That Flu You Caught? It Came from East and Southeast Asia

Over the years this was my observation. I remember the Hong Kong Flu. Comedians made jokes about it on Johnny Carson. The Beverley Hillbillies did a show on it that was really funny. It was almost a status symbol to have had it and it killed I think a couple of million people worldwide.

An international team of scientists has determined the itinerary of the seasonal flu, paving the way for better monitoring and more effective vaccines.

The researchers report in Science that they sussed out the bug's travel plans by studying 13,000 samples of the virus collected from every continent (except Antarctica) over the past five years.

PEPE ESCOBAR: Who Profits from the Pandemic? April 8, 2020

You don’t need to read Michel Foucault’s work on biopolitics to understand that neoliberalism – in deep crisis since at least 2008 – is a control/governing technique in which surveillance capitalism is deeply embedded.

But now, with the world-system collapsing at breathtaking speed, neoliberalism is at a loss to deal with the next stage of dystopia, ever present in our hyper-connected angst: global mass unemployment.

U.K. Says Millions of Coronavirus Test Kits Bought From China Are Unreliable for Most Patients

The British government will seek refunds for millions of coronavirus test kits purchased from China, after a study of the products found them to be unreliable for use with most patients.

Professor John Bell, coordinator of coronavirus testing for Public Health England, said Monday that the antibody tests are not reliable when used on any patients who do not qualify as severely ill—i.e. most people being tested.

Australian digital-radio-for-railways Huawei project derailed by US trade sanctions against Chinese tech giant

One of Huawei’s flagship projects in Australia has been called off because, as the state government put it, “trade restrictions imposed by the US government create a force majeure event that cannot be overcome.”

The Public Transport Authority of Western Australia, which wants to spend AU$136m (US$82m, £66.5m) to replace its analogue radio systems with a shiny new digital network, has therefore pulled out of the deal on the grounds of force majeure: something catastrophic and unforeseen has occurred.

Huawei and engineering firm UGL won the contract together in 2018, forming the HUGL Consortium to get the job done.

Gordon Chang: U.S. Should Seize China’s $1 Trillion in Treasury Obligations as Coronavirus Compensation

America can seize China’s holdings of U.S. Treasury obligations as compensation for the one-party state’s negligence related to the coronavirus pandemic, said Gordon Chang, Daily Beast columnist and author of The Great U.S.-China Tech War, offering his remarks on Monday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight with host Rebecca Mansour and special guest host Ed Martin.

China owns approximately $1.2 trillion in U.S. Treasury holdings.

NATO’s nemeses Russia & China help its member-states amid Covid-19 pandemic FAR MORE than the alliance itself

NATO, struggling to justify its existence, has found a new role for itself — as an indefatigable fighter against the Covid-19 pandemic. But so far, it has contributed significantly less to this fight than its supposed rivals.
During a NATO foreign ministers meeting, held earlier this month by secure video conference, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg declared, “NATO was created to deal with crises. So we can help and our Alliance is playing its part.” NATO was on the case. But what exactly was it doing? Here Stoltenberg became vague: NATO would apparently offer “logistical, transport and medical help” to member-states fighting the pandemic.

Russia and China have of course been providing “logistical, transport and medical help” all over the world for weeks, but NATO makes it sound as if it alone is doing anything, and rushes to take credit for aid that in reality has nothing to do with the alliance.

US Marine Corps Is Deathly Afraid It Doesn’t Have a Role to Play Against China

The only aspect of the Corps that is being increased – and it’s a huge increase – is land based anti-ship missiles. Clearly, the Commandant views the Marine’s main mission, now, as sea control which, as we’ve discussed, is an idiotic concept that is simply not viable.

Even the F-35/aviation side of the Corps is going to take a substantial hit. Previous Commandants sacrificed the ground element to promote the aviation side and now it appears that, too, is fading, all so that the Commandant can attempt to take over a Navy mission in a bid to remain budget-relevant in the face of the China threat. The irony is that the sea control mission will actually make the Marines irrelevant.

Chinese Lab Theory Where Coronavirus Started Takes Off Amid Claims Staff ‘Got Infected After Being Sprayed With Blood’

“Senior sources in the British government say that while ‘the balance of scientific advice’ is still that the deadly virus was first transmitted to humans from a live animal market in Wuhan, a leak from a laboratory in the Chinese city is ‘no longer being discounted,'” The Mail reported.

One member of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s emergency committee said last night that while the latest intelligence did not dispute the virus was ‘zoonotic’ – originating in animals – it did not rule out that the virus first spread to humans after leaking from a Wuhan laboratory.

Has The US Cold War Shifted From Russia To China?

Starting in the Obama administration the U.S. increased its full spectrum dominance campaign against Russia as an extension of its goals to destabilize the entire Middle East.

Russia’s intervention into the war in Syria after the so-called Arab Spring across North Africa emerged over an eighteen month period as the demarcation line between the unipolar moment of U.S. hegemony and the beginning of the multi-polar world now well underway.

From the moment President Putin brokered an agreement to halt the U.S. invasion of Syria over the chemical weapons attack blamed on Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad Putin has been the main focus of U.S. foreign policy.

That focus has shifted now.

China Prepares To Close "Oil Deal Of A Lifetime" In Iraq

Over the past week or so, China has eased quarantine measures in Wuhan – the city in which the global coronavirus pandemic began – with the entire lockdown scheduled to end on 8 April. With China’s President Xi Jinpiang having visited the city just a few days ago, the industrial economy across China as a whole is back working and operating at levels even above the pre-coronavirus rates, although the service sector remains more cautious.

For the oil industry, this means that China is back and busy taking up where it left off in terms of exploring and developing new field opportunities.

This is at a time when the U.S. is just beginning to see the full onset of coronavirus mayhem.

“Before these test kits arrived, we only had hundreds left,” the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Times of Israel. “Now, we have a significant amount.”

Palestinian medical institutions have only 295 respirators – 175 in the West Bank and 120 in Gaza – a report published by the PA on March 26 said.

China rolls out the Health Silk Road

When President Xi Jinping was on a phone call in mid-March with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conti, before the arrival of a China Eastern flight from Shanghai to Milan full of medical help, the key takeaway was the Chinese pledge to develop a Health Silk Road (Jiankang Sichou Zhilu).

That was in fact already inbuilt in the Belt and Road Initiative playbook since at least 2017, under the framework of enhanced, pan-Eurasian health connectivity. The pandemic only accelerated the timeline. The Health Silk Road will run in parallel to the multiple overland Silk Road corridors and the Maritime Silk Road.

Beijing Ramps Up South China Sea War Drills As Pandemic Swallows West

China conducted war drills in the South China Sea this week as the COVID-19 pandemic terrorizes the US, forcing the Pentagon to divert its attention to the Homeland to manage the public health crisis that is unfolding rather than countering Beijing in the open seas.

Asia Times reports that in recent days China ramped up military drills and deployed military assets in the highly contested waters of the South China Sea, specifically in areas that are known to have massive fossil fuel reserves.

While some see China's nationalistic messaging as a bid to rally its people during difficult Covid-19 times, others view the increasingly aggressive naval maneuvers as a bid to exploit America's weakened condition to secure new advantage in the hot spot theater. -Asia Times

Chinese ship hits and sinks Vietnamese fishing boat in South China Sea, detains crew

A Vietnamese fishing boat with eight crew members on board was sunk after being hit by a Chinese ship near the disputed Paracel Islands, local authorities said on Friday, a move that may increase tension in the South China Sea.

“This is the first time a Chinese ship has hit and sunk boats in our commune this year,” said Nguyen Van Hai, a local official from the Quang Ngai province, a few hundred kilometres from the Paracel Islands.

Beijing claims almost all of the South China Sea as its territory and has built artificial islands with military-capable facilities over reefs and outcrops in the area, which are also claimed in part by Vietnam.

Here We Go Again: China Puts County On Lockdown After New Corona Cluster Emerges

China is no longer fixed.

Having lied for the past two months about the severity and the extent of coronavirus pandemic which its virologists started in Wuhan, eager to convey the message that the crisis "under control" just so people return to work, full of hope and enthusiasm, rejoicing at the surge in China's just as fabricated PMI numbers, and willing to work their asses off (with Beijing generously willing to risk everyone's lives as the alternative is a complete collapse in China's economy) earlier today the US finally cracked down on the relentless barrage of Chinese lies, when US intelligence accused China of deliberately lying about its coronavirus figures.

Then, in a miraculous coincidence, just moments later Reuters reported that a county in central China's Henan province announced on Wednesday it had "virtually banned all outbound movement of people, following several cases of coronavirus infection in the area."

China's Ports Brace for Second Hit as Virus Spread Wipes Out Exports

China's ports and shipping firms are bracing for a second wave of supply chain disruptions that may be deeper and more prolonged than during the country's coronavirus lockdown as the global spread of the virus chokes off international demand.

With Beijing reporting only sporadic domestic transmission of the coronavirus since March, workers have been allowed to return to posts, factories are restarting and ports are rushing to clear a backlog of cargoes.

But with virus outbreaks now overwhelming healthcare systems and shutting logistics channels in other major economies, exporters and industry analysts warn that global demand for products made and shipped out of China looks set to plunge.

US bought France-bound face masks for CASH from China – French official to RT

The US bought out a planeload of Chinese-made face masks right on the tarmac just as the haul of the much needed protective gear was about to set off for France, the head of a French region told RT.

Facing shortages of protective equipment amid the coronavirus outbreak, France has turned to China to procure the much-needed face masks.

After French legislature adopted a law on the emergent medical situation, local authorities were able to place an order on the equipment in China, paying for it upfront. All in all, his and other regions ordered some 60 million masks, the head of the south-eastern Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region Renaud Muselier told RT France on Wednesday.

People dying equals Coronavirus? An engineered virus?

I’ve detailed, in past articles, all the Chinese cases who have been diagnosed for no other reason than they have pneumonia, a traditional disease of major proportions in China. Studies estimate that roughly 300,000 citizens die of it every year. Which means there are millions of Chinese people who have develop pneumonia each year. Furthermore, the Chinese government quickly abandoned the idea of testing for the purported coronavirus—favoring instead, CT scans of the lungs. A finding of pneumonia was sufficient for a diagnosis of an “epidemic case.” That is absurd on its face. Pneumonia has many causes, none of which requires a new virus.

FBI Tactical Report Describes Chinese Biologist Carrying Viable SARS, MERS Viruses at Detroit Airport in 2018

An FBI tactical intelligence report obtained by Yahoo News describes an incident in November 2018, which shows that the agency had significant concerns about the bio-security threat posed by China.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at Detroit Metro Airport stopped a Chinese scientist carrying vials believed to contain the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) and SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) viruses.

“Inspection of the writing on the vials and the stated recipient led inspection personnel to believe the materials contained within the vials may be viable Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) materials,” says an unclassified FBI tactical intelligence report obtained by Yahoo News.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It seems to me that if the vials were labeled, they were samples being delivered to an American lab, not a covert weapon which would have been concealed inside some other item.

Italian State Media In 2015 Exposed Chinese Biological Experiments With Coronavirus To Infect Humans

Five years ago, Italian state owned media Company, Rai – Radiotelevisione Italiana, exposed dark efforts by China on viruses. The video, which was broadcast in November, 2015, showed how Chinese scientists were doing biological experiments on a SARS connected virus believed to be Coronavirus, derived from bats and mice, asking whether it was worth the risk in order to be able to modify the virus for compatibility with human organisms.

Chinese Biological Experiments

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF, in fact, the issues discussed are true, please remember that the US has had a biological weapons program signed into existence by Franklin Roosevelt, and has been with us for a total of 77 years.

I doubt like heck that China is the only country doing this kind of research; but perhaps, instead of experimenting slate wipers, like Covid-19, the scientific community on this planet should be working, collaboratively, to find ways healing humankind, rather than plotting to exterminate it.

ORONAVIRUS UN says India, China may not face recession, calls for USD 2.5 trillion coronavirus crisis package for developing nations

While the deadly coronavirus pandemic has claimed thousands of lives across the globe and pushed the global economy into recession, it is unlikely to impact the economies of India and China, the United Nations has said in its latest report.
"The world economy will go into recession this year with a predicted loss of global income in the trillions of dollars. This will spell serious trouble for developing countries, with the likely exception of China and the possible exception of India," a report published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said on Monday.

Age is not the only risk for severe coronavirus disease

WASHINGTON (AP) — Older people remain most at risk of dying as the new coronavirus continues its rampage around the globe, but they’re far from the only ones vulnerable. One of many mysteries: Men seem to be faring worse than women.

The graying of the population means some countries face particular risk. Italy has the world’s second oldest population after Japan. While death rates fluctuate wildly early in an outbreak, Italy has reported more than 80% of deaths so far were among those 70 or older.

Coronavirus Crisis Awakens a Sleeping Giant: China’s Youth

The coronavirus outbreak has mobilized young people in China, sounding a call to action for a generation that had shown little resistance to the ruling Communist Party’s agenda.

For much of their lives, many young Chinese have been content to relinquish political freedoms as long as the party upheld its end of an unspoken authoritarian bargain by providing jobs, stability and upward mobility. Now, the virus has exposed the limits of that trade-off.

Angry and agitated, many young Chinese are pushing back on the government’s efforts to conceal its missteps and its resistance to allowing civil society to help.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If, in fact, this virus is a bioweapon, introduced to China to seed destabilization here, would this, on top of an horrific economic slide, not been one of the design objectives for the introduction of such a weapon?!?

And BTW, when will a DNA decoding of this virus ever be available to the public?!?

Folks, if in fact, it was a bioweapon, even a bioweapon in development, no matter who developed it, the short answer is... never.

White House Axed CDC 'Eyes & Ears' On The Ground In China Months Before Outbreak

It appears Washington's first failing to protect against the spread of the deadly coronavirus began on what would be the 'front lines' months prior to the emergence of the pandemic.

A lengthy investigative report in Reuters found that the White House ordered the elimination of a key American Center for Disease Control (CDC) position in Beijing intended to monitor and study disease outbreaks in China.

The position was set up in cooperation with Chinese authorities prior to the currently deteriorating relations in this crucial area of combating the pandemic which has lately seen Trump and Pompeo resort to making repeat references to the “Chinese virus”.
