Iran Bill in Peril as Hawks Push Deal-Killing Amendments

The bill to give the US Congress “veto power” over the P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran was already a recipe for killing the negotiations. A flurry of amendments aimed at making the bill even more hostile toward diplomacy, however, is setting off a fight and threatens to derail the entire bill.

Senate hawks Tom Cotton (R – AK) and Marco Rubio (R – FL) are driving a series of efforts to force immediate votes on some of those most contentious amendments, including Rubio’s demand that Iran endorse Israel as a Jewish state, and Cotton’s demand that Iran agree to give inspectors unrestricted access to the entire country, and not just its nuclear program, as conditions for the deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There have been many criticisms I have had about President Obama's policies , as well as those of his predecessor; having said that, the potential for a lasting P5+1 agreement on Iran is an area of agreement between us. It MAY well be the only area on which we agree during his 2nd term of office (BUT - I digress).

But I sincerely wish Tom Cotton and Marco Rubio would retire from their Senate legislative careers, and more to Israel to run for the Knesset.

The fabrication and construction of this bill was, if any legislation ever was, made in Israel, plain and simple.

The Israeli government doesn't want the US and the UN to enter into a peace treaty with Iran regarding its nuclear energy program: the Israeli government wants war, but not a war THEY are willing to have their kids fight. They would highly prefer it to be our kids, American kids, doing the fighting, getting maimed for life, and dying. That is what the Israeli government wants to have happen.

And with this legislation, Senators Cotton and Rubio are putting the needs and concerns of a foreign power over and above the needs and concerns of the Americans they ALLEGEDLY represent.

And to those in Cotton's and Rubio's Senatorial districts; next time, how about finding candidates who will put YOUR needs first, second, and third, and NOT THOSE OF A FOREIGN POWER? With AIPAC money supporting those candidates pledging unwavering fealty to Israel, no matter what the cost to THIS country, I know that will be hard; but it is high time that when American and Israeli geopolitical objectives do NOT converge, that the US government has the right, and the responsibility to "just say no", and go its own way.
