Big Isle telescope discovers giant galaxy, huge black hole

HONOLULU (AP) - Scientists using the Subaru telescope on the Big Island reported the discovery of a giant galaxy surrounding the most distant supermassive black hole ever found.

The galaxy located 12.8 billion light-years from Earth is as large as our own Milky Way galaxy, the University of Hawaii's Institute for Astronomy said Wednesday. The universe itself is thought to be 13.7 billion years old.

''It is surprising that such a giant galaxy existed when the universe was only one-sixteenth of its present age, and that it hosted a black hole 1 billion times more massive than the sun. The galaxy and black hole must have formed very rapidly in the early universe,'' University of Hawaii astronomer Tomotsugu Goto said.

Can vaccinations actually fuel pandemics? According to a study released August 26, 2009 by the British Medical Journal, more than half of Hong Kong's healthcare workers surveyed said they would refuse the H1N1 shot, which is not yet available, because they are afraid of side effects and doubt how safe and effective it will be.

More importantly, the study suggested the trend would be repeated worldwide.

Telegraphs Ran on Electric Air in Crazy 1859 Magnetic Storm

9/11 and Anthrax: FRAMING ARABS

There are two suspects accused of being the source of the Anthrax letters. The first is Dr. Philip Zack, who was caught on camera entering the storage area where the Anthrax was kept without proper authorization after being fired from his job for a racially motivated attack on an Egyptian coworker. The second suspect is the more well known Dr. Stephen Hill, accused (and re-accused and re-accused) by Dr. Barbara Rosenberg although no actual evidence of his involvement has surfaced.

Cybersecurity Act Returns With a Fresh Coat of Paint

In April, we voiced serious concerns about the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, a bill by Senators Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME), that sought to give the federal government unprecedented power over the Internet. For months, the bill has been redrafted behind closed doors and has recently been circulated, but by all accounts, the changes are cosmetic and it's sadly more of the same.

Like the original bill, the new version appears to give the President carte blanche to decide which networks and systems, private or public, count as "critical infrastructure information systems or networks." And alongside that authority, there still appears to be murky language that would permit the President to shut down the Internet.

Israel ombudsman: U.S. deprived Jonathan Pollard of due process

The state comptroller said on Thursday that convicted spy Jonathan Pollard was not given due process by U.S. authorities, adding that Israeli governments had continually attempted to secure his release over the years.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported in:

"Why Pollard Should Never Be Released", by Seymour Hersh, New York er Magazine, Jan 18, 1999:

"The career intelligence officer who helped to assess the Pollard damage has come to view Pollard as a serial spy, the Ted Bundy of the intelligence world. "Pollard gave them every message for a whole year," the officer told me recently, referring to the Israelis. "They could analyze it" -- the intelligence -- "message by message, and correlate it. They could not only piece together our sources and methods but also learn how we think, and how we approach a problem. All of a sudden, there is no mystery. These are the things we can't change. You got this, and you got us by the balls." In other words, the Rota reports, when carefully studied, gave the Israelis "a road map on how to circumvent" the various American collection methods and shield an ongoing military operation. The reports provide guidance on "how to keep us asleep, thinking all is working well," he added. "They tell the Israelis how to raid Tunisia without tipping off American intelligence in advance. That is damage that is persistent and severe."

The successive governments of Israel should count themselves lucky that the worst Pollard got was a life sentence for betraying his country.

Norway Boycotts Israeli Security Firm Elbit

The Norwegian government has decided to divest from the Israeli security company Elbit over the construction of a barrier in Judea and Samaria. Norway's finance minister, Kristin Halvorsen, announced the decision at a news conference on Thursday.

Norway's pension fund seeks foreign investments for surplus state revenue from the sale of oil and natural gas. The fund is currently worth roughly $395 billion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a very positive decision Norway made, and one which should be celebrated by people who honor the concept of human rights around the world.

And another thing to note: Norway actually has surplus state revenue, unlike the US government, which is currently drowning in debt.

Iran’s offer of nuclear talks hinders Security Council talks on sanctions

Western diplomats struggled yesterday to secure an agreement on imposing tougher sanctions on Iran in an attempt to end its nuclear programme.

The meeting of the five United Nations permanent Security Council members and Germany was complicated by a last-minute offer of talks from Saeed Jalili, the top nuclear negotiator in Iran.

Former High-Ranking Intelligence Officer: Cheney Responsible for 9/11

US commander’s report paves way for military escalation in Afghanistan

The commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, has issued a dire assessment of the state of military operations there. The classified report sets the stage for an expansion of US troop levels in Afghanistan by as many as 45,000.

The report, which is just over ten pages long, admits that it will take a number of years before the US can create a functional Afghan security force. Congressional leaders are to be briefed on the report, once it is approved by Defense Secretary Robert Gates, but they will not be given copies of the document.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder what is potentially so "terrifying" in this 10 page document for congressional representatives that they are forbidden to actually read it themselves?!?

Last month's presidential and provincial council elections

Why Psychologists Are Infinitely More Dangerous Than Conspiracy Theorists

According to a Psychology Today hit piece written by psychologist John Gartner, people prone to thinking that powerful men might actually get together and plan to maintain and advance their power are borderline psychotics who are a danger to society. In reality, hundreds of years of history has taught us that psychologists routinely aid authoritarian regimes in enforcing tyrannical and inhumane policies while helping them crush political opposition by defining suspicion of authorities as a mental illness.

As we highlighted in our article yesterday, psychologists in the Soviet Union were used to stifle free speech by classifying skepticism and political opposition to the state as a mental illness, which is precisely the implication littered throughout Gartner’s crass hit piece.

Many Americans who thought that the health care debate was important must have wondered where their congressmen were in early August during the first two weeks of the House of Representatives recess. WHO Admits to Releasing Pandemic Virus into Population via 'Mock-Up' Vaccines

The document on the WHO website linked below states that it is common procedure to release pandemic viruses into the population in order to get a jump ahead of the real pandemic, so as to fast track the vaccine for when it is needed.

In Europe, some manufacturers have conducted advance studies using a so-called "mock-up" vaccine. Mock-up vaccines contain an active ingredient for an influenza virus that has not circulated recently in human populations and thus mimics the novelty of a pandemic virus.
According to the website, “Such advance studies can greatly expedite regulatory approval.”

Plenty of Threats as Iran ‘Deadline’ Looms

The Obama Administration has repeatedly put forth the month of September as the “deadline” for Iran to begin international talks regarding its nuclear program, and as the month begins Western officials are raising the prospect of massive new sanctions against the Iranian government to punish it.

This comes in spite of the fact that only yesterday Iran’s top negotiator, Said Jalili, said his nation was ready to enter such talks and had a new proposal to resolve the dispute which is was going to make available to Western nations as a result.

Webmaster's Commentary:

At the end of the day with Iran, as happened in Iraq, there will be nothing diplomatically Iran will be able to do to stave off this deadline, even with the most rational of proposals they may want to present.

Russia and China will not go along with further sanctions against Iran at the UN; The US and Israel understands that.

What we may well be looking at is some kind of "October Surprise", where there is some kind of a false flag used to demonize Iran, and off the US and Israel will go on another military misadventure to neutralize yet another of Israel's "existential threats" in the region.

And given its history of hubris, Israel may well do this, even though Russia and China have warned that such a confrontation may well lead to a new world war. And Russia has been very clear about which side they will be on, should such a confrontation occur.

Afghans Brace for Post-Election Violence

Karzai’s victory, coming amid widespread reports of fraud, is likely to create considerable unrest among opposition supporters. Only yesterday hundreds of tribal elders met in the capital city of Kabul to call for Karzai’s resignation and a fresh vote held under an interim government.

A re-vote seems unlikely but the discontent with the dubious results has many Afghans bracing for the possibility of post-election violence if Karzai is perceived as illegitimate. This might be particularly problematic as the nation is already seeing record violence from the insurgency.

Abkhazia threatens Georgian ships as possibility of Black Sea naval skirmish rises

Sergey Bagapsh, president of the Russian-backed statelet of Abkhazia, warned on Wednesday his tiny navy would "destroy" any Georgian vessels straying into Abkhaz territorial waters.

His dramatic threat followed Georgia's recent seizure of several cargo vessels on their way to and from Abkhazia. In an interview with Russian news agency Interfax, Mr Bagapsh described the seizures as "piracy," requiring what he called an "adequate response."

Experts estimate Abkhazia's navy numbers not more than half a dozen vessels.

In practice, they say, Russian vessels sailing under an Abkhaz flag would be likely to get involved in any standoffs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sergey Bagapsh would not be making these threats without the blessings of Moscow, knowing that Moscow will back them up militarily 100% should there be an escalation of hostilities.

Russia condemns Georgia's attempts to seize ships off Abkhazia

[T]he Decision in the long-awaited section 13 “hate crimes” complaint Warman v. Lemire finally appeared on the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal’s website:

Psychology Today Hit Piece Labels Conspiracy Thinking A Psychotic Illness

n an article entitled Dark Minds: When does incredulity become paranoia, Psychology Today writer John Gartner attempts to make the case that the concerns of “conspiracy theorists” are not based in reality but are a product of mental instability, while himself fulfilling every criteria for what he claims classifies such people as psychotics – ignoring evidence that contradicts his preconceptions while embracing the ludicrous “conspiracy theory” that powerful men and governments do not conspire to advance their power.

What Would the United States Look Like Without the Federal Reserve?

Since H.R. 1207 was introduced by Dr. Ron Paul in Congress this February, there has been a growing movement which questions whether the Fed should continue to operate without more oversight and some question whether or not the Federal Reserve should continue to operate at all.

Currenty, Paul’s “Audit the Fed” legislation has 282 co-sponsors and there are two similar pieces of legislation in the senate. If the legislation is passed, it will allow the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to review the Federal Reserve’s balance sheets and their policy deliberations and monetary transactions. Currently Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke, opposes the plan, saying it would undermine the Fed’s independence.

Afghanistan for Dummies

I’m going to ask for my money back. I’ve seen this Afghanistan movie before. The first time, Vietnam was in the title.

As in an early scene from the Vietnam version, U.S. military officials are surprised to discover that the insurgents in Afghanistan are stronger than previously realized.

And our protagonist, Gen. Westmoreland — sorry, I mean McChrystal — sees the situation as serious but salvageable. As Westmoreland did with President Lyndon Johnson, McChrystal is preparing to tell President Barack Obama that thousands of more troops are needed to achieve the U.S. objective — whatever that happens to be.

Bush's Third Term - You're Living It

Bush's Third Term?

You're Living It

By David SwansonIt sounds like the plot for the latest summer horror movie. Imagine, for a moment, that George W. Bush had been allowed a third term as president, had run and had won or stolen it, and that we were all now living (and dying) through it. With the Democrats in control of Congress but Bush still in the Oval Office, the media would certainly be talking endlessly about a mandate for bipartisanship and the importance of taking into account the concerns of Republicans. Can't you just picture it?

U.S. consumer bankruptcies up 24 percent in August

Bankruptcy filings by U.S. consumers rose 24 percent in August compared with a year earlier and could reach 1.4 million this year, according to an American Bankruptcy Institute and National Bankruptcy Research Center report released on Wednesday.

Heroic James Traficant Freed

His so-called crimes were essentially victimless — they didn’t harm you or me at all. Meanwhile, from the House floor he called (loudly) for an end to the IRS (”Internal Rectal Service,” as he put it), attacked Janet Reno for her role in the Waco massacre, and attacked the Clintons for their misdeeds. Given all that, do you think that a few petty bribes are the real reason his fellow Democrats kicked him out of Congress and sent him to prison?

The Record of the Federal Reserve

In other words, the value of the dollar remained extremely stable for 150 years, the Fed was created in order to "stabilize the value of the dollar," and the result has been a 95% devaluation of the dollar in less than 100 years following its creation.

Bernanke threatens economic crash if Congres audits Fed: damning video of Congressional testimony

The 7-minute video from TJefferson's Ghost is one of the best I've ever seen in economics. It begins with Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke threatening an economic crash if Congress audits the Fed, moves to revelaing headlines of financial corporate profits after taxpayers socialized their gambling losses, then closes with Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner telling Congress that TARP is really a pertetual line of $700 billion credit for him to do with as he pleases as long as Bernanke agrees. That means, if Treasury can sell the troubled assets, that money returns to Geithner's private reserve to buy more assets. As you may know, Harvard's Elizabeth Warren, the chair for the Oversight Panel, reported to the Senate that Treasury is over-paying corporations by about 50%.

UK pledges extra $11bn to IMF to tackle crisis

The UK has promised an extra $11bn of standby finance for the IMF, which will be used to support countries that are struggling in the face of the economic crisis.

This sum, on top of the initial $15bn pledged in spring could be drawn on within months since the IMF’s original war chest is understood to be close to running dry after it has had to come to the rescue of various countries, including Iceland and Pakistan.

'LAF set to receive Iranian weaponry'

The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) has accepted an offer by Iran to provide it with weapons produced by the Iranian defense industries, a newspaper in Lebanon reported on Wednesday. According to Al-Akhbar, the proposal was sent from the Iranian Embassy in Beirut.

The Jerusalem Post could not independently confirm the report.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, Jerusalem Post, if you cannot confirm this, why are you running this article, except to demonize Lebanon and Iran?

SEC on Madoff: "Oops, Our Bad"

The watchdog of the Securities and Exchange Commission has found the agency consistently mishandled its five investigations of Bernard Madoff's business, despite ample complaints over 16 years about the multibillion-dollar fraud.

But SEC inspector general David Kotz's report found no evidence of any improper ties between agency officials and Madoff.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yeah, but... they didn;t find any evidence that Madoff was doing anything wrong in the first place.

Nazi Monster Turns Out To Be FBI?

What a surprise!! Another 'Kosher-Clown' playing Nazi. Hal Turner talked about black crime, Hispanic immigrants, and the holocaust. Oddly he claimed that President Johnson forced the Israelis into attacking the USS Liberty in 1967. He never took a real position on 9/11, the OKC bombing, or other countless False Flags perpetrated by Zionists.

He was alleged to work with the FBI in conjunction with the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Goldman Sachs, the US Treasury, and criminal corruption: the interview that confirms what you always knew

If you haven't seen Matt Taibbi's interview with his documentation of Goldman Sachs involvement with the US Treasury and manipulations of our economy, it is a must see. This article also links to mainstream economists' and Pulitzer journalists' documentation and analysis of our plutocracy in rather storng language.

Hang the Zombieconomy by its Own Rope

Right now the biggest banks in the world are sitting on the biggest stockpiles of “excess” money ever, and the government is paying interest on these reserves. And why would bankers lend the money to people who might need it, or might be able to put it to good use, (especially in such turbulent times!) when they can instead earn risk-free profit? Banks do not need to compete for business when the government guarantees their profits and subsidizes their losses.

A Series of Spectacular Failures

So with a perfect 100% failure rate and a record that proves that each and every “service” shoved down our throats by an over-reaching government turns into disaster, how could any informed American trust our government to run or even set policies for America’s health care system – - 17% of our economy?

We Don't Need No Thought Control

This is the latest development in the glorification of the president and the nationalization of American children through the increasingly federalized school system. We saw it under Bush, with No Child Left Behind and the erroneous willingness of Americans to call him "our commander in chief"—as opposed to the commander in chief of the Armed Forces. It is only getting worse today.

Doctor, they lie about taxes, wars and health care. Is there no one I can trust?

The therapist and the patient have a meeting of the minds:

T: What brings you to my office?

P: I have feelings of being exploited by others. I believe there is constant deception around me. I question the loyalty and trustworthiness of people who are supposed to have my best interest at heart.

T: When did you first notice the symptoms?

P: I think it started with Bush 41 when he said: "Read my lips. No new taxes."

Md. Gov. Calls Seasonal Flu Shots a 'Patriotic Duty'

Iran nuclear “threat” hyped: IAEA’s ElBaradei

Iran is not going to produce a nuclear weapon any time soon and the threat posed by its atomic program has been exaggerated, the U.N. nuclear watchdog chief said in a published interview.

The West suspects Iran wants to develop a nuclear weapons capability under the guise of a declared civilian atomic energy program. Tehran rejects the charge, saying its uranium enrichment program is a peaceful way to generate electricity.

Mohamed ElBaradei, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said there was no concrete evidence that Tehran has an ongoing nuclear weapons program.

Texas Advance Directives Act legalizes "death panel "

Ward: Are end-of-life directives a choice or medical coercion
Posted Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009
By JERRI LYNN WARD
Special to the Star-Telegram
The facts are that advance directives to provide treatments are meaningless in Texas and we already have "death panels," courtesy of the Texas Advance Directives Act (TADA). Our "death panels" are called hospital "ethics committees" and TADA allows them to decide to terminate life-sustaining treatments despite the advance directives and wishes of patients and families.
Given the way that medical providers and ethicists have wielded TADA, we should be very wary about government mandates for "end-of-life" counseling, especially when such mandates provide incentives to ration and deny care.

Video: Letterman's take on Chris Wallace and his Cheney interview

After watching Chris Wallace interview Dick Cheney this week on Fox News, Andrew Sullivan said it was like "a teenage girl interviewing the Jonas Brothers." He, and other critics, were disturbed by the "soft" nature of the questions and thought more should be asked of a man who has been so vocal in defending torture and criticizing the current administration.

Even higher taxes coming for Californians

Reporting from Sacramento - While Californians are still feeling the sting of income and sales tax hikes signed into law earlier this year, now comes news that state tax authorities plan to take a little more from their pockets.

For only the second time in 30 years, the tax board is lowering the point where each tax bracket begins, bumping many people into a higher category. At the same time, officials are cutting back some deductions. Everyone will pay more, even people whose bracket or income doesn't change.

The extra sums will total as much as $140 per family, on top of the increases previously enacted.

Astronomers snap most distant black hole in universe, which is 1bn times bigger than the Sun

Astronomers have discovered a supermassive black hole near the edge of the known universe.

It lies within a galaxy the size of the Milky Way, which is 12.8billion light-years from Earth. The light from this galaxy has travelled for most of the universe's 13.7billion-year lifespan to reach us.

Most scientists believe the universe is rapidly expanding following a catastrophic event known as the Big Bang.

...

Study leader Dr Goto said: 'It is surprising that such a giant galaxy existed when the universe was only one-sixteenth of its present age, and that it hosted a black hole one billion times more massive than the sun.

2,044 days under the Iron heel of the CHRC

For me, the whole thing started on November 24, 2003, when serial Section 13 complainant Richard Warman signed a complaint against me and a separate but identical complaint against my website, the Freedomsite. Over the intervening 2,044 days, my lawyer – Barbara Kulaszka and I have absolutely crushed the Canadian Human Rights Commission and exposed many of their spying operations, tainted investigations and dirty corrupt underbelly.

Indoctrination Alert! Protect your kids on Sept. 8th

This Tuesday Sept. 8th President Obama is planning to address the nation's school children DIRECTLY, through a live internet broadcast at 12 noon. If you do not want Obama to have access to your children to say whatever he wants to them during their school hours without you being there, there are a few things you can do:

-Call the school's principal to find out whether the school was planning to show the speech, and if they are, let the principal know that you feel the role of the school is to educate, not to indoctrinate, and that you do not consent to have your child spoken to directly by any politician or government official, for any reason. Maybe if enough parents call, the school will not show the speech to students.

VIEWPOINT: Students need to be able to make informed decision on military service

The federal No Child Left behind Act of 2001 contains a little-known provision that threatens the federal funding of any school refusing to turn over the personal contact information of students in grades 7 through 12 to military recruiters. This action is in violation of the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

Given the current economic recession, more high school age youth are considering joining the military. At this impressionable age, we must entrust our public schools with the responsibility to protect our children's rights to privacy. Students and parents have complained of multiple cell and home phone calls from military recruiters as well as uninvited recruiters arriving at their houses.

Throw-back Civilization

Jews who compulsively vomit the ubiquitous epithet "cancerous" whenever in danger of having to examine their own collective conscience with regard to Israel makes me wonder whether the bulk of them think for themselves anymore or are just mainstream-conditioned robots like so many westerners, who in spite of a claim of superiority to the rest of the world, nevertheless express semi-independent opinions only on things that are incidental in the long run, like music, movies, fashion and sports.

And when they repeat over and over: "Why us? Why not the Chinese?" are they so mentally fogged that they can't see that Israel claims to be a democracy, and that the West claims that Israel shares its "values", and that the West has long financially supported Israel at taxpayers' expense - the US in generous cash payments (which no doubt has ended up in the coffers of the weapons manufacturers - another way that corporations grow fat on the back of the worker who can't even afford health care) and Canada by allowing millions of dollars worth of tax free status to the Jewish National Fund which overtly and proudly supports apartheid conditions in Israel?
