Thought for the day

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won.  There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall.  Think of it--always." -- Mahatma Gandhi

NEED SOME HELP!

In this interview, repeat guest Francis Boyle — whose background includes an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago, a juris doctor (lawyer) degree from Harvard and a Ph.D. in political science — shares his views on the latest efforts to instill fear in the public, this time about monkeypox.

For decades, Boyle has advocated against the development and use of bioweapons, which COVID-19 appears to be. He called for biowarfare legislation at the Biological Weapons Convention of 1972, and drafted the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act, which was passed unanimously by both houses of Congress and signed into law by George Bush, Sr. in 1989.

Early on in the pandemic, Boyle was sure COVID-19 was the result of a lab leak. In fact, he was one of the first to bring that up. Of course, for the past two-plus years, anyone who shared the lab leak theory was vilified, discredited, censored and deplatformed. Today, we know that information was true, and even mainstream media are starting to report on it.

AS A RAPIDLY ADVANCING climate emergency turns the planet ever hotter, the Dallas-based biotechnology company Colossal Biosciences has a vision: “To see the Woolly Mammoth thunder upon the tundra once again.” Founders George Church and Ben Lamm have already racked up an impressive list of high-profile funders and investors, including Peter Thiel, Tony Robbins, Paris Hilton, Winklevoss Capital — and, according to the public portfolio its venture capital arm released this month, the CIA.

Colossal says it hopes to use advanced genetic sequencing to resurrect two extinct mammals — not just the giant, ice age mammoth, but also a mid-sized marsupial known as the thylacine, or Tasmanian tiger, that died out less than a century ago. On its website, the company vows: “Combining the science of genetics with the business of discovery, we endeavor to jumpstart nature’s ancestral heartbeat.”

In-Q-Tel, its new investor, is registered as a nonprofit venture capital firm funded by the CIA. On its surface, the group funds technology startups with the potential to safeguard national security. In addition to its long-standing pursuit of intelligence and weapons technologies, the CIA outfit has lately displayed an increased interest in biotechnology and particularly DNA sequencing.

THE CEO OF Iron Mountain Inc. told Wall Street analysts at a September 20 investor event that the high levels of inflation of the past several years had helped the company increase its margins — and that for that reason he had long been “doing my inflation dance praying for inflation.”

The comment is an unusually candid admission of a dirty secret in the business world: corporations use inflation as a pretext to hike prices. “Corporations are using those increasing costs – of materials, components and labor – as excuses to increase their prices even higher, resulting in bigger profits,” Robert Reich, former Labor Secretary under Clinton, recently argued. Corporate profits are now at their highest level since 1950.

Talks of trouble brewing at Swiss investment bank Credit Suisse gained ground over the weekend, with Twitterati beginning to raise the specter of a Lehman-like collapse.

What Ails Credit Suisse: Credit Suisse has seen its fundamentals deteriorate rapidly, thanks to a combination of macroeconomic factors and company-specific malaise. The bank has been rocked by a string of scandals and mishaps that impacted its financials, with the most notable being the situation that arose from the collapse of U.S. hedge fund Archegos Capital, founded by Bill Hwang, in early 2021.

The Swiss bank had then warned of a significant impact after it exited positions with the fund. Additionally, the bank was fined by a Swiss court in June for the lax controls it had, which allowed one of its employees to help a Bulgarian drug ring launder money, the New York Times reported.

Home prices in the US have taken a turn and are now posting the biggest monthly declines since 2009.

Median home prices fell 0.98% in August from a month earlier, following a 1.05% drop in July, Black Knight Inc. said in a report Monday. The two periods mark the largest monthly declines since January 2009.

“Together they represent two straight months of significant pullbacks after more than two years of record-breaking growth,” said Ben Graboske, Black Knight Data and Analytics president.

The housing market is losing steam fast with skyrocketing mortgage rates driving affordability to the lowest level since the 1980s. The Federal Reserve has sought to curb inflation, which has thrown cold water on the US real estate boom.

Footage of a huge freight train moving specialist military equipment associated with a nuclear-arms wielding division of Russia's Defence Ministry has been spotted on the move, prompting fears of an escalation in the conflict from Putin's forces.

A series of BPM-97 armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and other military vehicles were seen travelling through central Russia in a clip posted on the Telegram messaging app by pro-Russian channel Rybar on Sunday.

The APCs are thought to have been upgraded with more capable turrets, reinforced ambush and mine-proof armour and an air purification system designed to allow its occupants to operate effectively in the face of sustained infantry attacks.

A Swedish 'DNA hunter' who effectively discovered that Neanderthals are still alive was today awarded a Nobel Prize.

Professor Svante Pääbo's 'seemingly impossible' task saw him prove interbreeding occurred between Homo Sapiens and our closest ancient relatives.

The 67-year-old, who received the congratulatory call while enjoying a cup of coffee at home this morning, also uncovered the 'sensational' existence of a once-unknown human species — the Denisovans.

Air Canada today welcomed the Government of Canada's decision to lift remaining COVID-19 restrictions, including requirements for wearing masks on aircraft, testing and quarantine, and the compulsory use of ArriveCan beginning October 1, 2022.

"Air Canada welcomes the removal of these restrictions, acknowledging that air travel is safe and that the measures were not justified by science. We believe it will greatly facilitate travel, help to continue stabilizing the country's air transport sector and support Canada's economy. Customers and crew will still have the option to wear masks and we also encourage customers to monitor their own health to be sure they feel well and fit to travel," said Craig Landry, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer at Air Canada.

"While today's announcement is a positive step, we urge the government not to lose momentum. Lessons learned during the pandemic should now be applied to streamlining the air transport system in Canada and to enact further reforms. This includes improving processes, such as security and customs at airports, developing new trusted traveller programs, deploying new technologies and, more fundamentally, re-examining the user-pay model that finances air transportation in Canada, whose weaknesses and interdependencies were exposed by COVID."

Watch: Bill Clinton Criticizes Border Situation

Former Democratic President Bill Clinton has criticized the situation unfolding at the US-Mexico border.

He says that the United States cannot sustain the number of immigrants crossing the country’s border now. He believes that this situation is unsustainable and that something must change the way things unfold at this time.

Clinton spoke with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria about the situation and stated that in years past, immigrants used to go back and forth between the United States and Mexico and that this tended to work out well for both countries. Now, he says that the situation at the border is much different and that immigrants are “gaming the system.”

B.C.'s annual winter tire rules kick in on Saturday, which means drivers could be fined if they don't have winter tires in good condition on many of the province's highways.

The rules are in place every year from Oct. 1 to March 31, while some highways will have the rules extended until April 30 due to early-spring snowfall, according to the province.

The annual requirement covers:

  • All highways in the North;
  • All highways in the Interior;
  • Sections of some highways on the South Coast, including the Sea to Sky Highway;
  • Sections of some highways on Vancouver Island, including the Malahat and Highways 4, 14 and 28.

Trucks and heavy vehicles — over 11.7 tons — travelling on those routes will also have to carry tire chains.

At 23, Jesse Glen Pinegar was already an experienced hiker and camper.

Captivated by Hawaii's scenic beauty and numerous trails, he decided to visit the island of Kauai on his own, after plans fell through with his friends. On Jan. 18, 2008, he flew from Utah to Kauai and rented an apartment on the island.

He told his family he’d return after a couple of months, but when he didn’t show up as expected in March, his dad immediately went looking for him.

Pinegar’s dad arrived on the island and found the apartment clean and well kept, with nothing out of the ordinary. He put up flyers, with the family offering a $5,000 reward. But despite his efforts, no new information emerged. He returned home empty-handed.

Webmaster addition: Claire and I hiked a portion of that trail when we lived in Hawaii. It is very beautiful, but it is also very dangerous!

Fox Business reports that “this comes after a recent ocean surge connected to Tropical Storm Kay led to high tides and waves that shifted the coastal tracks, which serve as the only viable link from San Diego to Los Angeles and the rest of the country.”

“Safety concerns to the right-of-way in San Clemente have made it necessary to suspend train service through the area,” Amtrak said in a travel advisory. “Pacific Surfliner trains will not operate between Irvine and San Diego until further notice. We are working with our partners to set up train service between Oceanside and San Diego, as well as bus connections to/from Irvine and Oceanside. We will share updates as soon as details are available.”

New research published in the journal Science Translational Medicine reveals that Big Pharma is now using insects to deliver “vaccines” to humans without their knowledge or consent.

For their trial, researchers artificially furnished 200 mosquitoes with live, malaria-causing plasmodium parasites that had been genetically modified (GMO) to inject a malaria vaccine into the arms of human test subjects.

The stated goal of the project is to deliver vaccines via bugs as opposed to traditional syringes, in this case with GMO mosquitoes that will be released into the wild to randomly inject as many people as possible with the poisons. (Related: Starting in 2020, a two-year, Bill Gates-backed project began releasing more than 750 million GMO mosquitoes throughout the Florida Keys.)

The UN special envoy for Yemen said Sunday that the ceasefire between the Houthis and the US-backed Saudi-led coalition expired on Sunday without the two sides agreeing on an extension.

The truce was extended twice before, and while there was some fighting on the ground, no Saudi airstrikes in Yemen were reported, marking the longest period of calm in the war since the US-backed coalition intervened in 2015.

The UN envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said he submitted a proposal to extend the ceasefire to the warring sides on Saturday, but a deal wasn’t reached. “The UN Special Envoy regrets that an agreement has not been reached today, as an extended and expanded truce would provide additional critical benefits to the population,” the UN said in a press release.

An emerging deal brokered by the U.S. to resolve a maritime border dispute between Israel and its neighboring state Lebanon has been panned as “dangerous” by critics, including former Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while current Israeli leader Yair Lapid has hailed the deal, as has Hezbollah terror chief Hassan Nasrallah.

Following an announcement on Saturday by Lebanese President Michel Aoun regarding U.S. proposals for the demarcation of a maritime border with Israel, Nasrallah said that Lebanon would be the ultimate decision-maker in the agreement.

A day later Lapid lauded the proposal for “safeguarding Israel’s security-diplomatic interests, as well as its economic interests.”

“Money will flow into the state’s coffers and our energy independence will be secured. This deal strengthens Israel’s security and Israel’s economy,” Lapid said.

A group of men from Mexico who tried to trek through rough Texas mountains with bundles of drugs are facing lengthy prison sentences after receiving a conviction on federal drug trafficking charges.

A federal court jury in Pecos, Texas, convicted 26-year-old Jose Manuel Ayala for drug smuggling. He is the last of a group of seven defendants caught by federal authorities trying to carry ten bundles of marijuana from Mexico into Texas, information from the U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed. The official charges are one count of importation of marijuana and one count of possession with intent to distribute. Court documents do not identify the drug cartel that the men were working for. However, the area is commonly used by the Sinaloa Cartel or the Juarez Cartel.

Ayala was the only member of a smuggling group that tried to fight the charges in court. He but ultimately lost. The group consisted of nine males and included two underage teens who were not federally charged. The other six defendants previously pleaded guilty to the charges and are expected to be sentenced in November. A date for Ayala’s sentencing hearing has not been set. He faces a prison sentence of up to 40 years for each of the two charges.

Russia attacked the Ukrainian president’s hometown with suicide drones on Sunday, and Ukraine pushed ahead with its counteroffensive after taking back control of a strategic eastern city.

Russia’s loss of Lyman, which it had been using as a transport and logistics hub, is a new blow to the Kremlin as it seeks to escalate the war by illegally annexing four regions of Ukraine.

“The Ukrainian flag is already in Lyman,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his nightly address. “Over the past week, there have been more Ukrainian flags in the Donbas. In a week there will be even more.”

In southern Ukraine, Zelensky’s hometown Krivyi Rih came under Russian attack by a suicide drone that struck a school early Sunday and destroyed two stories of it, said Valentyn Reznichenko, the governor of Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region.

A fire sparked by the drone attack has been put out, he said.

MEP Nathalie Loiseau of France is lobbying for individual sanctions on all observers of the Russian-organized referendums in the Donbass region. She has singled out journalist Vanessa Beeley not only for her coverage of the vote, but for her reporting on the foreign-back war against Syria’s government.

A French Member of European Parliament (MEP), Natalie Loiseau, has delivered a letter to EU High Representative of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Borrell, demanding the European Union place personal sanctions on all international observers of the recent votes in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and certain Russian-controlled territories in eastern Ukraine.

Obtained by The Grayzone from an EU source, the letter is currently being circulated among European parliamentarians in hopes of securing a docket of supportive signatures.

Leftist American President Joe Biden, skipping the funeral of longtime Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, signaled to Japan that “he’s more worried about the midterms than the threat of China and Russia,” Japanese conservative journalist and commentator Yoko Ishii told Breitbart News in an exchange on Friday.

Abe, one of the most influential conservative politicians in modern Japanese history and Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, was killed in a shocking public assassination during a campaign stop in July to support candidates belonging to his Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). He had stepped down from the prime ministership due to health issues in 2020, leaving a formidable leadership void that the LDP is still struggling to fill under current Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.

Much of Abe’s tenure at the helm of the government was spent building bridges with the government of America and bringing Japan closer into Washington’s sphere of influence — much to the chagrin of the Chinese communist regime, which allowed citizens to openly celebrate his murder. Abe spent his last days prominently urging the world to defend the nation of Taiwan in the face of increasingly violent threats from communist China, which falsely claims Taiwan as a “province” under the Communist Party. Abe equated China’s threats toward Taiwan to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and proclaimed in one of his final columns, “the time has come for the U.S. to make clear that it will defend Taiwan against any attempted Chinese invasion.”

During a discussion with actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas at a DNC Women’s Leadership Forum, Vice President Kamala Harris emphatically told the audience that “assault weapons” were “designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly.”

Video of the discussion was published by Now This News.

About eleven and a half minutes into the discussion, Harris reiterated that she and President Joe Biden want to reinstitute an “assault weapons” ban. She then began talking about the importance of “design purpose.”

She said, “Just to break it down … why are we looking at a particular ‘assault weapons’ ban and carving that out? Let’s just always think about almost everything that can be used has a design purpose.”

Harris continued, “What is the design purpose of an ‘assault weapon’?”

She answered her own question by saying the “design purpose” is “to kill — a lot — of human beings — quickly.”

Webmaster addition: Just like abortion on demand!

After several months of Russian “special operations” in Ukraine, it might be worth asking whether the U.S.-Russia proxy war is headed toward regime-change in Moscow, or at least efforts at regime change. For Washington, after Serbia, Iraq, Libya, Ukraine, and all the others, Russia must surely represent the ultimate, perhaps final, such operation.  In fact, since the very first days of the Bolshevik Revolution precisely one century ago, American ruling elites have savored the idea of turning the great Russian expanse into a vassal state allowing exploitation of its unparalleled natural resources.

Joe Biden, or those running his White House, is no doubt poised to take matters to more dangerous levels, seemingly indifferent to any prospects of nuclear catastrophe. After sending tens of billions of dollars worth of high-tech weapons to the Kiev regime, Biden, during his visit to Poland, would say: “For God’s sake, this man [Vladimir Putin] cannot remain in power.”

There can be little ambiguity: for years the U.S. goal has been to weaken, isolate, and eventually destroy the Putin government.  What Stalin and his successors desperately feared for decades – Western capitalist encirclement and strangulation – seems finally (and menacingly) to have arrived.

Every psychopath is well practiced at lying; anyone who tolerates that person’s lying is not only encouraging psychopathy but is, oneself, psychopathically unconcerned about the public’s welfare, because any such encouragement will, itself, facilitate the further spreading of lies and deception of the public.

This is how psychopathy, which is a merely personal disease, becomes spread and pandemic, thereby producing a dysfunctional society, widespread deception. It happens not only due to the presence of psychopaths, but also due to their passive assisters, who fail to call-out the lie and the liar and to expose them publicly so as to assist in penalizing them, instead of to assist the lies and liars, for those to spread and thrive.

Being a member of a society is to have both rights and obligations within it. Silence in the face of lies that one knows are false is a failure of such an obligation: an obligation to avoid willingly spreading a social disease — the disease of spreading those lies and that falsehood, to a rampantly and ever-increasingly contaminated public.
