignty for the nations that have been pressured by Russia.

We The People remember the lies about Saddam's nuclear weapons that tricked us into the second invasion of Iraq.

America Steps Up Investment In Global Cluster Bomb Trade

Global investments in the manufacture of cluster bombs and related munitions rose over the past year, despite the existence of an international convention against the use or production of these weapons. More than half of the institutions involved in those investments are based in the United States.

From 2011 to 2014, an estimated 151 financial institutions invested at least $27 billion in companies that produce weapons considered by rights groups to be prohibited by the Convention on Cluster Munitions, which entered into effect in 2010. This new estimate, from PAX, a Dutch watchdog group, constitutes a $3 billion increase from just last year.

While it is unclear what exactly is driving that increase, rights groups have reported on the recent use of cluster munitions in both eastern Ukraine and, particularly, Syria.

These bombs are not being made in order to NOT use them.

And of course, cluster munitions do a spectacular job of killing infants and toddlers, who become curious about the packages, because they are colored just like food ration packages.

A-10 Warthog retirement debated after replacement’s role in ‘friendly fire’ deaths

The five fatalities occurred on June 9, when a B-1B strategic bomber — a planned replacement for the A-10 — dropped a 500-pound bomb squarely onto U.S. soldiers protecting a helicopter landing zone.

An investigation showed the flight crew lacked basic knowledge about the bomber’s sensors, which did not have the capability to detect friendly infrared strobes worn by soldiers that night. Not knowing the sensors’ limitations and not seeing any strobes, the crew unleashed the deadly bomb.

Because the B-1B is billed by Air Force top brass as one of the replacements for the war-tested and infantry-loved Warthog, those trying to save it increasingly are citing the tragedy.
