Rangel-ing: Charlie Pays 'Angels' In Ethics Probe

CBS 2 HD has learned of more alleged back-door dealings and political power peddling by Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel.

The reigning member of Congress' top tax committee is apparently "wrangling" other politicos to get him out of his own financial and tax troubles.

Here's a look at Charlie's so-called "angels" involved in his ethics investigation.

Congressman Rangel has been arrogant in refusing to discuss how, as the man who writes this country's tax laws, he failed to report over $1 million in outside income and $3 million in business transactions as required by the House, lapses under investigation by the House Ethics Committee.

Lingle says government needs to be reworked

HONOLULU - Gov. Linda Lingle on Thursday warned Hawaii residents of a ''fundamental restructuring'' of state government, including layoffs and cuts to public assistance benefits, because of the state's continuing budget woes.

The governor said in a webcast that she plans to decrease payments to social service program beneficiaries and eliminate programs that can effectively be provided by federal or local agencies, or by volunteers.

Lingle said some state offices must be closed and some administrative duties consolidated in areas of government she oversees, which include health and welfare, business and economic development, transportation, and land and natural resources.

Laney: Bottom reached

KAHULUI - The recession is probably over, and the recovery probably has begun, although you'd hardly notice.

The message from Thursday's First Hawaiian Bank Maui Economic Outlook Forum at the Maui Beach Hotel was encouraging, tepidly.

Hawaii Pacific University professor Leroy Laney presented his 20th annual review on behalf of the bank, and it was better than last year.

"The year 2010 may be a relatively flat year," he told about 120 invited guests of the bank at a breakfast meeting. "It will not be a snapback, but just modest growth."

However, tourism is still the main economic factor in the county's economic vitality, and it was clobbered directly by the worldwide recession.

The International Monetary Fund operates primarily as a banker bailout machine. 42% of Parents Don't Want their Children Watching Obama Speech

Larger concern revolves around what the full agenda is in all this? In April, president Obama signed into law the "Serve America Act." The law uses 1.1 billion dollars to increase the membership in AmeriCorp from 75,000 to 250,000 children by the year 2017.

What is the role of AmeriCorp? If the idea were to create a civilian stasi type security force, Van Jones reminds us that it would be done in incremental steps. Evidence already points towards these civilian security forces being used for law enforcement duties

Proposed Power Corridor Raises Eminent Domain Concerns in Six States

Construction of a $1.2 billion high-power electricity corridor could allow private companies to invoke Federal eminent domain powers.

The corridor is planned for parts of Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia and Virginia. The 500-kilovolt transmission lines are anticipated to be 150 feet high and 70 feet wide, requiring a 200-foot wide swath of land to be cleared.

In my Maryland county, this amounts to 640 acres of land seized - the bulk of which cuts through working farmland and 200-year-old forests. According to the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy (ESLC), Pepco Holdings, Inc (PHI) has stated that they do not anticipate the project will bring jobs to local counties, nor do they anticipate utilizing local contractors to do the work.

Pot Pirates

Drug traffickers are planting millions of marijuana plants on U.S. public lands ever closer to tourist sites, guarding their plots with heavy weaponry, federal authorities say.

Though traffickers have been planting on public lands for years, figures from the U.S. Forest Service indicate the sheer volume of marijuana plants on public land has increased every year since 2005 — by millions. And those are just the plants that the government knows about and has destroyed.

Most pot farms are cultivated by low-level cartel workers, many who are working to pay off smugglers who helped them cross the border, officials have said. Campsites are sophisticated and well hidden, with foxholes and sniper nests, Arthur told CNN.

Lockerbie: Megrahi Was Framed

The American satirist Larry David once addressed a voluble crony as "a babbling brook of bullsh*t." Such eloquence summarizes the circus of Megrahi’s release.

No one in authority has had the guts to state the truth about the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 above the Scottish village of Lockerbie on 21 December 1988 in which 270 people were killed. The governments in England and Scotland in effect blackmailed Megrahi into dropping his appeal as a condition of his immediate release. Of course there were oil and arms deals under way with Libya; but had Megrahi proceeded with his appeal, some 600 pages of new and deliberately suppressed evidence would have set the seal on his innocence and given us more than a glimpse of how and why he was stitched up for the benefit of "strategic interests."

Obama Regulation Czar Advocated Removing People’s Organs Without Explicit Consent

Cass Sunstein, President Barack Obama’s nominee to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), has advocated a policy under which the government would “presume” someone has consented to having his or her organs removed for transplantation into someone else when they die unless that person has explicitly indicated that his or her organs should not be taken.

Under such a policy, hospitals would harvest organs from people who never gave permission for this to be done.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Hey, if it's good enough for Israel, it's good enough for us!!!" -- Official White Horse Souse

Now, I support organ donations to save lives. When I die I want you to recycle as much as you can and donate the rest to science because even medical students need a good laugh.

But, I agree that the right to choose the disposition of ones remains is a personal right into which the government may not intrude without explicit consent from the deceased or the immediate family.

For the government to presume the right to remove and re-use organs from a dead body implies government ownership of said body and government control and ownership of people is prohibited by the 13th and 14th Amendments.

Chinese police break up Urumqi protests with teargas

Chinese security forces used teargas to disperse protesters in Urumqi today, state media have reported, one day after tens of thousands took to the streets demanding improved security and the resignation of a top official following alleged syringe attacks.

The state news agency Xinhua said more than 1,000 demonstrators confronted armed police, blocking them from approaching government offices today, while a smaller group of around 100 gathered elsewhere in the capital of China's restive northwestern region of Xinjiang. Reuters reported that hundreds of Han Chinese tried to push their way through security barriers to a Uighur neighbourhood earlier in the morning.

Hidden in Olmert Indictment Are Charges That He Swindled U.S. Jews

The Israeli leader, prosecutors charge, bilked 17 prominent North American Jewish charities and pro-Israel advocacy groups for his own benefit.

American Jewish and pro-Israel organizations unwittingly ponied up tens of thousands of dollars in false travel expenses for Olmert that he then used as a personal travel fund for himself and for his friends and family, according to the indictment handed up in Israel.

In a three-year period, Olmert allegedly swindled American Jewish groups out of some $50,000 that they paid, at the request of his travel coordinator, in double and sometimes triple travel expenses. Olmert and his family allegedly used the extra funds for private travel and vacations.

Israel To Establish Military Court For Palestinian Children

At present there are 342 Palestinian children in Israeli prisons, who are commonly held in inhumane conditions, with adult detainees and sometimes with Israeli prisoners who have committed criminal offences. The looming political war over Afghanistan

There was a time, not all that long ago, when the U.S. pretended that it viewed war only as a "last resort," something to be used only when absolutely necessary to defend the country against imminent threats. In reality, at least since the creation of the National Security State in the wake of World War II, war for the U.S. has been everything but a "last resort." Constant war has been the normal state of affairs. In the 64 years since the end of WWII, we have started and fought far more wars and invaded and bombed more countries than any other nation in the world -- not even counting the numerous wars fought by our clients and proxies. Those are just facts. History will have no choice but to view the U.S. -- particularly in its late imperial stages -- as a war-fighting state.

Russia Threatens ‘Armed Incident’ Over Georgian Blockade of Abkhazia

Russia’s Foreign Ministry today warned that Georgia’s continued blockade of their mutual neighbor Abkhazia could end with “a serious armed incident.” Georgia’s Navy has been chasing cargo ships away from the Abkhaz Republic, and has recently captured two ships including an fuel tanker from Turkey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why Georgia is attempting to "bait" Russia into a military confrontation makes no sense, except for one possibility.

Deepening crisis surrounds Middle East talks

Any freeze, however temporary, is anathema to Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition partners and the ultranationalist and religious movements that are committed to an expansionary policy and opposed to any form of Palestinian state. The Palestinian Authority for its part views a total freeze on settlement construction as essential if talks on the establishment of a Palestinian state are to restart.

Obama has made clear that all that is on offer is a demilitarised and bifurcated state comprising Gaza and the West Bank, which would consist of several non-contiguous blocks, penned in by an eight-metre-high concrete wall and controlled by Israel.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This offer is an absolute non-starter for the Palestinians, and Netanyahu knows it; that's why it's the only offer he'll put on the table.

Obama had better understand, and highly rapidly, that Israel has no interest in a lasting peace with Palestinians; what they want is more territory for Israel, acquired by any means necessary.

Now, I don't agree with what Pat Buchanan wrote about Hitler. But I am a supporter and defender of the First amendment of the Constitution.

It is easy to support freedom of speech when the speaker is saying something you agree with. The real test of your commitment to principles comes when confronted with a speaker (or author) promoting ideas you find offensive.

In this test, ABCNNBBCBS has utterly failed, preferring to sell out the Constitution to Israeli influence. Taliban's Tank-Killing Bombs Came From US, Not Iran

In support of the official U.S. assertion that Iran is arming its sworn enemy, the Taliban, the head of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), Dennis Blair, has cited a statement by a Taliban commander last year attributing military success against NATO forces to Iranian military assistance.

But the Taliban commander's claim is contradicted by evidence from the U.S. Defence Department, Canadian forces in Afghanistan and the Taliban itself that the increased damage to NATO tanks by Taliban forces has come from anti-tank mines provided by the United States to the jihadi movement in Afghanistan in the 1980s.

Citing the fact that Obama’s green jobs czar Van Jones, who is increasingly and justifiably coming under fire from conservatives in light of his Communist rhetoric and his socialist ideals, signed a petition in 2004 calling for a proper investigation into whether the U.S. government allowed 9/11 to happen, Beck and others have used the “9/11 truther” label as a smear with which to further attack Van Jones’ credibility.

Mormons Become Victims in $50 Million Scam to Sell Gold Bullion

Like those caught up in other get-rich scams -- from Bernard Madoff’s $65 billion Ponzi scheme, which initially snared wealthy Jews, to an alleged $4.4 million fraud aimed at deaf people -- Tri Energy’s investors had something in common. Many were Mormons and born-again Christians who shared dreams and prayers on nightly conference calls. They vowed to use the profits for charitable works and kept raising funds, at times taking out second mortgages, draining retirement accounts and recruiting relatives.

While the delays and pleas for more money never stopped, the charade did.

The Siege, "a clear example of psychology warfare."

Recently I saw the motion picture The Siege (1998), starring Denzel Washington and Bruce Willis. For those who haven’t seen it. The movie is about a wave of terror attacks in New York by Islamic fundamentalist, and is lead by a Sheik called Ahmed Bin Talal. As the terror attacks continue, the US government responds by declaring martial law, sending US troops, into the streets of New York City.

Terror attacks, Islamic fundamentalist, New York and a Sheik with ‘Bin’ in the name. One can’t help start thinking about the tragic events of 9/11. So during the movie I began to wonder… who wrote the script of the movie? So I visited the Internet Movie Database website to find out.

US's 'arc of instability' just gets bigger

The New Great Game is not only focused on the face-off between the United States and strategic competitors Russia and China - with Pipelineistan as a defining element.

The full spectrum dominance doctrine requires the control of the Pentagon-coined "arc of instability" from the Horn of Africa to western China. The cover story is the former "global war on terror", now "overseas contingency operations" under the management of President Barack Obama's administration.

Don't Criticize Israel, You Anti-Semite

According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, the definition of anti-Semitism is, "hostility towards or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic or racial group." This should strike everyone as odd, since Jews are hardly the only Semitic people roaming this earth. Most oddly enough, we Arabs are also a Semitic people who speak a Semitic language, unlike many Jews who do not.

Still, over the years, for whatever reason, the term "anti-Semitic" has been reserved exclusively for attacks on Jews, the range of which has become dangerously broad. While this is an age-old issue, so to speak, the recent Swedish-Israeli crisis has brought it back to the fore like never before.

Health care reform means more power for the IRS

There's been a lot of discussion about the new and powerful federal agencies that would be created by the passage of a national health care bill. The Health Choices Administration, the Health Benefits Advisory Committee, the Health Insurance Exchange — there are dozens in all.

Best video explaining Constitutional limits of power

The US Constitution was born from war against tyranny - the word of choice for unconstrained government that acted harmfully toward the public's political and economic interests. The Founding Fathers had much to say in defense of citizen vigilence for liberty, for only we can protect our freedom:

“A mere demarcation on parchment of the constitutional limits (of government) is not a sufficient guard against those encroachments which lead to a tyrannical concentration of all the powers of government in the same hands.” - James Madison, Federalist Paper #48, 1788.

Abraham Lincoln on defending the US Constitution: his message to YOU today

What most people do not know is that Abraham Lincoln is also a hero for his acts as a freshman member of the House of Representatives in the Congress of 1847-1849. Lincoln demanded that the President of the US provide specific evidence justifying the US invading a foreign country, suspecting that the President’s claims of a defensive war were lies to propagandize an offensive war for territorial control against a weaker nation. He did so despite the lack of support from most of his own political party. He demanded the facts despite his being painted by political opponents and the press as “unpatriotic.” The propaganda defeated Lincoln at his next election; his name slurred as “spotty Lincoln.” Lincoln was correct that the US President had indeed lied about the cause of war.

Super Fast PCs Near As Chip Passes Maths Test

Super-fast and ultra-small computers have been brought one step closer to reality with the successful test of a new penny-sized chip.

The optical quantum chip does away with traditional circuitry and instead uses particles of "whizzing" light.

Scientists asked the "photonic" chip to find the prime factors of 15 and, although it took longer to work it out than a schoolchild could have, it produced the answer - 3 x 5.

The test is a massive breakthrough because it is the first time the chip's processing power has been condensed into such a small size.

President Obama: no hope and no change from the plutocracy – oligarchy

note: hyperlinks and video live at source.

Oligarchs and plutocrats remove government policy from the public good to the greatest extent possible without causing revolution. David Swanson paints the Obama Administration as Bush’s Third Term with accuracy. His new book, Daybreak: Undoing the Imperial Presidency and Forming a More Perfect Union, is number 1 in three categories on Amazon’s bestselling lists as I just looked. David makes many of the same points as I do about Wars of Aggression and related policies (see here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here).

Carbon scandal snares Australian

AN AUSTRALIAN company has been swept up in a $100 million carbon trading scandal in Papua New Guinea.

The scandal has led to the removal of the head of the country's Office of Climate Change and has prompted an investigation into claims that fake carbon trading certificates were used to persuade landowners to sign over the rights to their forests.

Why Not Crippling Sanctions For Israel And The US?

The US is not a forever "superpower" that can indefinitely ignore its own laws and international law.

The US will eventually fall as a result of its hubris, arrogance, and imperial overreach.

When the American Empire collapses, will its enablers also be held accountable in the war crimes court?

NKorea says in final phase of uranium enrichment

North Korea said Friday it has entered the final phase of uranium enrichment for nuclear weapons and is also building more bombs with spent reactor fuel rods.

After the United Nations imposed tougher sanctions in June following its May 25 nuclear test, the North vowed to start such a programme and to extract plutonium from fuel rods.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, the US taught North Korea - and the world - a very compelling object lesson in what happens to countries without a nuclear deterrent by its invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq.

Diebold sells Premiere Election Solutions to competitor ES&S

Diebold, maker of touch-screen voting systems that have brought controversy after controversy upon the company, said Thursday that it will sell off most of it’s elections-related business, calling it a losing investment and a persistent “distraction.

“Perhaps the biggest loss was to the company’s image,” added the Canton Rep. “Key among its problems was a 2003 statement by then Chairman and CEO Walden O’Dell — a well-known Republican supporter and fundraiser — that he was committed to delivering the vote for President George W. Bush.

Microsoft pushes for single global patent system

"In today's world of universal connectivity, global business and collaborative innovation, it is time for a world patent that is derived from a single patent application, examined and prosecuted by a single examining authority and litigated before a single judicial body," said Guiterrez. "A harmonized, global patent system would resolve many of the criticisms leveled at national patent systems over unmanageable backlogs and interminable pendency periods."

All government cost studies: sheltering the homeless is most cost-effective

The US Interagency Council on Homelessness has found that all cost-benefit analyses show that paying for the homeless to have minimal housing, food, health care, and job counseling costs less than public costs of their street life. The greatest savings come from decreased emergency room visits, police calls, and court time. What isn't counted, and significant, is the increase of business in areas where the homeless are vagrants. In addition, these studies show most of these participants find jobs and leave these programs.

As always, please share this with all who say they want to be responsible citizens.

Who are Broderian anti-investigation journalists really protecting?

This is a vital reason -- I'd say the central reason -- why people like David Broder and his media colleagues don't want investigations and prosecutions: because they were complicit in most of it, and such proceedings would implicate them as much as the criminals themselves. Think about it: what would happen if Dick Cheney were "in the dock," if high-level American officials were adjudicated in formal proceedings as war criminals and felons? The question would naturally arise: how was that allowed to happen? What did the American media do about it while it happened? What was the Dean of the Washington Press Corps saying and doing to stop it and to alert the citizenry as to what was going on? And the answer, of course, is: nothing. They supported the war criminals and mocked and demonized those who objected.
