AOC Smacks Down 'How We Gonna Pay For It' With Pentagon Receipts

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez brought more light and heat to a Congressional Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday.

And more importantly, she connected the issue at hand with why those who wonder "how can we pay for" The Green New Deal and Medicare for All when there is plenty of money in excess profits for defense contractors.

AOC pointed out one example: non-vehicular clutch discs, which cost $32.00 to manufacture and for which the Pentagon pays $1443.00. That's a 4436% profit.

AOC asked the Pentagon contractor, TransDigm CEO Kevin Stein, "Are you aware how many doses of insulin we could get for that?"

"...for the cost of your price-gouging of the public on a non-vehicular clutch disk alone I could have sent 21 kids to college. I could have sent 18 toddlers to free preschool for a year, in the most expensive city in America."

Russian Military Spending: Moscow Gets More Bang For Its Buck Than Bloated Pentagon

Ask yourself: Do we really know how much our adversaries spend on their military, and what they are getting for their money? Russia, for example, presents a glaring problem for academic and policy circles alike. Most comparisons are done in current U.S. dollars based on prevailing exchange rates, making Russia’s economy seem the size of South Korea’s.This approach is useless for comparing defense spending, or the country’s purchasing power. Yet, it is used frequently to argue that despite a large military modernization program, and a sizable conventional and nuclear deterrent, Moscow is a paper tiger. As a consequence, the debate on relative military power and expectations of the future military balance is terribly warped by a low-information environment.

Riyadh submits letter to UN Security Council denouncing Iran and Houthis

Saudi Arabia submitted on Wednesday a letter to the United Nations Security Council, in which it held Iran and the Yemeni Houthi group responsible for targeting their oil facilities on Tuesday.

The letter was handed over by the Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Abdallah Al-Mouallimi, according to Saudi TV channel Al Arabiya.

The letter included “Saudi Arabia’s holding of Iran and the Houthi militias it supports fully responsible for Tuesday’s attack on the kingdom’s oil facilities.”

According to the same source, a joint message was sent from Saudi Arabia and the UAE to the UN Security Council and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, on the attack and sabotage operation that occurred last Sunday against four ships in the international sea off the UAE’s territorial sea and coasts.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF in fact the Houthis actually did this damage to these ships (and of course, there is zero corroboration from surveillance camera footage), it means that they have become a lot more tough, and media-saavy than Saudi Arabia ever thought they could.

But my question is, why in the name of heaven would the Iranians do this, when they knew that there well could be one "mother of all repercussions", militarily, from Saudi Arabia; Israel; and the US?!?

The short answer is, they wouldn't. And if Iranians actually bombed these ships, they would be pieces of floating rubble by now.

After India province, Islamic State proclaims a new province in Pakistan

The group calling itself the Islamic State has announced the establishment of a new overseas province in Pakistan, just days after proclaiming another new overseas province in northern India. Until recently, the Islamic State’s operations in Asia were conducted under the banner of the Islamic State – Khorasan Province, or IS-KP. The shadowy group was founded in early 2015 and was led by former Taliban warlords who pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the spiritual leader and self-proclaimed emir of the Islamic State. Since that time, at least two of IS-KP’s leaders have been killed by United States forces, while the group has been engaged in a war against rival militant groups in Afghanistan and Pakistan, notably the Taliban.

Webmaster's Commentary:

India has been inviting this world of hurt upon themselves, for not giving a fair and free referendum on Kashmir to those who live here.

And Pakistan?!? With as much free-falling corruption as this broken country endures, continually re-infecting its government, it is just as complicit in creating an atmosphere where this could happen.

Washington Heats Up Its Cold War In The Arctic

US Secretary of State Pompeo continues to travel the world, creating alarm, resentment and irritation almost everywhere. He maintained his lamentable reputation for crass rudeness by cancelling a meeting with Germany’s Chancellor Merkel on May 8 in order to go to Iraq, apparently to try to justify Washington’s despatch of nuclear-capable B-52H bombers and an aircraft carrier battle group to menace Iran.

As observed by Norbert Röttgen, head of Germany’s foreign affairs committee, “Even if there were unavoidable reasons for the cancellation, it unfortunately fits into the current climate in the relationship of the two governments.”

Why Everyone Who Counts Wants Julian Assange Dead

Below is a full video version of Collateral Murder, the 2007 war footage that was leaked in 2010 to Wikileaks by Chelsea (then Bradley) Manning. This version was posted to the Wikileaks YouTube channel with subtitles. It will only take about 15 minutes of your life to view it.

It's brutal to watch, but I challenge you to do it anyway. It shows not just murder, but a special kind of murder — murder from the safety of the air, murder by men with heavy machine guns slowly circling their targets in helicopters like hunters with shotguns who walk the edges of a trout pond, shooting at will, waiting, walking, then shooting again, till all the fish are dead.

From Boeing to E-Ring: Shanahan is Industry’s Man in the Pentagon

John McCain is looking down on Washington and he is definitely not smiling.

The late senator had very little in common with the anti-interventionist principles of this magazine, but in the brighter moments of his 35-year career in Congress, he was the Senate’s most vociferous watchdog of Pentagon waste and contractor malfeasance. His grilling of military brass in this area was legendary, and his willingness to dress down an E-Ring four star or civilian executive in front of the C-Span cameras makes today’s congressional slobbering before the military high-hats look pathetic, and sad.

Bernie Sanders Delivers Online Address: 'We Must Not Go to War With Iran'

Source: Common Dreams

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday came out forcefully against the Trump administration angling the United States into another costly and unnecessary war of choice in the Middle East—this time against Iran—delivering an online address in which he warned that any military action without approval from Congress would be an "unconstitutional and illegal" breach of office.

"Let me be as clear as I can be: a war with Iran would be an absolute disaster," said Sanders in the roughly six-minute speech. "Sixteen years ago, the United States committed one of the worst foreign policy blunders in the history of our country by attacking Iraq. That war was sold to the American people based on a series of lies about weapons of mass destruction. We should remember that one of the leading advocates for that war was John Bolton."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Bernie, Mike and I are with you one thousand percent on this issue, although there are other issues where we may not agree.

US issues security alert ordering non-emergency staff to depart Iraq

The US State Department has issued a security alert and ordered staff to evacuate Iraq amid escalating tensions with neighbouring Iran. The alert posted on the US embassy in Iraq today read: “The U.S. State Department has ordered the departure of non-emergency U.S. Government employees from Iraq, both at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and the U.S. Consulate in Erbil. Normal visa services at both posts will be temporarily suspended. The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to US citizens in Iraq.”

A US embassy spokesperson is reported by the Financial Times saying that US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, had taken the decision to withdraw because of “the increased threat stream we are seeing in Iraq”. The spokesperson declined to say how, when, or how many staff were leaving, citing security reasons.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let's take a look at a map, shall we?!?

Map: Iran/Iraq borders

(The Iran–Iraq boundary runs for 1,458 kilometers (over 900 miles, (plus or minus), from the Shatt al-Arab (known as Arvand Rud in Iran) waterway to the tripoint boundary with Turkey at the Kuh e-Dalanper. Although the boundary was first determined in 1639, certain disputes fester, particularly surrounding navigation on the Shatt al-Arab waterway."

IF the false flag is going to happen on land, rather than in the Persian Gulf, somewhere around this border area, would probably be the flash-point.

Even though Baghdad has explicitly stated that it will not allow Iraq to be used against Iran, how, militarily, can they actually prevent this?!?

We most probably have both American and Israel mercs, close to the border, waiting for word about causing the initial damage, to then be be blamed on Iran, and off we go.

Mr. President; I think I speak for my brother and sister Americans, when I say that this government's attempts to "lie us into war", as did your predecessor, President Bush, will demonstrate, that you have thoroughly outsourced US foreign policy in the Middle East to Tel Aviv; and to say "this is not a good thing", is tantamount to saying, "The Titanic hit a little bit of ice."

And yes, there are times when policy issues between the US and Israel do align; this, however, is not one of those times.

In the most peaceful, respectful way I can, I must caution you on starting a war with Iran; this will be another gigantic, quagmire, much as Afghanistan and Iraq, have been. And if Russia and China come in on Iran's side, as well they might, we are dealing with a war which could well go nuclear in a heartbeat.

The Media’s Shameful Handling of Bolton’s Iran Threat Claims Recalls the Run-up to the Iraq War

Media-savvy U.S. government officials, political operatives, and lawmakers and their staffs from all political parties and ideological persuasions have no doubt, throughout the history of our great country, duped a fair-minded but unwitting reporter into writing a juicy story in order to get a piece of information into the public bloodstream without their fingerprints on it.

This is, in large part, how the Bush administration sold the U.S. invasion of Iraq to the American people: Feeding knowingly bogus or unsubstantiated intelligence on Iraq’s (nonexistent) WMD programs to reporters, who then published it as fact, without much in the way of critical scrutiny.

Despite the lessons we’ve learned from that debacle, it’s happening again with regard to the Trump administration’s march toward war with Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, I would strongly caution you, regarding the expansion of any threat against Iran.

There are moments when I would particularly like to see John Bolton and Mike Pompeo move to Israel, and run for the Knesset; this moment ... is one of them.

I am quite certain that Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu is whispering in the ears of both men, convincing them that such a war will be easy, and quick, and won't be another quagmire for the US.

And President Trump, in your appointments of these men, you have demonstrated, painfully clearly, that you have outsourced US policy in the Middle East to Israel, and I would like to suggest, politely, that might not have been the most "America First!" people you should have chosen, as representatives of US foreign policy.

Not all of the fights into which Netanyahu would like the US military carry out for it, are frequently not fights which will do the country any measurable good.

An attack against Iran (where Russia and China, may well come to its aid), is not a smart move, sir. Iran has done absolutely nothing to harm us, except for taking payment for their oil in other than US dollars.

Please think about this, Mr. President: at this time, our military doesn't have the money; the weaponry; the troop strength or the manufacturing to enable it to successfully engage in a world war, where you have Russia and China working against us in combat, as well as Iran.

First assessment blames Iran for Middle East ship explosions, official says

An American military team assessing blasts that damaged four commercial ships off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sunday has blamed Iran or Iranian-backed proxies using explosive charges, a source told Fox News on Monday evening.

Each ship had a 5-to-10-foot hole in it, near or just below the water line, a U.S. official told The Associated Press. A Norwegian-flagged vessel, two Saudi oil tankers and a bunkering tanker flagged in Shariah, one of the UAE's seven emirates, all suffered similar damage Sunday.

The UAE asked the U.S. to help investigate the damage, which Gulf officials have characterized as sabotage. UAE's state media said Sunday there had been "no injuries or fatalities on board the vessels" and "no spillage of harmful chemicals or fuel."

The U.S. has warned ships that "Iran or its proxies" could be targeting maritime traffic in the region, and America has moved additional ships and aircraft into the region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, there is zero surveillance footage in any of these cases, but the US military has already accused Iran of this?!?

Anyone out there remember the firm accusation of President Bush, when he claimed that Iraq had "weapons of mass destruction"?!?

This accusation is on par with that; if the Iranians had really bombed these ships, with the intention of never having them seaworthy again, they would have left NONE of these ships as mildly damaged as they actually are, and would have zotted the heck out of them.

The Re-Opening Of The Swedish Assange Case Should Be Welcomed

Authored by Craig Murray,

That the Swedish investigation into the rape allegation against Julian Assange is being re-opened is something that ought to be welcomed. The alternative would be for this accusation to hang unresolved over Julian’s head forever. The Swedish prosecutors now need finally, as my father used to say, either to piss or get off the pot. They need to decide whether there is sufficient evidence to charge or not.

There is no reason for delay. The Swedish police have had seven years to investigate this case and all the evidence has been gathered and all statements taken – the last being the interview of Julian Assange in the Ecuadorean Embassy in 2017. Hopefully to review the evidence and decide whether to charge will not now be a lengthy procedure. It is worth noting, contrary to much misreporting, Julian Assange has never been charged with anything in Sweden.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF Assange is to leave the British prison in which he is now languishing, having him be in a Swedish courtroom may be profoundly less hazardous to his health; in an American jail, there is always, it appears, to be room for political assassinations.

If you don't believe me, just think of the murder of Whitey Bulger in a Federal jail last year.

Arms control a top issue at Russia-US talks Tuesday in Sochi

The state of arms control treaties between the United States and Russia is likely to feature prominently in the talks.

The U.S. unilaterally pulled out of a 1987 nuclear missile pact this year, accusing Russia of violations. Putin responded in kind, saying he was suspending Russia’s participation in the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty and accusing Washington of making false allegations.

Trump has said he wants to negotiate new arms control accords that reflect current conditions and to bring in other nations, notably China.

The U.S. president said after he and Putin spoke by phone last week they were considering a deal that would “get rid of some of the tremendous firepower that we have right now” and also include China.

Trump Denies Reports on US Plans to Deploy 120,000 Troops to Mideast

The US has already increased its military presence in the region amid growing tensions with Iran, sending an aircraft carrier strike group to the Persian Gulf. However, a recent New York Times report suggested that the military presence could expand to the level at the time of the Iraq invasion.

US President Donald Trump slammed the report about a possible deployment of 120,000 troops to the Middle East in order to counter Iran as "fake news" and expressed hope that such a plan won't be needed. At the same time, he said that he would "absolutely" send 120,000 troops more to the Middle East, or even more, if necessary.

"Would I do that? Absolutely. But we have not planned for that. Hopefully we're not going to have to plan for that. And if we did that, we'd send a hell of a lot more troops than that", Trump said.

Al Baghdadi: The US Couldn’t Wish for a Greater Ally

By 2013 the US-led proxy war on Syria had stalled. A staged chemical attack and threats of direct US military intervention were thwarted by Russian efforts to diplomatically resolve the impasse through the declaration and disposal of Syria's entire chemical weapons arsenal.

With US-backed militants having already reached the full extent of their gains on the battlefield and now facing incremental but inevitable defeat -- the US appeared to be out of time and out of options.

Then suddenly -- as if on cue -- Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, alleged leader of the so-called "Islamic State in Iraq and Syria" (ISIS), was resurrected after US claims he had died years early, and provided the US with the perfect pretext to militarily intervene in Syria anyway...

Feds Apologize After Veterans Affairs Removed Bible: ‘Will Not Be Bullied On This Issue’

Federal officials restored a Bible to a prisoner of war display at a veterans hospital and said it “will not be bullied” by an activist group that wants it removed.

Department of Veterans Affairs staff at the Manchester, New Hampshire, veterans hospital “temporarily removed the Bible from the display out of an abundance of caution” after receiving a complaint, the VA’s national headquarters said in a statement Tuesday.

“Following that removal, Manchester VAMC received an outpouring of complaints from Veterans and other stakeholders – many of whom dropped off Bibles at the facility – in protest of this action,” the VA said. “We apologize to the Veterans, families and other stakeholders who were offended by the facility’s incorrect removal of this Bible.”

The Bible is part of a display in the hospital’s lobby honoring prisoners of war and missing soldiers.

Trump administration gets war marching orders from Tel Aviv: American analyst

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s anti-Iran threats are nothing but “bombastic” comments stemming from the same war rhetoric already used by Washington against Libya, Syria and Iraq, which itself receives “war marching orders from Tel Aviv,” says an American political analyst.

Rodney Martin, a former congressional staffer based in Scottsdale, Arizona, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV after Pompeo cancelled his scheduled meeting with German officials in Berlin to pay an unannounced visit to the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, where he continued attempts to sow discord between the two neighboring countries of Iran and Iraq.

US Officials Continue to Falsely Accuse Iran of Planned Attack

If the United States does manage to con itself into attacking Iran, something which seems increasingly possible as days pass, the narrative seems to be that US officials are convinced that Iran is going to attack them first.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo once again warned Iran not to attack, a warning that seems particularly nonsensical following reports where intelligence officials confirmed that the claims of an Iranian plot were heavily exaggerated to justify anti-Iran measures.

The heavy exaggeration is just growing though, with unnamed US officials telling NBC News that an unnamed Iranian official had okayed a potential attack on a US military target, an attack these putative officials tied to putative Iranian proxies, which is almost always administration doublespeak for Iraqi militias.

Does your combat experience even matter against Chinese and Russian troops?

As China and Russia modernize their militaries and restructure their forces, the U.S. military is wary that its traditional advantages may be negated in a potential war with either, or both, powers.

In the face of a rising China and resurgent Russia, some pundits point to the U.S. military’s surplus of combat experience and large-scale logistical expertise in massing forces as an overwhelming advantage.

America's Defense Budget Is Bigger Than You Think

In its latest budget request, the Trump administration is asking for a near-record $750 billion for the Pentagon and related defense activities—an astonishing figure by any measure. If passed by Congress, it will be one of the largest military budgets in American history, topping peak levels reached during the Korean and Vietnam wars. And keep one thing in mind: That $750 billion represents only part of the actual annual cost of our national security state.

There are at least 10 separate pots of money dedicated to fighting wars, preparing for yet more wars, and dealing with the consequences of wars already fought. So the next time a president, a general, a secretary of defense, or a hawkish member of Congress insists that the US military is woefully underfunded, think twice. A careful look at US defense expenditures offers a healthy corrective to such wildly inaccurate claims.

NATO Is Endangering Us All

When Canadians support NATO, they are supporting ISIS and al Qaeda. They are also supporting international illicit drug trafficking, a source of covert funding for covert war crimes.

In Syria, the proxies are al Qaeda, ISIS, and their affiliates, commanded and controlled from NATO ships in the port of Alessandretta, plus Western special forces on the ground, beneath the cover of US State Department satellite war propaganda outlets located in Istanbul.[1]

Just as NATO soldiers might falsely believe that they are combating terrorism, NATO’s ISIS/al Qaeda terrorists falsely believe that they are creating a “Caliphate”. But the Caliphate Project[2]has always been a Washington Project, which weaponizes and grows “fundamentalist” ideologies to serve its military agendas. NATO ally Saudi Arabia, a brutal dictatorship that rules by decree and beheads its own people in public, has long been a fountainhead of Wahhabism.

Classified Air Force Laser Weapon For Stealth Jets Shoots Down Missiles

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Self-Protect High Energy Laser Demonstrator (SHiELD) Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) Program, has completed a series of tests last month that successfully shot down "several" missiles with a ground-based laser.

The field training exercise occurred on April 23 at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, reported the 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs.

The SHiELD program has developed a directed energy weapon that will eventually be molded into an aircraft pod. Fifth-generation fighter jets and drones will soon have the ability to destroy surface-to-air (SAM) and air-to-air (AAM) missiles with laser beams.

"This critical demonstration shows that our directed energy systems are on track to be a game changer for our warfighters," said Dr. Kelly Hammett, director of AFRL’s Directed Energy Directorate.

Facts and Figures on Washington's Immense Defense Lobbying Industry

I haven't posted on this specific subject for some time and, given the upcoming midterm elections and the meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States, I thought it was time to revisit one of the most powerful groups in the United States, the defence industry. Thanks to Open Secrets, we have ready access to how much the defence sector has contributed to politicians and how much it spends on lobbying. This is particularly pertinent given the hundreds of billions of dollars that are transferred from American taxpayers to a handful of companies every year.

Let's start by looking at the defence industry's contributions to those who are supposed to represent Americans in Washington. Here is a graphic showing the sector's long-term political contributions:

The 358th Public Affairs Detachment said in a news release that soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 66th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, conducted a field training exercise with anti-tank weapons amid deteriorating Russia–US relations.

On May 2, American forces gathered at the Johana Range, Poland, to fire the M136 AT4 Light Anti-Armor Weapon, an 84-mm unguided, portable, single-shot recoilless rocket launcher, which is one of the most common light anti-tank weapons in the world.

"Today's training gives the Soldier a familiarization with the weapon system," said US Army Staff Sgt. Larry W. Kirby, a squad leader assigned to Charlie Company, 3rd BN, 66th AR, 1ABCT, 1ID.

US acted on vague Mossad tip-off when it sent strike group to Middle East – report

A US aircraft carrier group and bomber task force were deployed to the Middle East after a tip-off on a “credible threat” from Iran, which came, conveniently vague and timely, from Israeli spy agency Mossad, it has been reported.
At an April 15 meeting in Washington, Israeli National Security Council chief Meir Ben-Shabbat passed along a warning to US National Security Advisor John Bolton, senior Israeli officials told Axios. The information Bolton received was left vague: the attack could hit a US target in the Persian Gulf, or maybe Saudi Arabia, or maybe the UAE.

Trump Floats Allowing Service Academy Athletes to Turn Pro Before Finishing Military Commitment

President Donald Trump floated the idea of providing a waiver for military athletes who hope to turn pro before their service time is up.
Speaking from the White House Rose Garden, the president suggested that academy athletes could finish their military obligations after any pro career would end.

“They’ll serve their time after they’re done with professional sports,” Mr. Trump said on Monday, the Washington Times reported.

Trump noted that the current rules prevent military schools such as West Point from recruiting the best players.

To Stand Out, the Army Picks a New Uniform With a World War II Look

The United States Army wanted a spiffy new service uniform, one that would stand out in a tough recruiting environment and polish the Army’s image after a generation of grinding and divisive wars.

So it turned the clock back. Way back.

It chose a new uniform that looks almost exactly like the old green gabardine wool field coat and khaki trousers that officers wore in World War II. Probably not by coincidence, that’s what the Army was wearing the last time the nation celebrated total victory in a major war.

Is Bolton Steering Trump Into War with Iran?

After Venezuela’s army decided not to rise up and overthrow Nicholas Maduro, by Sunday night, it was Iran that was in our gun sights.

Bolton ordered the USS Abraham Lincoln, its carrier battle group and a bomber force to the Mideast “to send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime that any attack on United States interests or those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force.”

What “attack” was Bolton talking about?

Apocalypse Now & Loving It!

Remember the madcap scene in 'Apocalypse Now', the 1979 film by Francis Ford Coppola about American genocidal rampaging in Vietnam? "I love the smell of napalm in the morning", bellows the psychotic military commander as US choppers strafe and destroy a Vietnamese village.

The same kind of unhinged death-wishing is reminiscent in the Trump administration. President Trump is on an infernal roll and his twisted supporters are loving it.

Escobar: The Eagle, The Bear, & The Dragon

Once upon a time, deep into the night in selected campfires across the deserts of Southwest Asia, I used to tell a fable about the eagle, the bear and the dragon – much to the amusement of my Arab and Persian interlocutors.

It was about how, in the young 21stcentury, the eagle, the bear and the dragon had taken their (furry) gloves off and engaged in what turned out to be Cold War 2.0.

As we approach the end of the second decade of this already incandescent century, perhaps it’s fruitful to upgrade the fable. With all due respect to Jean de la Fontaine, excuse me while I kiss the (desert) sky again.

Long gone are the days when a frustrated bear repeatedly offered to cooperate with the eagle and its minions on a burning question: nuclear missiles.

Media Blackout: U.S. and Iran Tensions Rise -- Iran Claims Arrest of 290 CIA Agents; U.S. Sends 2 Aircraft Carriers To Mediterranean; Bolton & Pompeo Issue Threats

By Aaron Kesel

U.S. and Iranian tensions are rising at a rapid rate. National Security Adviser John Bolton has publicly acknowledged deploying the U.S.S Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group and a bomber task force to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) region as a “clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime that any attack on United States interests or on those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force.”

However, this follows reports on April 22nd that the U.S.S. John C. Stennis and Abraham Lincoln carrier strike groups have joined the US Mediterranean 6th Fleet for the first time in more than two years, as DEBKAfile reported. For those unaware, DEBKA is used by Mossad intelligence very frequently to get their news/intelligence within the Middle East...

Venezuelan Fiasco: Neocon Chicken Hawks Still 'Chasing the Dragon' of Total-War Euphoria

Sure. Let’s invade Venezuela. Another jolly little war. It’s full of commies and has a sea of oil. The only thing those Cuban-loving Venezuelans lack are weapons of mass destruction.

This week, leading US neocons openly threatened that if the CIA’s latest attempts to stage a coup to overthrow Venezuela’s Maduro government failed, Washington might send in the Marines.

Pompeo Won’t Promise to Consult Congress Before Attacking Venezuela

Speaking on ABC’s “This Week,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo refused to comment on whether the administration would consult Congress before invading Venezuela, saying “I don’t want to speak to that.”

Pompeo shunned all questions about the role of Congress in a potential Venezuelan war, saying he is confident that President Trump has sufficient authority that whatever he decides will be legal.

This is a serious question constitutionally. Lawmakers note that the power to declare war lies exclusively with Congress. Fresh off of the veto of the Yemen War challenge, there is reason to question if the law matches up to the practical reality of US war-making anymore.

America’s Blueprint for Global Domination: From “Containment” to “Pre-emptive War”. The 1948 Truman Doctrine

Today’s US-NATO sponsored wars are part of a military and foreign policy agenda extending over a period of more than half a century.

What these 1948 State department documents reveal (see below in Annex) is continuity in US foreign policy from “Containment” during the Cold War to today’s doctrine of “Pre-emptive War”.

In this regard, the NeoCons Project for the New American Century’s blueprint formulated in 2000 for global conquest should be viewed as the culmination of a post-war agenda of military hegemony and global economic domination as initially formulated by the State Department in 1948 at the outset of the Cold War.

Needless to say, successive Democratic and Republican administrations, from Harry Truman to George W. Bush and Barack Obama have been involved in carrying out this hegemonic blueprint for global domination, which the Pentagon calls the “Long War”.

Ending The Pentagon's Long Con

People condemn President Trump for his incessant lying and his con games -- and rightly so. But few Americans condemn the Pentagon and the rest of the national security state, even though we’ve been the victims of their long con for decades now. As it happens, from the beginning of the Cold War to late last night, they’ve remained remarkably skilled at exaggerating the threats the U.S. faces and, believe me, that represents the longest con of all. It’s kept the military-industrial complex humming along, thanks to countless trillions of taxpayer dollars, while attempts to focus a spotlight on that scam have been largely discredited or ignored.

1933 Banker Plot to Remove FDR Was a Ruse

The Illuminati bankers staged the coup to give FDR credibility as Wall Street's nemesis. As I will show, they routinely used such tricks to build up their Presidential puppets.

The conspirators (members of the "American Liberty League") approached retired Major General Smedley Butler to use 500,000 veterans to remove FDR and become a Mussolini-like figure.

butler-medals.jpgSmedley Butler was absolutely the LAST man you would approach if you were serious. The most decorated Marine in history, Butler recently had been forced to resign by Herbert Hoover for calling Mussolini a "mad dog" and warning that his fascist cohorts "were about to break loose in Europe." Butler refused to retract his remarks and thus became a national hero overnight.

However, if you wanted someone to expose your coup as he did; (thought it "smacked of treason,") Butler was the go-to person.

Trump contradicts Bolton, Pompeo on military option against Venezuela

US President Donald Trump has contradicted his national security team on pushing for a military intervention against Venezuela, saying he and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin share the goal of a peaceful end to the crisis in the Central American nation.

"He is not looking at all to get involved in Venezuela, other than he'd like to see something positive happen for Venezuela, and I feel the same way. We want to get some humanitarian aid. Right now people are starving," Trump told reporters on Friday.

Trump's reference to Russia’s hands-off approach towards Venezuela stands in contrast to insistence by his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that Russia is part of the problem in Caracas. Pompeo claimed earlier last week that President Nicolás Maduro was about to flee Venezuela until Russia persuaded him to stay.

Breaking: Syrian Army captures strategic hilltop to cutoff militant supply route along Idlib-Hama axis

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:00 P.M.) – The jihadist and Turkish-backed rebels launched a counter-offensive along the Idlib-Hama axis, today, after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) kicked off their operation along the demilitarized zone.

However, their counter-offensive would be short lived, thanks in large part to the Syrian Arab Army’s artillery units and air force.

Following the failed counter-offensive by the militants, the Syrian Arab Army retook the initiative to capture the key hilltop of Tal Uthman near the town of Kafr Naboudeh.

JFK CONFRONTED ISRAEL OVER ITS SECRET NUCLEAR PROGRAM

Avner Cohen and Bill Burr are two of the best historians on the secret Israeli nuclear program of the 1960s, which made Israel the Middle East’s first nuclear power.

Seal of Mossad – Israeli Foreign Intelligence
It almost didn’t happen. In a brief for the non-profit National Security Archives and an article for Haaretz.com,Cohen and Burr explain that the program was almost shut down. President John F. Kennedy confronted Israeli leaders in the summer of 1963 demanding stringent inspections.

Throughout the spring and summer of 1963, the leaders of the United States and Israel – President John F. Kennedy and Prime Ministers David Ben-Gurion and Levi Eshkol – were engaged in a high-stakes battle of wills over Israel’s nuclear program.

One has to wonder; was this one of the reasons for Kennedy's assassination?!?

THE COMPLETE MERCENARY: How Erik Prince Used the Rise of Trump to Make an Improbable Comeback

WHEN ERIK PRINCE arrived at the Four Seasons resort in the Seychelles in January 2017 for his now-famous meetings with a Russian banker and UAE ruler Mohammed bin Zayed, he was in the middle of an unexpected comeback. The election of Donald Trump had given the disgraced Blackwater founder a new opportunity to prove himself. After years of trying and failing to peddle a sweeping vision of mercenary warfare around the world, Erik Prince was back in the game.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Erik Prince is a very interesting character; but we need to ask; is this the face of the American military we want the world to see; mercs, with no real loyalty or care, about who they are hired to kill, as long as they get paid?!?

I would like to hope not.

I would very much like to suggest that President Trump establish a "Department of Peace", to find ways, other than wars, regime changes, and coups, to achieve the country's geopolitical goals without anyone firing a single shot.

The degree to which the practice of wars, informs and dictates American foreign policy, is utterly terrifying to me.

And to put it into perspective, there is no American teenager, aged 17 or 18, who has not seen that the US government appears to be, and has been, in a perpetual state of war, even the abysmally failing wars, like Afghanistan and Yemen.

Yes, I get it, peace through strength and commerce.

But these wars are dead-ending both financial and human capital, and as a government imminently pregnant with an exploding Federal debt, which is around $22 trillion dollars (that we know of), it would seem to make sense for the Federal Government to quit its addiction to wars, and perhaps, even go cold-turkey, should there be no real danger to Americans being caused in that war (like Yemen).

Facebook says it will allow Holocaust denial

We do not remove lies or content that is inaccurate," wrote Joel Kaplan, Facebook's vice president of global public policy.

(JTA) — Facebook will still allow users to deny the Holocaust even though it removed prominent bigots and anti-Semites from its platform.

The social media giant deleted the personal, professional and fan accounts of some leading extremists and conspiracy theorists, like David Duke, Louis Farrakhan and Alex Jones, on Thursday. But in a letter from April 9, Joel Kaplan, Facebook’s vice president of global public policy, said the site would still allow users to “say things on Facebook that are wrong or inaccurate, even when they are offensive.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

This demonstrates, painfully clearly, that Facebook was after those people deemed "leading extremists and conspiracy theorists", so they were summarily deplatformed.

This was about getting those people off its site, rather than Holocaust denial, they were after, and this was simply the justification.

As Facebook continues with these policies, there is going to be a very rocky road between this blog... and those who believe that the First Amendment to the Constitution is granted to every American, even if one believes that what they are saying is flat-out wrong.

Pentagon: Flattop to join Chinese fleet this year

China’s first domestically built aircraft carrier is likely to enter service this year, marking another advance in Beijing’s ability to project influence well beyond its shores, the Pentagon said Thursday in an updated assessment of Chinese military power.

Pompeo to Portray China as a Threat in Major Arctic Policy SpeechWill reject China's claim of being a 'near-Arctic state'

One day after the Pentagon issued a new report dramatically hyping China as a grave threat to the United States, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is said to be planning a major anti-China speech during his visit to Finland on Monday.

Monday’s speech is expected to be a major US policy speech on the Arctic, and territorial claims therein. Pompeo is expected to spin China as threatening the entire Arctic, and will reject Chinese claims to be a “near-Arctic state” because of its interest in using the area as a shipping route.

The focus of Pompeo’s attack on China, however, is likely to be totally distinct from the Arctic, and just a continuation of the flurry of vague allegations that the Pentagon started with in its own report, part of a broader US policy to portray China as a major enemy and threat to American dominance worldwide.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have to wonder; when Pompeo was a kid in elementary school, did he ever get a gold star on his report card in that little section, "Works well with others"?!?!?

Because right now, with the exceptions of Israel and Saudi Arabia, the man appears to be the most consistently disagreeable guy in DC.

These are threats, engineered to get ever-more money for the Pentagon, and arrived at by some very dubious thought processes, most of which have little to no foundation in facts.

And Secretary Pompeo, there is a question which haunts me, and I think my brother and sister Americans deserve a straight answer here: why is the US government objecting to the "Silk Road" concept, rather than joining it, and enabling American companies to trade with Chinese companies, and vise versa?!?

Trading always trumps war, in my world, at least.

Air Force estimates $420M needed to rebuild Nebraska base

The Air Force is raising its cost estimate to $420 million to repair and rebuild at Nebraska's Offutt Air Force Base following severe flooding that forced officials to scramble to save munitions and move aircraft to higher ground.

More than 130 structures were damaged by the Missouri River flooding at the base that houses the U.S. military's Strategic Command. Roughly 60 of those structures were damaged beyond repair and will need to be demolished, said John Henderson, assistant secretary of the Air Force for installations, environment and energy.

"It wasn't just the water, it was what was in the water," Henderson told the Omaha World-Herald. The floodwaters ran as deep as 9 feet (2.7 meters) in some places and left behind a toxic sludge at the base.

Pentagon Setting Military Options for Attacking VenezuelaTop officials hold closed-door meeting on potential attack

Having cancelled his Europe trip because of ongoing planning on Venezuela, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan held closed-door meetings at the Pentagon on Friday with John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Exact details of the meeting are not being made public, and the State Department didn’t even list the meeting as having taken place. Administration officials, however, said the focus was on discussing various military options for a US invasion of Venezuela.

Perennial hawk John Bolton seems to be salivating at the possibility of the US invading the major South American country, while Pompeo has been telling the press at every opportunity that if the US decides an attack is required “that’s what the United States will do.”

Shanahan continues to brag about the good intelligence the US has on the situation in Venezuela, a claim which must be questioned after this week’s failed coup.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That last paragraph holds a vital clue; if there was "solid intelligence" on Venezuela, then why did last week's coup attempt fizzle and fail so horrifically?!?

The Venezuelan people have never done anything to us, except to be sitting on the world's premier oil reserves.

And here's the runup: demonization, destabilization; regime change, and Brazil's oil only to be sold in US dollars.

Wash; rinse; repeat; the pattern is painfully clear by now.

China's Mass Surveillance App Hacked; Code Reveals Specific Criteria For Illegal Oppression

Human Rights Watch got their hands on an app used by Chinese authorities in the western Xinjiang region to surveil, track and categorize the entire local population - particularly the 13 million or so Turkic Muslims subject to heightened scrutiny, of which around one million are thought to live in cultural 'reeducation' camps.

By "reverse engineering" the code in the "Integrated Joint Operations Platform" (IJOP) app, HRW was able to identify the exact criteria authorities rely on to 'maintain social order.' Of note, IJOP is "central to a larger ecosystem of social monitoring and control in the region," and similar to systems being deployed throughout the entire country.

The platform targets 36 types of people for data collection, from those who have "collected money or materials for mosques with enthusiasm," to people who stop using smartphones.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Don't think for a second, that the US government, and its "alphabet soup" agencies, are not SALIVATING to get their hands on this, in order to "completely judge and control" all American citizens.

Biden Was Wrong: Defense Department Says China Plans To Replace US, Become Top Power

It looks like President Trump was right yet again when he put Joe Biden on blast for being "very naive" about China after the 2020 Democratic frontrunner said the world's second-largest economy "is not competition for us."

"If Biden actually said that, that’s a very dumb statement," Trump said in a Thursday interview with Fox News.

Considering the brewing tit-for-tat antagonisms between the American Navy and People's Liberation Army-Navy in the Strait of Taiwan and the South China Sea, it's hard to believe that any American politician - much less one vying to be the commander-in-chief of the American military - would write China off so easily.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh.) We could be doing so much better, economically, if the emphasis was to "engage" rather than "enrage" countries around the world, China being one of the worst examples of US foreign policy, ever.

And at an extraordinarily delicate time in trade negotiations between the US and China?!?

This is so seriously screwed up, I hardly know where to begin.

Sharyl Attkisson: How Media Narratives Became More Important Than Facts

Authored by Sharyl Attkisson via The Epoch Times,

The day that I told CBS News I wished to leave my job as investigative correspondent ahead of my contract, I didn’t give a reason. I didn’t see the point because the problem wasn’t fixable.

Nor was it isolated to CBS News.

My own take is that - as our industry has changed in ways that have become undeniable to most - I was a bit of the canary in the coal mine. By that, I mean I believe I was among the first to really pay attention to the increasingly effective operations to shape and censor news—the movements to establish narratives rather than follow facts—and to see the growing influence of smear operations, political interests, and corporate interests on the news.

This is a woman I really respect, professionally, and hope to see more of her independent work as a journalist.

Pentagon Warns Of Chinese Nuclear Subs Expanding Into Arctic Via "Polar Silk Road"

A new Pentagon report released late this week has voiced deep concern over increased Chinese military presence in the Arctic region, including nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines, which Beijing plans to produce at least five more of by 2020.

The Pentagon assessment explores and analyzes China's potential to erect a “Polar Silk Road” as an extension of President Xi Jinping’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative. This would include likely deployment of security assets, such as submarines acting as nuclear deterrents and military bases in far-flung locations, found the report.

Beijing itself hasn't been secretive about this scenario, given it published an Arctic policy white paper last June, which outlined long term strategic expansion into the globe's northernmost climes, despite China's geography as a non-Arctic state.

Some of the highlights of the Pentagon report are as follows...

* * *

Military expansion under the guise of civilian research

Webmaster's Commentary:

Another pathetic bid for more money to "answer this Chinese challenge"??!?

Sorry, Pentagon; but until you can prove the spending of every CENT you have collected over the last 20 years, and why it has not anticipated this need much sooner, your funds should be rationed, like the allowance of some pimply teenager, always begging mom and dad for more.

This combination of a nearly pathological lack of planning, coupled with hog-wild spending, generally proven to be "sound and fury, signifying nothing", in terms of real-world weaponry capabilities has to stop, and right the heck now.

Behold The Breathtaking Weakness Of The Empire!

Authored by The Saker,

The Empire has suffered painful defeats in Afghanistan and Iraq, but one has to admit that these are “tough” countries to crack. The Empire also appears to have lost control of Libya, but that is another complex country which is very hard to control. We also saw all the pathetic huffing and puffing with the DPRK. But, let’s be honest, the USA never stood a chance to bully the DPRK into submission, nevermind invading or regime-changing it. Syria was much weaker, but here Russia, Iran and Hezbollah did a world class job of repelling all the AngloZionist attacks, political and military. Besides, I for one will never blame Trump for not listening to Bolton and not triggering WWIII over Syria (yet?)

But Venezuela?!

Webmaster's Commentary:

It has taken an enormously long time for people who (very much like me) who, from birth, were force-fed the psychologically poisonous geopolitical pablum, that this country, the Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika, never did any harm, and was the "poster child" for sweet reasonable relationships with almost all other countries on the planet, except those who were very, very bad,and therefore had to be "punished" by a "right makes right" foreign policy.

I have had innumerable "Buddha on the road" moments in these last 25 years or so, with my sweetheart Mike, and the website, so I have been forced to confront the unavoidable truth, that what we are told about the actions of our country, many times, has utterly no relationship with reality.

When Karl Marx made the observation that all wars are economic in their origin, the facts of history, definitely have proved him correct.

Venezuela is a case in point.

Venezuela has the world's largest proven oil reserves on the planet. Google tells us the following:

"The proven oil reserves in Venezuela are recognized as the largest in the world, totaling 297 billion barrels (4.72×1010 m3) as of 1 January 2014." and includes finds from relatively recent scientific research from the Orinoco Peninsula. Potential Venezuelan oil development, Orinoco Peninsula

As with all of its other misadventures in the 21st century, any US engineered/ attempted "regime change" will be about creating a more "US-Centric Government; controlling who buys the oil; and insure that it is sold only in US dollars.

With oil prices falling as dramatically as they have, in light of the reality that Venezuela's economy never diversified much from oil production, the country has suffered intensely economically, compounding the problems created by massive US sanctions against it.

Economic Sanctions as
Collective Punishment:The Case of Venezuela

So now, that the "CU-Cu KA'CHOO!" has failed, and I might add, miserably, what next for this hapless country, whose citizens are looking just to survive?!?

Regime change?!? An infusion of privately funded mercs, to destabilize it, as Erik Prince has pitched, so that Maduro is incapable of wielding any more political or economic authority?!?

And many times people hired by these "mercs for hire" groups, have had their conscience surgically removed, before signing up for such duties; they view their jobs as "kill first, ask questions later."

Are those the "moral optics" of this administration?!? Sorry, Mr. President: but after the continuing genocide with which the US is assisting Saudi Arabia in committing, I needed to ask.

That Elliott Abrams so catastrophically blinked and missed here, and was ultimately unable to make this happen, at the end of the day, should be reason enough for Trump sacking him immediately, although I would not bet that this will happen any time soon.

We have an interesting story, datelined today, as follows; US government still pondering military options in Venezuela

Mr. President, I would counsel extreme caution here; the world knows, full well, what the US government is up to.

This is not 1953, when the American government could destabilize the Iranian government, lie about it conveniently, and no one would really notice, except for those Iranians who got ground down to a pulp, and tortured by the Shah's Secret Service, SAVAK Origins: Iran's SAVAK.

Mr. President: I must strongly caution you: a military strike against Venezuela would be one of the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly idiotic things you could order do be done right now.

I am watching the FAUX crawl, and the title is "Chaos in Venezuela"; and yet, people seem to be crossing a bridge not with any discernible sense of urgency, which leads me to believe that there are more US military actions to come.

I understand that Venezuela's oil wealth is something which those in the Bowels of Power in DC would love to control; but the next time you set up a US "ringer" to challenge Maduro, make that person at least somewhat palatable to the people of Venezuela.

These people have a very strong sense of their history and their heritage; if there is a military decap strike against Caracas, the people are going to fight any invading army with their very lives.

And as a final caveat, President Trump; the US military tends to do quite a great deal better with operations in the desert, rather than in the jungle; and outside of Venezuela's main cities, you have a ton of jungle. Have someone you trust check it out for you, and crunch the numbers.

And BTW; you are welcome!!

US Signed Over $1 Billion in Missile Contracts Since INF Treaty Withdrawal

The US has signed over $1 billion in contracts for the development of new missiles in the three months since Washington announced it would withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty in October 2018.

Between October 2018 and February 2019, when Washington formally began the process of leaving the INF Treaty, it quickly set about developing a new arsenal of missiles, penning $1.1 billion in deals with defense contractors in that three-month time span, according to a new report by anti-nuclear weapons activists. That runs in sharp contrast to the US' own claims in February that it would continue to respect the boundaries of the treaty.

Pentagon Hypes ‘China Threat’ With Eye Towards a Bigger Budget

The US military vastly outspends every other military on the planet, and has capabilities that far outstretch all others, hampered, if at all, by the fact that the US is constantly embroiled in myriad wars around the world.

The news that Russia has fallen out of the top five in military spending, however, makes them an increasingly difficult “threat” to hype up. After all, the US is outspending them at least ten-fold.

China is in second place on the list, and even if they’re far behind the US, that seems to be where the Pentagon is focusing. The idea that China is likely to build its first aircraft carrier this year is presented as an effort to “contest US military superiority” in the region.

All Chinese equipment the Pentagon mentioned in their new report, they only have a small fraction of what the US has. On top of that, the report hypes Chinese hackers, and accuses ethnic Chinese people in general of being willing to “advance China’s interests.”

Sexual assaults in military rise to more than 20,000, Pentagon survey says

In a setback for the U.S. military's efforts to reduce sexual assault in the military, a new Pentagon survey released Thursday shows the number of sexual assaults increased in 2018 to 20,500, almost the same levels as five years ago, a result that Pentagon officials say will lead to changes in its sexual assault prevention efforts.

The latest figures are included in an anonymous Pentagon survey conducted every two years that estimates the "prevalence," or rate, of sexual assault in the military. Sexual assault is defined as rape, sexual assault, forcible sodomy, aggravated sexual contact, abusive sexual contact and attempts to commit those offenses.

Pentagon says 120 civilians killed worldwide by US forces in 2018 – human rights orgs beg to differ

Human rights groups, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, however, claim the actual number of casualties is much higher. A joint report published by Amnesty and Airwars earlier this year says more than 1,600 civilians were killed in 2017 during the US-backed offensive on Raqqa, Syria.

Another report, this time by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), said 406 civilians were killed by international forces, including the US military, in the Afghan conflict last year, most of whom died during aerial bombardments.

The Pentagon report acknowledged discrepancies in casualty levels compared to the UNAMA report, and explained the difference by saying the US bases its figures on “different types of information and uses a different methodology to assess whether civilian casualties have occurred, and whether such casualties occurred as a result of US military actions”.

Russia Sends China Replacements for Storm-Damaged S-400 Missiles - Reports

Replacement missiles for the S-400 anti-air missile system sold to China by Russia last year have been sent, according to media reports. Some of the system’s missiles and other equipment were damaged in a storm in the English Channel in December 2017.

The replacement missiles departed from Russia at the beginning of April, The Diplomat reported, citing Russian military diplomatic sources. It's not known how many of the interceptors were damaged and required replacement.

Beijing bought six units of the advanced anti-air interceptor system in 2015 for $3 billion, but the first batch was delivered only in April 2018, following several months of delays caused by a storm in the English Channel in December 2017. The tempest damaged several components of the system, including some of the missiles and auxiliary equipment, causing the ship to turn back, Sputnik reported, citing Russia's defense industry cooperation service.

How the Pentagon Took Ownership of Donald Trump

Donald Trump is a con man. Think of Trump University or a juicy Trump steak or can’t-lose casinos (that never won). But as president, one crew he hasn't conned is the Pentagon. Quite the opposite, they've conned him because they've been at the game a lot longer and lie (in Trump-speak) in far biglier ways.

The Air Force is spinning toward a $4 billion financial disaster

Hurricane relief efforts at Tyndall Air Force Base will begin lapsing Wednesday due to a lack of funds, preventing the start of all new work and deferring more than 120 projects planned to begin after May 1.

But that’s just the start of the Air Force’s money problems, which have resulted in a shortfall of more than $4 billion in fiscal 2019.

If the Air Force doesn’t get that funding, it will be forced to ground combat aircraft, defer at least 61 facility repair projects at various bases and halt certain aircraft maintenance actions. Key weapons programs — like hypersonic weapons development — would be slowed down and become more costly, and non-deploying squadrons may have their flying hours stripped away, warned Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson in a March 6 memo obtained by Defense News.

US Navy Sailors Told to Clap Like They’re ‘at a Strip Club’ for Pence - Reporter

Before US Vice President Mike Pence took the podium to address the sailors of the USS Harry S. Truman Tuesday, the members of the armed forces were reportedly given particularly puzzling instruction on how to welcome the VP.

On Tuesday afternoon, Pence traveled to Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia, to deliver a message from US President Donald Trump while also recognizing the 2,000-plus missions the USS Harry S. Truman and its 7,500 sailors have been a part of in the past year.

The vice president, via Twitter following his address, particularly applauded the the Truman Carrier Strike Group's "essential part" in crippling Daesh.

Prior to Pence's speech, however, it was an order regarding servicemembers' applause that took Twitter by storm.

F-35s Deployed with Wrong Spare Parts Amid Supply Chain Failures, GAO Finds

Because of modifications to the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter fleet, spare parts that the U.S. Marine Corps took on its recent deployment overseas were not compatible with its fifth-generation fighters, according to a new watchdog report.

The lapse in supply chain management is one of myriad reasons the F-35 stealth jet fleet, operated across three services, is falling short of its performance and operational requirements, according to officials with the Government Accountability Office.

In a report published last week, the GAO found that spare parts shortages contributed to the F-35's overall lower-than-desired mission-capable rate.

Washington Warns Beijing: 'Paramilitary' Fishing Boats Will Now Be Treated Like Combatants

As the US continues its increasingly daring and extremely provocative "freedom of navigation" operations in the Strait of Taiwan and South China Sea, it's also growing more vocal about challenging China's increasingly expansionary military presence in the Pacific. Over the weekend, the US has warned Beijing that the US military would aggressively respond to provocative acts by China's coast guard and fishing boats in the same way it reacts to the Chinese navy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, why in the name of heaven, why are you being more brutally verbally aggressive than ever to Chinese leadership, when trade negotiations between China and the US are already on rocky ground?!?

IF there is a logical reason for this, I would certainly like to hear what the rationale is for this statement; otherwise, it appears like sheer madness, from a perspective of logic, reason, and the importance of "face", in Asian cultures.

Joint Russia-China Naval Drills Kick Off After 2 US Warships Enter Taiwan Strait

Early this week Chinese media confirmed that Russian warships arrived in Qingdao, a port city in East China's Shandong Province, at the start this week's join China-Russia naval exercises.

The Russian fleet included the Varyag guided missile cruiser, a submarine, two anti-submarine ships, a corvette, a landing ship, a tanker and a rescue vessel, according to China's Global Times.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please, LORD, let nothing go wrong in any of these exercises, or from the two US carriers now passing off the coast of Taiwan.

As someone celebrating her 70th birthday next week, I have rarely seen a time in American history, where things just seem to be drifting towards a war, and possibly a global war at that.

It's kind of like that archetypal dream, about two trains, running head long , right at each other on the same track, and not being able to stop them.

What do I want of my government?!? That it actually does start indulging in moral, thoughtful, hard-won negotiations with China and Russia; you know, those kinds of actions which deepen confidence and trust?!?

I am absolutely sure that if I spoke Russian, or Cantonese, and could speak to mothers of kids who just got drafted into either country's military (or perhaps enlisted), they would be both very proud of their kids' participation in those armies, but would agree with me, that peace; the rule of law; commerce; and intelligent, thoughtful planning, need to reign in human society.

Otherwise, humankind may just blow itself to kingdom come, and leave a fractured, horrific planet in its wake, incapable of regrowth or rebirth.

Unfortunately, those in the Bowels of Power in DC, do not seem to understand this right now. And the only modalities they seem to believe will work, in a desperate attempt to stabilize the US economy, are to continue to expropriate resources to which they have no moral right, and insure that they are sold only in US dollars.

Their tools right now are are demonisation; destabilization; and wars to insure the "end game" winds up entirely positively for the US government.

But the problem with this attitude, which comes to us from the great Greek storytellers, is hubris; an over-arching pride which makes one believe that you can do anything you want, without any moral, or physical, repercussions happening at all.

Unfortunately, the real world does not ultimately work in this manner; there is a cost, or costs to specific actions and choice, which can be horrendous.

The casualty counts in current US declared, and undeclared wars, is staggering, both for the indigenous people who live there, and our troops.

And the broken lives, and bodies, again, of both the people we are bombing, and our troops, who wind up maimed for life, from these wars, suggest a better, more peace-centric process is desperately needed by the US government, and to work to stay away from wars as its "only solution" to geopolitical and economic challenges.

Swedish Anti-Extremism Tsar Allows Returning ISIS Fighters Re-Entry As "Caring Citizens"

Authored by Jon Hall via FMShooter.com

According to officials in Stockholm, Swedish residents have nothing to fear from Islamic State fighters returning from the Middle East to live peaceful, crime-free lives in Sweden.

Christina Kiernan, Stockholm’s anti-violent extremism coordinator, claimed that jihadists who returned from Syria and Iraq were living “orderly lives” following public outcry regarding the government’s decision not to strip people who fought in radical Islamic terror organizations of their Swedish passports.

Kiernan said on a television interview this week:

The IS returnees we have talked to so far have no known current crime, they have a job and an orderly life to the extent that we do not have knowledge of activities that can in any way scare anyone…

The television interviewer fired back:

So they are returning from this type of business and becoming caring, well-behaved citizens?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Kiernan has just become a major accessory to the coming cultural suicide in Sweden, as we have seen in so so many other countries, where Sharia law rapidly, and rabidly, replaces the existing Laws of the Land.

US Troops In Syria For "Long Haul" Atop "A Lot Of Oil Resources": Pentagon Official

A high level Pentagon official has admitted that US forces will be in Syria for "the long haul" and coupled his statement by declaring the territory contains “a lot of the oil resources and arable land.”

The unusually frank remarks were made this week by Michael Mulroy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East, while addressing a conference at the D.C. based Center for a New American Security (CNAS), months after President Trump appeared to have caved to his advisers, reversing course earlier this year from his stated goal of a full and rapid US troop exit from Syria.

Mulroy said “we have a very capable partner” — in reference to the primarily Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) — and quickly noted the US-trained SDF happens to occupy key regions in eastern Syria with "a lot of the oil resources and arable land," and added that, "we are there with them".

Webmaster's Commentary:

Wait a minute; the US military is actually occupying over 1/3rd of the sovereign country of Syria?!?

The question that the Pentagon, State Department, and the Executive Office need to ask, is, how long will it be, before Russian forces, carrying out Putin's orders, drive them out?!?

If I were a Federal official, this would be the question that would be keeping me up at night.

Time to Foreclose on the Churchill Cult

As First Lord of the Admiralty [during the First World War], he imposed on Imperial Germany a starvation blockade that resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths. This blockade wasn't lifted until several months after the hostilities had ended. In the Second World War Churchill supported the terror bombing of German cities, at a time when these population centers could no longer defend themselves and when the war was all but lost ... At Yalta the prime minister worked to preserve the British Empire by shamelessly praising Stalin and the Soviet Empire ... Throughout his life, he stood for the British Empire, British independence, and an "anti-socialist vision of England." In the end, Churchill watched all three vanish.

America's Will to War: The Turning Point

Were the Founding Fathers somehow to return, they would find it impossible to recognize our political system. The major cause of this transformation has been America's involvement in war and preparation for war over the past hundred years. War has warped our constitutional order, the course of our national development, and the very mentality of our people ... The turning point was signaled by a series of military adventures: the war with Spain, the war for the conquest of the Philippines, and, finally, our entry into the First World War. Together, they represented a profound break with American traditions of government.

Police Arrive at Venezuelan Embassy in Washington With Handcuffs, Block Entrance

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - US law enforcement officials blocked off the entrance of the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington on Tuesday amid ongoing protests over the handling of the crisis in the Latin American country, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the embassy.

About 30 policemen with handcuffs arrived at the Venezuelan Embassy, which has been occupied by activists for more than two weeks, blocking the entrance from 30th Street.

The goal of the protesters is to prevent US-backed opposition figure Juan Guaido and his so-called government from taking possession of the building.

he situation in front of the embassy has been exacerbated amid tensions in the Venezuelan capital Caracas, where Juan Guaido released a video on Tuesday morning with a call on the country's military to join in the final stage of his so-called "Operation Freedom" from the La Carlota military base with the goal of ending the “usurpation of power” by President Maduro.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Somehow, I don't think that Trump's "Venezuela Gambit", is going particularly well for him today, which could have engendered the threat of a boycott of Cuba.

So now, our soldiers have a "Clap Protocol" which they must follow, upon listening to whatever speech any dignitary from the White House is giving?!?

Venezuela Coup? "Live Fire" Exchanged Outside Contested Air Base, Armored Car Plows Into Protesters

update 5: As predicted, what Guaido dubbed “Operation Liberty” — a full on coup attempt for which he appealed for Venezuela's military to rise up against Maduro — appears to have failed to achieve significant momentum, given Caracas officials are taking to the air waves to declare the "mediocre" coup attempt successfully put down.

“A mediocre coup d'etat attempt has failed,” said defense minister Vladimir Padrino on a state radio broadcast Tuesday afternoon, following prior statements saying he was ready put down the rebellion by force. And in a television appearance Padrino further called the day's events "ridiculous".

Meanwhile national security advisor John Bolton has stated this is "not a coup" given that the US already sees opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country's president. Bolton said of the rapidly unfolding and increasingly violent events that "it is not a coup for Juan Guaido to try and take command of the Venezuelan military."

Donald J. Trump
?

Webmaster's Commentary:

No, Mr. President: this country does NOT stand for the Freedom of the Venezuelan people; it stands for controlling their massive oil reserves, and insuring that Venezuela's oil will only be sold for US dollars.

I have heard the soundbite "Everything is on the table", floated as a description of further potential ways for the US to get Maduro out of power, whatever they may be.

War against Venezuela for its oil?!?

Right now, I would not bet against it.

But were I in the Pentagon "war room", I would have to ask; "If we invade, what will Russia, which already has troops in position, decide to do?"

This could get ugly, quickly, and in ways for which the US government perhaps has not either thought through, or didn't consider: and that, folks, is what concerns me most.

Trump’s Crusaders March to War

But behind the horror in Sri Lanka, a huge crisis was building up of which the world has so far taken insufficient notice: renewed tensions in the oil-producing Gulf. This is the latest attempt by the United States to crush Iran’s independent-minded government and return it to American tutelage.

The Trump administration has demanded that the principal importers of 1.2 billion barrels of Iranian oil halt purchases almost immediately. This imperial diktat includes China, South Korea, Turkey, India and Japan. The comprehensive embargo is very close to an all-out act of war. In 1941, America’s cut-off of oil to Japan provoked the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr President, a word, please: this was a completely lousy choice, potentially leading to more war in the Middle East and beyond.

And sir, this underscores a couple of points I have been making for a long time.

The first, those in the Bowels of Power in DC, seem to have lost all critical thinking capabilities, in terms of following various scenarios to their most logical end.

And second, and forgive me sir, but it must be blurted out here; just because something is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid move that the US government and military could do, is no guarantee that the US government and military will not do it.

This set of imperial decrees by you and your "enforcers in Chief, Pompeo and Bolton, have set this country up for an incredible, horrific war, which will have horrendous consequences domestically and for the world as well.

And to be painfully candid, sir, although the US did "win" world wars 1 and 2 with the help of their allies, which got us out of a couple of economic holes, this country wasn't running a $22 trillion dollar deficit at the time.

The old financial problems, with wars as their solutions, will not work in 2019. and in the evolving multi-polar world.

The War on Syria Continues. Iran Is Next?

The war on Syria is not over. Western -supported terrorists still occupy Idlib, as well as al Tanif, and strategic resource-rich areas East of the Euphrates. The Al- Rukban concentration camp[1] still holds about 40,000 desperate and dying captives, and the Al-Hawl camp[2] holds 73,000 captives.

The West’s terrorists are expendable, but the West supports them all, including al Qaeda, ISIS, and the YPG/SDF terrorists.

Under the familiar pretense of “going after ISIS”, the Western coalition carpet bombed Raqqa, shipped ISIS out, and re-occupied the ruins with SDF proxies – occupiers posing as liberators.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am hoping and praying that the US, and Israeli governments , will not be so stupid as to believe, for one second, that they can conquer Iran, either militarily, or with some form of regime change.

If Russia thinks, for one second, that Iran is headed toward a crisis, my bet would be under threat from harm, they may immediately start propping up Iran with their own military and weaponry.

As we have seen from incredible performances by Russian military and their weaponry in Syria, the Russians have both the person-power,and weapons, to keep the Israelis and US forces at bay.
