"The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable." -- H.L. Mencken

The sentence in the New York hush money case for former President Donald Trump could be the first time in U.S. history that a former president was sent to jail. This could happen next month.

A jury found the former president guilty in May of 34 criminal counts of falsifying business records to illegally influence the 2016 presidential election. Several experts told ABC News that the former president probably won’t go to prison before the 2024 election. Trump will be sentenced on July 11.

Five of the 14 lawyers and law professors who spoke to ABC News thought a prison sentence was likely. Two said the decision was close, and seven said they didn’t think a prison sentence was likely because of the difficulties in enforcing it, the lack of precedent for putting first-time offenders in jail, and the political effects of such a sentence.

Snopes.com, perhaps the most well-known fact-checking website, has finally confirmed — seven years later — that President Donald Trump did not refer to neo-Nazis in Charlottesville in August 2017 as “very fine people.”

The false claim was central to President Joe Biden’s election in 2020. He used it to launch his campaign in April 2019, claiming he had been inspired to run against President Trump because the latter called neo-Nazis “very fine people.”

Miscreants, as we know, tend to resist accusations that they’ve done wrong: they invent alibis, deny key facts, plead confusion, or make other excuses for their conduct. But Israel’s distinctive form of “affirmative denial” runs deeper, and sweeps more broadly, Saree Makdisi shows in Tolerance Is a Wasteland: Palestine and the Culture of Denial. Beyond merely covering up or refuting allegations, Israel has always promoted comforting counterimages — fairy tales, in effect — about its moral impeccability. The effect is to impugn critics’ motives and displace factual specifics with loud and emotional “affirmation of values such as tolerance, [and] diversity” – all to get away with “unspeakable – and unspoken of – crimes.”

Two NASA astronauts who rode to orbit on Boeing's Starliner are currently stranded in space aboard the International Space Station (ISS) after engineers discovered numerous issues with the Boeing spacecraft. Teams on the ground are now racing to assess Starliner's status.

Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were originally scheduled to return to Earth on June 13 after a week on the ISS, but their stay has been extended for a second time due to the ongoing issues. The astronauts will now return home no sooner than June 26th, according to NASA.

After years of delays, Boeing's Starliner capsule successfully blasted off on its inaugural crewed flight from Florida's Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 10:52 a.m. EDT on June 5. But during the 25-hour flight, engineers discovered five separate helium leaks to the spacecraft's thruster system.

Now, to give engineers time to troubleshoot the faults, NASA has announced it will push back the perilous return flight, extending the crew's stay on the space station to at least three weeks.

Government watchdog Judicial Watch is battling the Department of Justice over Special Counsel Robert Hur’s audiotapes with President Joe Biden.

On Friday, Judicial Watch asked a federal court to release the audiotapes Hur recorded when he interviewed Joe Biden for his classified documents probe.

The group also demands the court reject the DOJ’s attempt to rewrite the Freedom of Information Act to protect Biden.

Officials say the agency is arguing the tapes should be kept secret from the public to protect it from AI manipulation.

However, Judicial Watch claims that the DOJ is the one manipulating what the public sees regarding the investigation.

Russia’s intervention in Ukraine was triggered by the irresponsible and provocative rhetoric of US President Joe Biden and his administration about Kiev joining NATO, Donald Trump has said.

Trump, who is seeking a rematch with Biden for the presidency in November, made the comments during a conversation on foreign policy with ‘All-In’ podcast co-host David Sacks on Thursday.

“For 20 years, I heard that if Ukraine goes into NATO, it’s a real problem for Russia. I’ve heard that for a long time. And I think that’s really why this war started,” Trump said.

China's chokehold over U.S. military supplies leaves the West at the mercy of Beijing in the event of an all out war, a former army general has warned.

In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, retired U.S. Army Major General John G. Ferrari said he had 'grave concerns' about the America's ongoing reliance on China to equip its military.

Chinese manufacturers are deeply embedded in U.S. defense systems, providing critical technology and raw materials used in everything from air-to-air missiles to fighter jets.

General Ferrari, who served as a deputy commander for NATO in Afghanistan, admitted that Beijing could cripple America's ability to arm itself by cutting off supply lines.

Well, well, well, the FBI has been busy little bees, buzzing around to help their honey bear, Hunter Biden, avoid the hot seat. It appears this crooked and disgraced organization is pouring all their energy into this lately, and who can blame them? It seems the Biden boys are always up to no good.

This latest bombshell didn’t even come from the “Laptop From Hell.” Actually, it wasn’t in there. Instead, it’s courtesy of award-winning investigative journalist John Solomon, who obtained documents that revealed the FBI has known for about eight years now that Hunter and his partners were plotting to set up new ventures (money laundering?) in tax-friendly Liechtenstein. And we’re not talking about a million or anything chintzy like that. No. We’re talking about upwards of 120 million bucks.

As John points out, this is a secret that has been kept from the American public for eight long years.

Ten percent for the big guy?

Arizona delegates to the Republican National Convention gathered this month in a Phoenix suburb, showing up to get to know each other and learn about their duties.

Part of the presentation included a secret plan to throw the party’s nomination of Donald Trump for president into chaos.

The instructions did not come from “Never Trumpers” hoping to stop the party from nominating a felon when delegates gather in Milwaukee next month. They instead came from avowed “America First” believers hatching a challenge from the far right — a plot to release the delegates from their pledge to support Trump, according to people present and briefed on the meeting, slides from the presentation and private messages obtained by The Washington Post.

Webmaster addition: Who do these delegates think could be a more attractive candidate to voters than Trump? I smell a Democratic rat here!

President Joe Biden plans to be very aggressive during the debate with former President Donald Trump, according to a Biden campaign official.

Biden’s most important task will be “to show that he is not diminished and is capable of carrying out presidential duties in a second term,” Allan Lichtman, a history professor at American University, told the Financial Times on Friday.

“[Biden] needs to shake things up,” political analyst Charlie Cook said. “Debates usually don’t, but certainly could. There are not many known potential inflection points in presidential races, but debates are certainly a possibility.”

A whopping 67 percent of voters believe Biden is too old to serve a second term, Quinnipiac polling recently found.

Costco has recalled 567,000 portable battery chargers from stores across America.

There have been 120 reports of the device overheating while in use, including two very serious cases where they caused home fires.

The recall covers three models of the myCharge Power Hub All-In-One 10,000mAh portable charger.

Users must immediately stop using the devices, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said. Customers will get a free replacement from myCharge.

The chargers, priced around $40, were sold at Costco stores and online from January 2022 through November 2023.

Since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas last October, Bolivia and Colombia have severed their ties with the Jewish state. Chile, Jordan, and Brazil have recalled their ambassadors, whereas Türkiye has ceased its economic cooperation with Israel, in response to its brutality in Gaza.

Almost ten months have passed since Israel launched its war on Gaza following the deadly Hamas attack of October 7, which claimed the lives of more than 1,500 people and injured over 5,000 others.

In its struggle to dismantle Hamas and ensure it no longer poses a threat, Israel has left no stone unturned in its pursuit of militants. The problem is that in the process of doing so, it has also claimed the lives of innocent people. Although the numbers are disputed, Palestinian statistics show that more than 37,000 Palestinians – mainly women and children – have lost their lives. A recent poll revealed that more than 60% of Gazans have lost relatives in the conflict.

After a brutal, unprovoked attack by a homeless man at a McDonald's drive-through in Boyle Heights that left 74-year-old Jose Juan Rangel battered and bruised and his wife Maria Guadalupe Vargas Luna brain-dead, the family has received yet another blow. This time, the LA County District Attorney George Gascón's office states they plan to file a motion to dismiss the most severe charge against Charles Green, a felony count, and only keep the lesser charge of misdemeanor battery.

"The DA, in my opinion, is brushing it off. They're not really seeing the big picture of what impact the injuries that my dad and my stepmother suffered," says Veronica Rangel, the elderly couple's daughter.

In an email, the Deputy District Attorney explained: "The evidence does not establish proof of an intentional act that resulted in Ms. Vargas' fall."

It's not often that there are celestial events that are visible on Earth with the naked eye. However, such a cosmic "once-in-a-lifetime" event will happen very soon despite taking place some 3,000 light-years from Earth.

T Coronae Borealis – otherwise known as the Blaze Star or T CrB – is a binary system situated in the Northern Crown some 3,000 light-years from Earth. The system is comprised of a red giant and a white dwarf – a dead star about the size of Earth. The first recorded sighting of the T CrB nova was in 1217.

Through "relentless gravitational pull," the white dwarf strips hydrogen from the ancient red giant, which causes a buildup of pressure and heat. Once there is a critical level of pressure on the white dwarf, it triggers a massive thermonuclear explosion.

For T CrB, this explosive event reoccurs approximately every 80 years. The last such explosion happened in 1946. Based on observations of T Coronae Borealis, astronomers believe the Blaze Star is getting ready to explode again. The Blaze Star will remain intact after the explosion as opposed to a supernova which is a final explosion that ends a star's lifecycle.
