Russian Naval Modernisation and the Vital Role of Zicron Hypersonic Cruise Missiles

The Russian Navy is reportedly preparing for a new flight test of the Zicron cruise missile, a hypersonic anti-ship platform which will be capable of approaching speeds of Mach 9 and performing complex in-flight manoeuvres. The missiles are capable of engaging targets at ranges of up to 1000km - unrivalled by existing anti-ship platforms other than the subsonic Chinese YJ-100.

While Russia appears to be neglecting investment in heavy high endurance warships such as cruisers and destroyers, by equipping ships such as the Admiral Gorshkov Class with world leading anti ship missiles it is hoped that these platforms will have an asymmetric advantage over their heavier counterparts deployed by the navies of its adversaries.
